00:01Working on a franchise like Mission Impossible
00:03was an incredible assignment for a composer.
00:07Everything we did had to be dynamic.
00:10Every composition had to have life.
00:13We were really pushed to the limit.
00:15Tom Cruise has been very clear from the beginning,
00:17this is an adventure movie.
00:19They go to every corner of the world.
00:22The music has to take you on the journey.
00:25We wanted to use world elements
00:27that give the score a special flavor.
00:30We have huge ensembles of East African Burundi drums,
00:33and it's got a punch that is just fantastic.
00:37There is a chapter in the film that is in a submarine.
00:40We needed something that felt like bending metal,
00:42nothing that people would normally hear in their everyday life.
00:46We found the space bass, this kind of bizarre instrument.
00:50It's this universe of sounds and frequencies.
00:53It puts you in that submarine.
00:55There is no sound like it.
00:57The Mission Impossible theme is ingrained in the minds
01:02of film lovers across the world.
01:05To have that in your toolkit is unbelievably powerful.
01:10The whole time we're paying homage to the original
01:12Mission Impossible theme, keeping fresh and modern.
01:17For a composer, just to be held to that standard,
01:20it's an honor.
