03 June - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Hello again. There's definitely a fresher feel to things out there at the moment, and there will be some showery rain for most of us, too.
00:08The change in our weather, well, it's all due to this front, which marched its way across the country through the last 24 hours or so.
00:15Yes, it brought some heavy rain for many, but also behind it, some fresher air, which is why things are feeling a little bit cooler than they have done of late.
00:24Now, that front is still lingering across parts of the southeast as we go through this afternoon, so a bit more cloud here, some outbreaks of rain as well.
00:33But elsewhere towards the northwest of the country, frequent blustery showers, some strong winds, we're talking coastal gales perhaps towards the north and west, and some of those showers could be pretty heavy.
00:44There will be some sunny spells in between the showers and actually across parts of the Midlands.
00:49Once the rain from earlier on clears away, it's likely to stay pretty dry through the afternoon, and this is where we're going to have the highest temperatures during the afternoon as well.
00:57We're looking at temperatures peaking in the low 20s here.
01:00Elsewhere, low to mid-teens for many places and feeling markedly fresher when you factor in those strong blustery winds towards the north and west in particular.
01:10Later on, as we go through the evening, that front does eventually clear from the southeast, and things actually warming up for a little bit of time across parts of the southeast.
01:17But then overnight, many of the showers will ease across England and Wales, a few continuing across western parts, but generally turning dry here with some clear skies.
01:27Across Scotland and Northern Ireland, though, the showers continuing, and it's still going to be pretty blustery here, and those showers perhaps even merging into some longer spells of rain for a few places as well.
01:39But because of the fresher air and those clear skies, temperatures dropping a bit lower than they have done through some recent nights, so feeling a little bit colder for some of us, especially across northern parts.
01:50And all the time, we do have those blustery winds that we need to watch out for as well.
01:54Then through Wednesday, a showery start across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and those showers could be pretty heavy at times, and still some blustery winds, although the wind's starting to ease a little bit compared to today.
02:06Across England and Wales, there will be some showers around.
02:09They won't be quite as intense as further north, but they're going to become a bit more widespread as we go through into the afternoon, albeit across some parts of the Midlands, eastern England, a greater chance of avoiding those showers.
02:21So some places here could actually stay dry through much of the day, and there will be some sunny breaks around.
02:26It's worth bearing in mind, although we do have that fresher air across us, so temperatures not as high as they have been recently, the sun's got some decent strength.
02:34So if you're in the shelter from the breeze, and if you do catch any sunny spells, it's not going to feel too bad, even though temperatures are peaking from, well, the low-to-mid teens in the north to mid-to-high teens, possibly low-20s further south.
02:47Then, as we go through later Wednesday into Thursday, there's more showery rain to come.
02:52In fact, we could have some heavier rain affecting southern parts for a time through both Thursday and perhaps Friday, but generally the theme through much of the rest of the week is the continuation of something a bit cooler, a bit breezy at times.
03:05And yes, most of us will see a bit of rain at times as well, whether that's in the form of showers, so some short bursts or something a little bit longer lasting.
03:12Well, that depends on how far north or south you are. Now, for a more in-depth look at what we can expect through this week's weather, well, why don't you check out the deep dive, which Honor will be bringing to you later on.
03:23I'll see you again soon. Bye-bye.
