00:06Impeachment complaint endorsers call on the Senate to proceed with Vice President
00:16Sato Duterte's trial. President Marcos keeps his cabinet largely intact but is still continuing
00:22performance evaluations. Defense Secretary Gebochidoro slams China's pretend journalist
00:28at a regional defense forum. Ukraine-Russia peace talks in Istanbul ended after barely
00:33an hour. And Pag-Asa declares the start of this year's rainy season.
00:40Vice President Sato Duterte's impeachment complaint endorsers call on the Senate and
00:45Senate President Chief Escudero to proceed with her trial. This after Escudero moved the reading
00:51of the Articles of Impeachment from June 2 to June 11, citing the need to tackle priority measures
00:56before Congress adjourned sine die. Five out of the six lawmakers who first endorsed impeachment
01:02complaints against Duterte in December asked, what is stopping the Senate from proceeding with
01:06Duterte's trial? With the Senate resuming session on Monday, June 2, the question of the impeachment
01:12trial's extension from the 19th to the 20th Congress intensifies. Senate Majority Leader
01:17Francis Tolentino asserts the Senate should no longer proceed with the trial due to constitutional
01:22limits. Only 12 senators remain after each election, insufficient to form a quorum. Thus,
01:31we cannot carry unfinished proceedings into the next Congress. Meantime, Opposition Senator
01:38Risa Ontiveros and Senate Minority Leader Coco Pimentel say the Constitution does not prohibit
01:43impeachment crossover to the next Congress. The 20th Congress will open on July 28. It can decide
01:51whether or not to convene as an impeachment court and proceed with the trial by simply adopting the
01:55rules of the previous Congress. President Ferdinand Marcus Jr. keeps his cabinet largely intact.
02:04This despite his ongoing cabinet revamp. Executive Secretary Lucas Berzamin announced on Tuesday,
02:10June 3, that the following courtesy resignations were declined by the President.
02:14Berzamin said the President accepted the resignations of Presidential Commission for the Urban Court
02:24Chairman Maynard Sabile and Presidential Assistant for Visayas Terence Calatrava, while Presidential
02:30Advisor on Muslim Affairs Almarim Tilia was, quote, terminated. Tilia had earlier urged the President to
02:36sack Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr. Berzamin also announced Francis
02:42Edrelin Lim's appointment as the Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman, replacing Emilio Aquino,
02:47whose term will expire on June 5. Berzamin adds this is not the end of the President's cabinet revamp,
02:54as there will be a continuing performance evaluation. The fates of National Security Advisor Eduardo Año
03:00and Presidential Communications Office Secretary Jay Ruiz have yet to be announced.
03:04Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Chiodoro Jr. slams what he called pretend journalists at Asia's
03:13premier defense dialogue. This on the same day he criticized Chinese military officials at a panel
03:19for asking, quote, propaganda spiels disguised as questions. Teodoro once again strongly criticized
03:26China for spreading disinformation and being hypocritical on issues related to Chinese aggression
03:31in the South China Sea, including the West Philippine Sea. Teodoro led the Philippine
03:36delegation to the Regional Defense Forum and began by criticizing China for not sending an official
03:41delegation. Beijing's top defense official Dong Zhuan skipped the dialogue and instead,
03:47China sent representatives from the People's Liberation Army's National Defense University.
03:52In a post on the Armed Forces of the Philippines page on Saturday, May 31, Teodoro also called out
03:57Chinese Nationals who tried to interview him and AFP Chief General Romeo Bronner Jr.
04:03A video from China Daily's program, Media Unlocked, showed a host trying to chase down
04:07and runner for a quick interview.
04:09Kahapon hinarang ako at yun niya, pinipilit tayong tanungin. Pero dahil nagmamadali kami,
04:15papunta kami dun sa isang meeting natin, bilateral meeting. Hindi ko sinagot. But then later on,
04:22naglabas sila sa WeChat, binaliktan nila yung story na umiiwas daw tayo sa mga tanong nila
04:30about the West Philippine Sea.
04:32Teodoro meanwhile said,
04:56Turkish officials say the second round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine
05:03ended barely an hour after they started in Istanbul on Monday, June 2.
05:07This a day after a massive Ukrainian drone attack on Russia's nuclear-capable strategic bombers.
05:13The talks, the second time both sides have met directly since 2022, started almost two hours late.
05:20Turkish Foreign Minister Haqqan Fidan said the aim of the meeting was to look at the chances for a
05:24ceasefire, talk about a possible meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents,
05:28and explore more prisoner exchange options. Later, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy,
05:34speaking from Lithuania, said both sides were working on a new prisoner exchange.
05:39His chief of staff added that Ukraine gave Russia a list of deported children that it wants returned.
05:44No other details about the talks were shared.
05:47The two sides were also expected to discuss their very different ideas of a ceasefire and a long-term
05:52peace deal. This amid pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump that the U.S. might stop helping
05:58with the talks if there is no progress.
06:03State Weather Agency Pag Asa declares the start of the rainy season on Monday, June 2.
06:08This three days after announcing that the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, is already affecting some parts
06:14of the country. To declare the start of the rainy season, at least seven out of 13 stations across
06:19western Luzon and the Visayas must record 25 millimeters of rain in five days, with at least
06:24one millimeter for three consecutive days. The rainy season usually begins from late May or early June,
06:30and lasts until November. For June to November, Pag Asa expects 11 to 19 tropical cyclones to enter or
06:37form within the Philippine Area of Responsibility. There have been no tropical cyclones in 2025 so far.
06:44Pag Asa announced the onset of the Southwest Monsoon on Friday, May 30.
