00:00Police have confirmed that there is no travel ban against controversial graphic artist and
00:07activist Fahmy Reza. Inspector General of Police Tanshri Razaruddin Hussein explained that Fahmy's
00:14name had only been placed on the police's movement monitoring list for internal reference
00:19due to an ongoing investigation. In a statement on Sunday, he said the listing does not amount
00:26to a travel ban. It is part of standard monitoring procedures commonly carried out by the authorities.
00:33He further explained that confusion during the verification process at an immigration checkpoint
00:39on Saturday led to a mistaken issuance of a travel restriction. He said the situation is currently
00:46being reviewed and appropriate steps will be taken to streamline existing procedures, adding that the
00:53police remains committed to safeguarding the right to freedom of movement for all Malaysians.
00:59Razaruddin adds,
01:00The individual in question remains free to travel in and out of the country as usual,
01:05subject to regulations set by the Immigration Department and other applicable laws.
01:11The clarification came after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim directed the Deputy Inspector
01:17General of Police to review the case, following Fahmy's public statement that he was stopped
01:22by immigration officers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Saturday. Fahmy had earlier posted
01:29on social media that he was prevented from boarding a flight to Singapore, where he planned to attend
01:35a punk concert. He was informed that Bukit Aman had barred him from leaving the country and was
01:41later escorted out of the departure hall. The incident followed an earlier travel restriction
01:46imposed by Sabah authorities on May 29 when Fahmy was denied entry into the state, allegedly over
01:53a caricature criticizing the appointment of Tun Musa Aman as Sabah's young di Pertuanegri.
02:00Fahmy, who turned 47 on the day he was stopped at KLIA, also claimed that he was not given a clear
02:06reason for the travel block and was advised to seek clarification from the police.
