00:25Abilities Unleashed is a national program to encourage people with disabilities to adopt an active lifestyle.
00:33More than 250 students from across Darwin took part in this year's event,
00:38playing sports like wheelchair rugby, AFL, netball and indoor golf.
00:44It provides the opportunity for them to try these sports and have a go at different sports that they may not normally engage in.
00:52But it's also a great opportunity for them to engage with the public.
00:58Events like these provide an important opportunity for young people living with a disability
01:03to try different sports in a positive environment.
01:06The hope is to help boost engagement in sports and build a stronger community.
01:12Sport is such a powerful means to engage and create community.
01:17I think as Australians we have got such a strong sporting identity.
01:22And we can see that through the Matilda effect and how much of an impact that had on women in sport.
01:27And I think that's just the next step for adaptive sport in the community.
