01:16Without further ado, let's get started.
01:19The United States is a country located in North America.
01:24It is the third largest country in terms of population with over 325 million people living there.
01:32The U.S. is also the fourth largest economy in the world.
01:37When it comes to marriage, customs, and traditions, each state has its own unique way of doing things.
01:45However, there are some general rules that apply to all states.
01:52For example, in order for a marriage to be legal, both parties must be at least 18 years old.
02:01They also have to exchange vows in front of an ordained minister or other religious leader.
02:08And finally, they must obtain a marriage license from their local city court.
02:15In most states, the ceremony itself does not require any witnesses, but it is recommended that at least two people attend.
02:26After the ceremony, the couple should file the marriage certificate with the local city court within 10 days.
02:33If they fail to do so, the marriage may not be recognized as valid.
02:38In some states, couples are required to have a blood test before getting married.
02:45This is done to ensure that neither party is carrying any infectious diseases such as HIV-AIDS.
02:52Some states also require that the couple wait a certain amount of time between the issuance of the license and the actual ceremony.
03:01This waiting period varies depending on the state, but it is usually between 24 hours and 72 hours.
03:11There are also waiting periods for divorces in the United States.
03:17These waiting periods allow the couple time to reconsider their decision and seek counseling if necessary.
03:24In most states, the minimum waiting period for a divorce is six months.
03:31But in some states, the waiting period can be as long as two years.
03:37Interracial marriages are becoming more common in the United States, according to the Pew Research Center.
03:4617% of newlyweds in 2015 were married to someone of a different race or ethnicity than themselves.
03:56That number has nearly doubled since 1967 when only 9% of newlyweds were interracial.
04:05The most common interracial marriages are between white men and Asian women.
04:11In fact, a study found that Asian women are the most likely racial group to marry a no-nation man,
04:19while black women are the least likely.
04:23The study also found that people who marry outside of their race or ethnicity tend to do so later in life.
04:31The median age at first marriage for interracial couples is 32.6 for men and 31 for women,
04:40compared to 27.1 for all other marriages.

06:43It is important to note that not all Americans identify with the dominant culture.
06:49Many people in the United States belong to religious minority groups such as the Amish, the Hutterites, and the Mormons.
06:57These groups often live separately from mainstream society and have different ways of life.
