GB News presenters Ben Leo and Nana Akua have criticised the education system for failing to teach young people about the Second World War, particularly D-Day, during a discussion marking the 81st anniversary of the historic landings.Speaking on GB News, Nana Akua said: "You see, watching that D-Day commemoration 81 years. We've been doing that every year. I asked myself, would the young people of today be prepared to fight for their country? I don't think they would."Co-host Ben Leo responded: "I think the polls show that, unfortunately, they wouldn't. I was just speaking to Sir Michael Ellis about this."I don't recall learning much about D-Day or World War II during history lessons at school, and I dread to think what it's like now. I don't think young people today are learning about D-Day."READ THE FULL STORY HERE

00:00You see, watching that D-Day commemoration, 81 years, you know, we've been doing that every year,
00:07I ask myself, would the young people of today be prepared to fight for their country?
00:12And I don't think they would.
00:14I think the polls show, unfortunately, not.
00:16But I think that's partly down. I was just speaking to Sir Michael Ellis about this.
00:20I don't recall at school, during history lessons, learning about D-Day or World War II very much.
00:27And I dread to think what it's like now. I don't think young people today would be learning about D-Day.
00:31I think that, you know, I hear my little ivory, he's only eight, talking about the Fire of London and all the historical stuff.
00:37But he hasn't really spoken about the wars or anything like that, because he does tell me everything.
00:41And I do think that I don't remember that at all. I remember the slave trade.
00:45You know, that was pretty inaccurate, you know, the way they talked about that.
00:48But I don't remember D-Day at all.
00:51No, I don't. I don't.
00:52And I think we'll catch up with Sir Michael again in just a second and go, indeed, back to France for those live pictures.
00:57But we'll ask Sir Michael about that.
00:59I think there was a campaign from certain quarters for education to sort of be revamped,
01:04gearing more towards the military history of the UK, World War II, World War I and so on.
01:08And amazing operations and tragic at the same time, such as D-Day.
01:10Yeah, there's a problem sometimes with history, though.
01:12It depends who's writing it as to what version you get.
01:15But stay with us.
