Widespread frost on June 5, 2025 while rain hits parts of South Australia.

00:00Hello it's Angus here at the Bureau of Meteorology, this is the National Weather Forecast.

00:04We're going to focus on tomorrow which will be Thursday the 5th of June and lots of places

00:09are going to have cold frosty morning tomorrow particularly on the eastern side of the country

00:13underneath this high pressure area.

00:15Through the centre we get a band of patchy rain impacting parts of South Australia and

00:19Western Australia, not a lot of wet weather with that and even further west we get a new

00:24high pressure area moving into Perth which ends the run of wet and stormy days they've

00:28had through the first part of the week.

00:31Looking around Queensland it is going to be clear, dry and sunny almost everywhere but

00:35the main thing to notice is going to be the cold morning temperatures, in fact we could

00:39see frost through many southern areas like the Darling Downs, the Granite Belt, the Southern

00:44Ranges, even parts of the Maranoa and Warrego and for many places probably the first frost

00:48of the year.

00:50We won't see the frost end right up through here and out to the west but it will be a

00:53fairly chilly start nonetheless before that fine sunny day.

00:58Another story here, cold morning likely to be icy underfoot with widespread frost pretty

01:03much anywhere away from the very far east coast.

01:07Temperatures well and truly in the negatives around Canberra and southern parts of New

01:10South Wales.

01:11Speaking of coastal conditions, it's going to be quite windy along that coastal fringe

01:16and we could see a couple of showers as well from Newcastle up to the Northern Rivers

01:19coast but any rainfall will be brief and fairly light.

01:23Sydney tracking for a dry day with a high of 17.

01:27And once again it's the really cold morning temperatures which will get people talking

01:30here as low as minus 5 degrees in Wangaratta.

01:34We've also got some minus 3s around Aubrey-Wodonga and up in Shepperton too.

01:38Not quite as chilly in the capital with a 6 degree kickoff in Melbourne.

01:42A fine day is expected after that.

01:44The sun should come out through the middle of the day but it's likely to cloud over again

01:47heading into the evening.

01:50Down in Tasmania, once again I'm going to say it, another frosty start here.

01:54This is towards or near zero degrees in many places, dipping into the negatives in a few

01:58spots as well.

01:59It will brighten up with the sun coming out for a while but a lot of the day is going

02:03to be cloudy and certainly as we get to the evening it will be clouding over through all

02:06of these urban areas.

02:08There will be some rain moving into Western Australia.

02:11Patchy falls really, starting off in the west across the Eyre Peninsula in the afternoon and

02:15then by the evening reaching Adelaide.

02:18Probably getting to the south east overnight and into Friday morning.

02:22Unfortunately the rainfall totals are going to be fairly meagre.

02:25I think between 2 and 8 millimetres will cover most areas.

02:29One or two spots probably will see a touch more than that but I certainly wouldn't bank

02:32on it.

02:33If you're in Port Augusta or anywhere north of that, probably getting nothing at all.

02:38And across to the west we could start off with a shower here but it's a real easing trend

02:42compared to the stormy weather that we've seen so far this week.

02:45So all of those showers clearing away from the south west by about lunchtime, becoming

02:49dry and clear for the afternoon.

02:51A little bit on the cool side, there could be a bit of rain that carries on about the

02:55far south coast and parts of the northern interior.

02:58But up here in the north west, back to fine conditions.

03:02And we do see a bit of rain on the map here as well, affecting Port Hedland in the morning.

03:06Probably doesn't quite reach Broome before this band really fades away.

03:09A few spots through the northern interior as well.

03:12Across the territory, very little of that rain if any is expected to fall.

03:15It's going to be clear and sunny and we'll see those temperatures continue where they've

03:19been for the last few days.

03:21About 30 degrees in the north and just over 20 degrees in the south.

03:25So do rug up for a cold night tonight and in fact quite a chilly day tomorrow as well.
