00:00Manipur has been grappling with conflict and blockades for nearly two years, severely
00:11disrupting daily life. As a landlocked state, it relies heavily on NH2 and NH37. Its lifelines
00:23connecting Imphal to Nagaland and Assam for essential goods, fuel, medicine and access
00:30to health care, education and jobs. Since the violence began, movement between the
00:38valley and hill districts has been severely restricted, worsening the crisis.
00:45These are the two lifelines of the state and the progress of the state and the development
00:54of the state solely depend on the highways because transportation is a big issue, is a big catalyst
01:06for development of a state or any society. So, since 2023, May 3, both the highways
01:16have been blocked, you know, because of the crisis that sparked on that day itself.
01:24Residents say both communities are now confined to designated zones, with limited freedom of
01:30movement outside their respective areas.
01:35We are very difficult. We are not able to reach that way. We are not able to reach that way.
01:42We need to go out to work for a job. Then we need to go to the flight.
01:49The middle class families who don't do the effort now is to do the effort.
01:52I want to support the government. So, by the time, the FMR will be blocked.
01:58Efforts were made following the Union Home Minister's directive to restore free movement, but protests
02:05and blockades have repeatedly thwarted those attempts. While Manipur has seen relative peace
02:11since the governor's rule began, tensions continue to simmer just below the surface.
02:20When there is economic blockade on the national highway, there is shortage of essential commodities.
02:26Sometimes security guarded the vehicles, good laden trucks, then they arrive at Impal.
02:32But sometimes these supplies did not come in time, so people are suffering.
02:39New Zuveng village in Churachandpur district witnessed a rabies outbreak in April this year
02:45and suffered greatly due to delayed medical aid.
02:49The delays were primarily caused by movement restrictions arising from ethnic tensions.
02:58At least three lives were lost and over 700 dog bite cases were reported in the area.
03:05As a result, the district was declared a containment zone under the Epidemic Diseases Act of 1897.
03:14The ongoing conflict and movement restrictions in Manipur have not only hindered daily life,
03:35but also critically delayed urgent medical aid during emergencies like the rabies outbreak,
03:42highlighting the urgent need for restored free movement and sustained peace.
