10:13They live on the other side of the village.
10:15A bit rough and ready, but they're decent kids, basically.
10:19Do we have any Coke?
10:20Decent kids. They're a bunch of thugs.
10:22Oh, I'm sorry, darling. I know. I'm sorry.
10:29Have you seen this?
10:31Oh, gross.
10:33Well, they didn't actually do it. I fell.
10:39You were attacked. Just look at you. Honestly, what's your mother going to say about this?
10:43Where did it happen?
10:44In the woods, down by the old quarry.
10:48You didn't go to the quarry. Robert, he could have been killed.
10:50I didn't mean to. They were chasing me.
10:53Even so, it is very dangerous down there.
10:55Why?
10:56Why is it very dangerous?
10:58Oh, Barney, don't be ridiculous.
10:59We've been trying to have that place made safe for years, and you are not to go there.
11:04The thing is, you just have to be careful, that's all.
11:07It's all a question of common sense.
11:09Isn't that right, Barney?
11:27You're late.
11:28Hi, darling. Nightmare traffic. Did I miss lunch?
11:31Er, no. We were going to make some pizzas, but Barney got beaten up by some village kids.
11:36What?
11:38Don't worry, he's not dead or anything.
11:41Sachi. Can I see?
11:43Yes, go on. But don't show Gran.
11:46Cost an arm and a leg.
11:58Welcome to Dr. Bone's website.
12:10Steganopithecus.
12:22You have asked about Steganopithecus.
12:25Good choice.
12:26Want to know more?
12:27Smarter than his Neanderthal cousins, this hunter-gatherer lived in the caves of Northern Europe between 150 and 200,000 years ago, and we call him Steganopithecus.
12:45Steganopithecus.
12:51Want to know more?
12:54Look at this.
12:56Stupid.
12:57It's Versace.
12:59She. It's brilliant.
13:01I wasn't talking about the dress.
13:04You don't know anything.
13:06So leave me alone.
13:10Barney, what's the time?
13:14Where is it?
13:16Er, I left it in the bathroom.
13:17No, you didn't.
13:19You didn't have it on earlier, either. I saw.
13:23So?
13:24You haven't lost it, have you?
13:26No.
13:26Lou, take it off.
13:29Everything okay, Barney?
13:31Yeah, fine, thanks.
13:33You know I'll find out.
13:34Now, Lou!
13:35I always do.
13:36Mmm, junk food. Just what I needed.
13:50Apart from the tomato sauce, those ingredients were actually all fresh.
13:54Vigorous speech, Mum. It's not a criticism.
13:57Right, I must get packed.
13:58No, I thought you were going to...
14:00Oh, yes, Barney.
14:02What's all this about fighting the locals and getting chucked down the quarry?
14:05Um, I'll do these later.
14:08I've got something to finish in the garden.
14:10Me too.
14:14Well?
14:15I wasn't fighting. I was running away.
14:18He was down by the quarry, that's the point.
14:20Who were you running away from?
14:21The Snargets.
14:22Ah, the Snargets.
14:25Well, I used to run away from the Snargets.
14:27We all did. It's traditional round here.
14:29Caro, you're not to go near the quarry.
14:33Generations of children in this village have been told not to go near the quarry.
14:38But seriously, it is incredibly dangerous.
14:42And I don't want you to do it.
14:44Do you understand?
14:47Tell me you understand, Barney.
14:50I understand, Mum.
14:52Can I get down now?
14:53Yeah, go on.
15:02Well, I know you think I'm fussing.
15:05But if they're going to stay with me on their own for two weeks, you've got to back me up.
15:09I did. I told him.
15:11Now, is it all right if I go and finish my packing?
15:13I'm meeting Stephen at five.
15:15You don't want to keep Stephen waiting.
15:18Look, Mums.
15:20I've got a chance to make this work.
15:23And I'm going to take it.
15:26We agreed.
15:27You agreed?
15:29And what if David calls while you're away?
15:31You let him speak to them. He's their father.
15:33And if he asks for you?
15:35I won't be here.
15:36What do I tell him?
15:37It doesn't matter what you tell him.
15:43Look, Mums.
15:45It's over.
15:47The kids understand.
15:49Do they?
15:50You don't think Barney misses his father?
15:53Of course he does.
15:55They both do, but we've moved on.
15:59We have closure, as they say.
16:02Is that what they say?
16:03Well, that's what they're right for all our sakes.
16:07It's late.
16:11I have to go.
16:28Barney?
16:29Lou?
16:30Mum's going.
16:33You'll be good.
16:35I'll send you a postcard.
16:36Will you bring us something?
16:38Oh, I should think so.
16:39What?
16:40I don't know.
16:41We'll see.
16:41Other than last time.
16:43I said we'll see.
16:46Where's Barney?
16:49Barney?
16:51Upstairs.
16:53Barney!
16:53Barney!
16:54I'm going!
16:55He's up there.
16:57Just hiding.
17:00Well, it doesn't matter.
17:02It's okay.
17:03You give him a big hug for me.
17:05I'll see you looking at me.
17:06She's...
17:07You're...
17:08Bye, Dad.
17:12Bye.
17:12Bye.
17:13Bye.
17:13Bye.
17:13Bye.
17:14Bye.
17:14Bye.
17:15Bye.
17:16Bye.
17:17Bye.
17:18Bye.
17:19Bye.
17:20Bye.
17:21Bye.
17:22Bye.
17:23Bye.
17:23Bye.
17:38Mum's gone.
17:40She told me I had to give you a big hug.
17:45I'm going to ask for something better than the watches this time.
17:48Which reminds me.
17:51I swapped it.
17:52Who with?
17:54Someone.
17:55Well, what'd you get for it?
18:03It's a stone.
18:06You swapped the watch Mum gave you for a stone.
18:09It's not a stone, it's a knife, made out of stone.
18:12Flint, actually.
18:13Duh, it's a stone, Barney.
18:16Well, you just better get it back, that's all.
18:18Who did you swap it with?
18:20Someone you wouldn't know, a friend.
18:22You haven't got any friends?
18:23I have.
18:26What is that?
18:28It's a Stiganopithecus.
18:30What?
18:31He lives in the quarry.
18:32And when I fell down, I fell through his roof.
18:35That's your friend?
18:36Yeah.
18:37I gave him my watch and he gave me his knife.
18:40And then when I had to go, he showed me the way home.
18:42You are a sad and tragic little person.
18:46He's thousands of years old, Lou.
18:48He could be the missing link.
18:49No, Barney, you are the missing link.
18:51Goodbye.
18:53Just wait till Gran hears about this.
18:55Here.
19:16Got this, it's a knife.
19:22There's a can opener on it.
19:29And I think we're getting stones out of horses' hooves.
19:33But you could use that for anything.
19:36Ah!
19:37Ah!
19:38Ah!
19:38Ah!
19:38Ah!
19:39Ah!

19:42Ah!
19:43Ah!
19:44Ah!
19:45Ah!
19:46Seeing how a watch isn't much use to you, I was wondering if you could have that instead.
19:55See, it was a present for my mum, so if you don't mind...
20:01...and turn it.
20:08Yeah, I'm sure it's lovely.
20:13You've already eaten some.
20:16Morsha!
20:17You've already eaten some.
20:19Mmm.
20:20Good.

21:19Like that, OK?
21:26See?
21:32Now you try.
21:36It's right?
21:49Steganopithecus.
21:53I found you on a website.
21:57You're 150,000 years old.
22:01Maybe more.
22:02Steganopithecus.
22:09Stig.
22:11Stig...
22:12...anopithecus.
22:15Stig.
22:17Stig.
22:19Stig.
22:21Stig.
22:26Er, listen, we really need to talk about the watch.
22:29I mean, you know what mothers are like.
22:31We'll go on and on, and if I've lost my...
22:33...
22:38Wow.
22:53Wow, cool!
22:54Oh, let me try this here.
23:15Mocha.
23:17Mocha.
23:24Um, look, that's really, really good. Look. Look, Stig.
23:31I could help you finish this.
23:36You do the bottles.
23:39And I'll do the mud.
23:55Stig?
23:57Have you got a mother?
24:01You must have a mother.
24:05Maybe you can't remember if it was thousands of years ago.
24:09My mother's all right, I suppose.
24:12Agha.
24:13Hmm?
24:16Agha, that's it.
24:18Agha!
24:20Agha!
24:21Where are you going?
24:22Agha.
24:24Agha.
24:34Agha, stay.
24:46Agha!
24:52Stig!
24:54Agha, stay!
25:24You know, you've got a lot of good stuff here, you know, Steve.
25:40Maybe we can mend the hole in your roof.
25:45Or make you a better bed.
25:54Here, try it together.
26:04Is that the time?
26:06Oh, no, I'm late.
26:08It's tea time.
26:09Moss and eat.
26:09Moss and eat time.
26:16See you tomorrow.
26:22Carrots and apples.
26:24And my old knife.
26:25And the matches.
26:27What did you want them all for?
26:28And why didn't you ask?
26:33Look, Barney, the things themselves aren't so important.
26:36It's the fact that you just took them.
26:40And what's all this about Stig?
26:43Who is Stig, Barney?
26:48He's my friend.
26:49He's my friend.
26:50Shut up.
26:51Thank you, Lou.
26:53Your friend.
26:54He's a Stig and Opithecus.
26:59And he wears an old carpet.
27:01And he lives in a cave.
27:03And he's my friend.
27:03Old sort of friend, old chap.
27:10Oh, don't worry.
27:10It's on the computer.
27:13He's been playing cavemen.
27:14Oh, so Stig's not real.
27:16He's just a pretend friend.
27:17No, he's real.
27:18He's so sad.
27:20He used to have one called Carl, who lived under the stairs and ate Marmite soldiers.
27:23That was when I was six.
27:25Yeah.
27:26And how old are you now?
27:27Oh, well, Barney.
27:28I want you to promise me, if ever you see something and you want to give it to Stig,
27:36Oh, will you ask me or Grandpa first?
27:42Is that a promise, old chap?
27:44Yes.
27:46Can I get down now?
27:47I thought you might help me clean out the pond.
