Free tickets available for Railway 200’s unique exhibition train called Inspiration

Railway 200 Exhibition Train Announcement  Bookings open for ‘Inspiration’, Railway 200’s unique exhibition train. A new and unique exhibition train will visit Scotland this October as part of a national celebration of the 200th anniversary of the modern railway called Railway 200. The schedule for the train, named Inspiration, now covers 27 locations across Scotland, England and Wales to the end of the bicentenary year. The train opens to the public on 27 June at the Severn Valley Railway in Worcestershire and will criss-cross Britain for 12 months, visiting 60 locations and showcasing rail’s past, present and future. The tour for 2026 will be unveiled later this year. Free tickets to board the train are now available to book for 27 June to 17 August and registrations of interest are open here for visits from 23 August to 20 December 2025. Those who register their interest will be the first to be informed when new bookings open. Curated in partnership with the National Railway Museum, Inspiration will be the only exhibition train on the rail network and will help to attract the next generation of pioneering talent to the railway.

00:00Welcome to Railway 200, a year-long celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the

00:06modern railway. As part of this landmark year we've been working on something really exciting,

00:11a touring exhibition train that will tell the story of the past, present and future of the

00:17railways. Called Inspiration, the train will provide an unforgettable experience for visitors

00:24and two of the three carriages have been curated in partnership with the National Railway Museum.

00:30First up, there'll be a big focus on Railway First. These are the big moments in the last 200

00:36years of the railway's history. You'll journey back in time to piece together a fascinating story

00:42of progress that actually started with the ancient Greeks. You'll also be able to discover rail's

00:49influence on just about everything we take for granted, from the places we go, the jobs we do,

00:56the films we watch and even the time on the clock. The second carriage will be a wonder lab on wheels,

01:02an unmissable interactive family experience where you can test your scientific and engineering skills.

01:10In the third carriage you can learn about some of the more surprising careers there are on the railway

01:14today. Whether you're passionate about saving the planet, awesome at making videos or a gaming whiz,

01:20there'll be something there just for you. You can even test your coding skills on a train set to see

01:26if you can program the perfect journey. Or if you love wildlife you can learn how railway ecologists

01:32protect animals such as bats, badgers and butterflies along Britain's railways. The train will launch on the

01:3927th of June and over the course of the year will visit 60 destinations across Britain. Inspiration will

01:45give people of all ages a chance to have lots of fun and learn more about the railways in the bicentenary
