Despite the win, the chess champion calls it a "normal day" and humbly admits his moves weren’t extraordinary. Carlsen also praises Gukesh’s performance: "He played really well — it just wasn’t my day, but he was good."

00:00It was alright. Not a very memorable day but the Armageddon game was so right and I at least managed to get something out of the day.
00:12Any comment on yesterday game about Gukes, how Gukes played well? Do you want to say anything on that?
00:18I think, like I remember being that age myself and sometimes kind of your energy, like fighting qualities and just optimism is sometimes, you know, bigger than the quality of your moves.
00:39So I think for a long time he was just more or less blindly pushing and then, yeah, on a normal day of course I win that game and things look quite differently.
00:54But what he does well, as I alluded to, is he really fights very, very well and he was there to take his chance and he deserves credit for that.
01:06But that's the kind of, you know, chance that I really, really have to put away otherwise I have no chance.
