00:00Iran is seeking Washington's guarantee to ease sanctions as both sides continue negotiations
00:05to resolve their decades-long dispute over Tehran's nuclear program.
00:10This follows confirmation from the US that it has sent a proposal for a potential nuclear deal
00:16amid ongoing attempts to break the deadlock in talks.
00:21Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bakayi said the US has yet to clarify on the issue of sanctions.
00:27His remarks came a day after the UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA,
00:35reported that Iran now possesses over 400 kilograms of uranium and reached to 60% purity,
00:42close to the 90% purity level required for weapons-grade uranium.
00:46Iran has rejected the report, calling it politically motivated
00:50and warning it would retaliate if any Western powers threatened to reimpose sanctions.
00:55The US and Iran wrapped up a fifth round of talks in Rome last month, with some signs of progress.
01:02But major gaps remain, especially over Iran's uranium enrichment.
01:06Tehran has repeatedly denied accusations that it is seeking nuclear weapons,
01:11insisting that it will continue enriching uranium with or without an agreement with the US.
01:16The Trump administration deemed the nuclear deal proposal it sent to Iran as acceptable,
01:21but has earlier made it clear it will firmly oppose any expansion of uranium enrichment.
