Easing conditions in the south-east, coldfront in the west

Warmer weather approaching for much of the country as spring begins to set in, and the more extreme weather conditions move offshore.

00:00Hello from the Bureau with your National Weather Forecast for Tuesday the 3rd of September.

00:04We've now seen wind and rain easing across south-eastern parts of the country, but there

00:08is ongoing flooding for parts of Tasmania.

00:11So let's have a look at what we're expecting for Wednesday.

00:13And starting off with the synoptic map, we can see this high pressure system out in the

00:16east, that's really helped to dry things out across south-eastern parts of the country.

00:20But the next system we're keeping an eye on is this surface trough out towards the

00:24west.

00:25That will start to bring a little bit of warmth down to South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.

00:28There will be some shower activity and increasing northerly winds, but at this stage we're

00:33not expecting conditions to be as windy as compared to the last few days.

00:37Out west though, it's all about this cold front pushing through south-western parts

00:40of Western Australia.

00:41Plenty of showers for the south-west land division, and some colder air coming through

00:45behind that, with the possibility of some small hail about the south coast.

00:49Elsewhere though, showers increasing for the tropical north coast of Queensland, but otherwise

00:54looking like a clear middle of the week.

00:57Let's have a closer look at a state-by-state level now, starting off with Queensland.

01:00We can see those showers pushing onto the Cassowary Coast, including Cairns the other

01:04day in that south-easterly trade flow.

01:06In the south-east of the state though, another cool day ahead, 23 degrees in Brisbane, and

01:11a lot of that heat through western parts of the state has now started to dissipate.

01:15Down in New South Wales, there is a chance of some morning fog and frost through inland

01:18areas, but that will clear to a dry and mild to warm day, 23 degrees in Sydney, 19 degrees

01:24in Canberra after a cold start.

01:27Down in Victoria, heat will really start to ramp up with those northerly winds coming

01:30down.

01:31A warmer day in Melbourne, 20 degrees, 26 up in the Mallee, but with that trough approaching,

01:35we'll see showers approach the far south-west of the state later in the day, and strengthening

01:40northerly winds for much of Victoria.

01:42Down in Tasmania, there's still a flood warning current for many rivers, so make sure

01:47you're across the latest warning if you are in Tasmania.

01:49We'll see a couple of showers pushing onto the far south-west coast, but we're not

01:53expecting any significant falls.

01:55Warm in the south, 19 degrees in Hobart, a little bit cooler across the northern parts

01:59of Tassie.

02:00In South Australia, it's warming up there as well, especially through inland areas reaching

02:04the high 20s to even low 30s, 25 degrees in Adelaide, showers pushing in from the west

02:09later in the day, and for Adelaide, we'll see a shower or two later in the evening.

02:14In Western Australia, that cold front will race across the southwest land division, showers

02:18pushing all the way up towards Geraldton, and some cold air along the south coast including

02:22for Albany.

02:23Out towards the east, we are seeing elevated fire dangers, very strong winds and the chance

02:27of a few thunderstorms through the interior, but dry across the Pilbara.

02:31Finally, for northern Australia, we are expecting again extreme fire danger for the Darwin area.

02:36Elsewhere though, not much change to what we've seen over the past few days.
