House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) held his weekly press briefing on Friday, where he was asked about taking advantage of the feud between Elon Musk and President Trump.
Transcript
00:00Thank you, Mr. Leader. If the aim is to kill Trump's bill, then how can Democrats right now
00:06strategically, tactically take advantage of this very public break between Donald Trump and Elon
00:14Musk? We have to keep the pressure on House Republicans and Senate Republicans to do the
00:21right thing and vote in the best interest of the people that they represent, which means voting
00:28against Trump's one big ugly bill. To the extent that Elon Musk has made the same point
00:35that everyone who has voted for this bill up until this moment should be ashamed of themselves,
00:44we agree. And to the extent that Elon Musk has made the point that the bill is a disgusting
00:53abomination, we agree. And to the extent that Elon Musk has made the observation about
01:01the GOP tax scam, that it is reckless and irresponsible to explode the deficit by more than three trillion
01:12dollars and that potentially could set our country on a path toward bankruptcy, we agree. These are
01:19arguments that Democrats have been making now for months. And it's the reason why every single
01:27House Democrat strongly opposed the GOP tax scam and why every single Senate Democrat is opposed to this
01:37one big ugly bill. Therefore, at this moment, we just need a handful of Senate Republicans to do the
01:49right thing in opposing the right thing in opposing the GOP tax scam and the reckless budget that limped
01:57barely out of the House of Representatives. We only need four. And in fact, because it is likely that the junior
02:08senator from Kentucky will remain a hard no, we only need three additional Senate Republicans.
02:18And we can kill the bill. And we can kill the bill. That's our focus right now. It's all hands on deck in that
02:26effort. And to the extent that the developments of this week will make it more likely that we can kill the GOP tax
02:37scam. That's a welcome development.
