Works are continuing to repair a burst water main that caused sewage to spill across Perth's southern suburbs over the weekend. Several homes have been damaged, and retailers say the spill is costing them business.

00:12Yeah, it is. The sewerage smell, methane of course. Yeah, it's not very good.
00:18The odour lingering four days after a water pipe burst in spearwood.
00:23Repair works triggering a second spill in Beaconsfield.
00:27Wastewater spilling into homes and gardens.
00:29Unfortunately in Spearwood, six homes were affected with waste water.
00:33Two of those went to the interior of the properties and a further four just to the front yards there.
00:40The mop up continuing today, a custom made pipe needed to repair the damage.
00:45In terms of an ETA on that, it may be closer to tomorrow morning till we actually get that pipe installed.
00:52Businesses hoping for a return to normal.
00:55For sure, it's impacted everyone's business around here. It was blocking the roads.
00:58Thank God it's a good community and customers still come in for everyone and support us.
01:01A warning also issued for Swan River users in Alfred Cove and Applecross.
01:06Wastewater overflow putting a stop to fishing and crabbing.
01:10The cause of the incident is still to be determined.
01:13And obviously in those inner suburbs and older suburbs, that network needs ongoing care and maintenance.
01:20So occasionally you will see a situation where there's a rupture or a breakage.
01:24Water Corporation will conduct a standard review to help prevent further incidents.
