00:00A good and eventful Monday afternoon hopefully to all. Yours truly, Denise Osorio here and this is PTV News Now.

00:11Let's begin this afternoon with Monday next week. June 16 is a date circled or penciled in a gazillion household calendars.

00:21Roughly 27 million kids nationwide are expected to trek to school campuses and classrooms next Monday

00:28when the school season officially starts. To deal with putting order on the streets leading to school campuses,

00:35the National Capital Region Police Office is expected to send out at least 5,300 police officers and personnel on Monday, June 16

00:45to ensure school kids in the megacity are safe heading to and from their homes on day one of the official 2025 school calendar.

00:55This deployment covers over 1,200 public and private schools, entailing the assignment of 8,400 police officers

01:04to man-help or assistance desks strategically placed near school campuses.

01:10In addition, the NCRPO will also be sending out some 1,100 mobile patrol units and over 1,700 foot patrol officers

01:19across five police districts and the regional mobile force battalion to establish 24-7 presence around schools

01:28and in high-volume traffic and risk-prone places.

01:32Police officials have been in close contact with school administration officials

01:36and regularly meet for updates and assessment and review in the lead-up to the big day on Monday.

01:43Clashes between the LAPD, the National Guard and Angelenos protesting the ICE raids all over L.A. County that began last Friday

01:55carried over through the rest of the weekend as National Guard ordered by President Donald Trump showed up to back up the LAPD.

02:04Yesterday, demonstrators ramped up the encounter by torching cars and scuffling with security forces

02:11in an attempt to debtor or slow down Immigration Customs Enforcement or ICE raids on households or workplaces

02:19to arrest and take into custody overstaying or undocumented aliens in America's second biggest city.

02:27Over the weekend, U.S. President Donald Trump directed the deployment of the National Guard

02:33to quell the uprising in L.A. when the ICE agents began to meet stiff resistance from Angelenos getting in the way of their raids.

02:42Earlier today, L.A. Mayor Karen Baz implored the demonstrators to police their ranks

02:47and not engage physically with law enforcement.

02:51Likewise, she ripped the President and the White House for the escalation in violence

02:56due to the deployment of U.S. troops to L.A.

03:00Even earlier in the day, the Los Angeles Police Department finally declared the scattered protests

03:06as unlawful assemblies.

03:08Los Angeles is a melting pot of various races and immigrants, many of them undocumented,

03:15who are in large part the reason for L.A.'s thriving economy that puts in its huge share of revenue

03:21to the coffers of the state of California,

03:24which last month was declared the fourth biggest on the planet.
