Harwan (J&K), June 9, 2025 (ANI): New varieties of plant material are helping to increase the delicious cherry crop in Kashmir. Presently, in the Kashmir Valley, the cherry harvest is in full swing and growers are very busy with the harvesting of this delicious and mouth-watering fruit crop. Some specific areas are very popular for the cherry fruit crop, and Harwan is one of them, located almost twenty kilometres from Srinagar. This year, the Kashmir Valley has had a bumper cherry production, and as a result, growers are expecting good returns. Labourers, transporters, and box suppliers are getting employment. After the end of the spring season, when growers start harvesting the strawberry fruit crop, which is considered the first fruit crop of the season, all these people start coming to Srinagar to earn their livelihood. This year, the fruit quality and quantity are very good, but due to some market issues, the rates are a little low. That’s why growers are requesting the authorities to set proper rates for the benefit of the growers. The harvesting period of the cherry fruit crop started in the valley in the last week of May and will conclude around mid-June with some late varieties. Kashmir's cherry fruit crop has a good demand in Jammu and Kashmir as well as outside, which is why growers are sending the fruit to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and other states as well.
