Farage praises Winter fuel payment U-turn

Nigel Farage has praised the government's decision to reverse the winter fuel payment cut. Pensioners with an annual income of £35,000 or less will have their winter fuel payments restored this winter, it has been announced, as the government laid out details of their u-turn following weeks of speculation. Speaking in a speech delivered on Monday, the Reform UK leader said it was a "considerable step in the right direction". Report by Kennedyl. 00:00At 10 o'clock this morning, the government said there'd be a statement from them at, well, you've guessed it, midday.

00:10And they have reversed their policy, and all but those that earn £35,000 a year or more will now get their winter fuel allowance.

00:20It means that £1.8 million won't.

00:23Quite how they administer that £35,000 figure, I'm not sure.

00:28I always thought it would be easier to say no winter fuel allowance if you pay, say, £40p tax or more.

00:35But it is a considerable step in the right direction.

00:39There'll be a lot of pensioners out there very, very pleased, including constituents of mine in Clacton, who served this country in World War II and felt they were being very badly treated.
