02:00Sports Illustrated presents...
02:30Be very afraid.
02:33For what lurks is the high-tech wave of the future known as Michael Jordan.
02:43Both need to string some hoops together.
02:45Jordan all the way to the hole.
02:47Oh!
02:48Oh-oh!
02:49Is he of this earth?
02:53Jordan to the baseline.
03:00Oh-oh!
03:01Wow!
03:02Is he man or machine?
03:06But make no mistake.
03:11He is no apparition.
03:15He is a devastating force that must always be reckoned with.
03:22I just know, you know, anytime Chicago comes in town, you have to leave your family and
03:27everybody else home.
03:28You don't want to be embarrassed.
03:30Jordan gets in.
03:31Yeah!
03:32I remember an alley-oop went up in the air on the fast break, and I just knew I was going
03:38to get the ball.
03:39And all of a sudden, Jordan went up about 10 or 12 more notches than I did.
03:47It's something that I'll never forget, but definitely a joy to watch.
03:50When you're playing against them, I'm not ashamed to say you stand there in awe.
03:57Oh!
03:58Oh!
03:59Oh!
04:00Oh!
04:01Oh!
04:02Oh!
04:03Oh!
04:04Oh!
04:05Oh!
04:06Oh!
04:07Oh!
04:08Oh!
04:09Oh!
04:10Oh!
04:11Oh!
04:12Oh!
04:13Oh!
04:14Oh!
04:15Oh!
04:16Oh!
04:17Oh!
04:18Oh!
04:19Oh!
04:20You'll find yourself watching some time because, you know, he's gonna do something that you
04:28might not see again.
04:29How does he do that? How does he do that? How does he know?
04:33Michael Jordan is one in a million players. They don't come along very often.
04:45Michael on the drive against Harper. Down the lane for the dunk.
04:51Does Jordan? Jordan sets for the three. Can't do it. Goes into the lane to the basket with a right-hand slam.
04:59A young man.
05:21With dreams of greatness on the baseball diamond.
05:24Possessing the burning desire that could get him there.
05:33These are visions of what might have been.
05:39But reality has never looked so good.
05:42Yesterday's Little League hero has become today's most captivating athlete.
05:57His elegance on the court has transformed the game into an art form.
06:02A relentless competitor who fears no one.
06:17He overwhelms the opposition.
06:22Patrolling the airways with a reckless abandon.
06:25He is an unyielding defender with uncanny instincts.
06:33Thriving in adversity, he will always find a way.
06:37And while strength is usually found in numbers, his comes from within.
06:52I'll tell you a story that I think sums the whole thing up.
06:56We was playing in Chicago in Salt Lake.
06:58They switched and put John Stockton on him.
07:00And he turned around and dunked on Stockton.
07:02So some guy got up and almost followed him down the sidelines.
07:05He said, hey, Jordan, pick on somebody your own size.
07:08Next time down the floor, he dunked on Mel Turpin.
07:11And went over and looked at the guy and said, was he big enough?
07:16His astounding ability seems boundless.
07:20This is the greatest player in our time today.
07:22And if you can defense Jordan this, you can defense anything in the league, anything in the world, it seems like.
07:30Possessed of unearthly talent, he is a natural wonder to behold.
07:37And in his quest for perfection, he takes the game to new heights.
07:41God has given him, blessed him with unusual talent.
07:44I mean, because he is an unusual basketball player.
07:47The things he can do offensively, I mean, it's just, it's phenomenal.
07:50He's a show, he puts on a show.
07:51And I enjoy watching him.
07:53Jordan to the frontcourt, get on the other way.
07:56You're done!
07:57Oh, what a dunk, my boy!
07:58It's Neil Ellis off to the right.
08:00Jordan on the drive, falls down on an eagle.
08:02Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh!
08:03Bruce McDaniel had it stolen by Jordan.
08:05Michael's got it right before this game is over.
08:07The lead pass to Michael Jordan, this spells trouble.
08:10Oh, ho, ho!
08:12Jordan, who has it on the break, driving all the way in.
08:15Oh, he's got an unbelievable ball!
08:17He put it in and it goes!
08:19But greatness sometimes springs from humble beginnings.
08:23As a 5'9 1⁄2 inch sophomore, young Michael was noticeably absent from the varsity squad.
08:30Yes, I'm the coach who cut Michael as a sophomore.
08:33We did it because we thought at the time it was the best thing for him and for our basketball program.
08:39So my friend and I, Leroy Smith, who was about 6'6", 6'7 at the time, and I was maybe 5'9 1⁄2, we said we were going to try out for the varsity team just to see what happens.
08:49And because of Leroy's height, I got the short end of the stick, I felt, and he made the varsity and I got cut.
08:56I was big, okay?
08:59And when you're 6'8", you play basketball because you're tall.
09:02So it wasn't because I was talented, I was just 6'8".
09:05You know, 6'8", everybody said, hey, you've got to play basketball for us.
09:07And if I look at it, you know, he should have played varsity because he was a talent in the 10th grade.
09:12Determined to prove his coach wrong, Michael worked harder than ever, growing 5 1⁄2 inches and improving dramatically over the next two years.
09:21He would shatter all of Laney's scoring records while leading the Buccaneers to their first ever conference championship.
09:28The high school All-American chose the University of North Carolina, and academic advice was soon to follow.
09:36And I told him to go into math.
09:39That's where the money was.
09:40Which I think is hilarious.
09:44He probably does, too.
09:47Concerned about Michael's future employment, Laney's principal wanted him to attend.
09:51Air Force Academy is always a very excellent educational choice, and certainly a commitment to the armed forces would have given him employment after college.
10:03This one-man squadron would eventually form his own Air Force, Air Jordan.
10:10Chapel Hill, home of the University of North Carolina, a school rich in basketball tradition.
10:17Initially, skepticism arose as to whether Michael could excel at the college level.
10:23Coming up in high school, I wasn't that known as a basketball player.
10:27I wasn't that known until I came to North Carolina, and no one in Wilmington thought I could really step in and play a lot of time.
10:34I mean, everyone felt that I was going to go to North Carolina and sit on the bench for four years and then come back home and work at a local gas station or something.
10:41But no one anticipated that fame would come so quickly.
10:46The tie.
10:4718.
10:48Shot.
10:49Jordan.
10:50Michael Jordan.
10:51In the 1982 championship game versus Georgetown, the freshman had delivered to Coach Smith his first national title.
10:58And a star was born.
11:00And a lot of people didn't know I existed until I got here.
11:03So when I hit that shot, I felt like I was different.
11:06You know, I won a national championship.
11:08I think the people started to recognize my talents more, and I started to get more publicity in that sense.
11:14So I think that shot really put me on the map, if you want to say.
11:18Michael's winning basket propelled him into the national spotlight.
11:22And a new aura of confidence was apparent to all.
11:24What Michael really did was improve considerably between his freshman and sophomore year.
11:31He grew a couple inches.
11:32He matured physically and just became a sensational player.
11:37He was very inconsistent as a freshman, but he's one of the most competitive ones we've ever had in our drills.
11:43He wanted to get better, and then he had the ability to get better.
11:47There's a steal by Nority.
11:49Here comes Michael Jordan.
11:50I guess that is a pretty fitting end to the ballgame.
11:59Jordan, look at that!
12:02Kenny Smith looking for Jordan.
12:04Beautiful, beautiful, absolutely beautiful!
12:08For his compelling play, the collegiate sophomore was honored as the best college player in the land,
12:14receiving the coveted Naismith Trophy.
12:17But while Jordan took his game to new levels, some were slower than others to appreciate it.
12:23Loose ball, nice and it is back-to-back!
12:27Michael just had a tremendous quick fake, and he would put the ball down before the pivot foot left the floor,
12:34and it just looked strange, and the referee would call it walking.
12:37So at least he wouldn't be called for traveling in the ACC.
12:42And of course, in the pros, they never call traveling on anyone.
12:44Michael's recognition would soon catch up with his ability.
12:50Matt Doherty from about 14. Rebound!
12:52As he would dominate all competition.
12:54And go on to lead the ACC and score.
12:59But after being named the top collegiate in the nation for the second consecutive season,
13:04he made the difficult decision to walk away from Chapel Hill and forego his senior year.
13:09Well, to tell you the truth, I really just decided, I guess, an hour and a half ago.
13:15I didn't know I was, you know, 50-50.
13:17And I talked to Coach this morning, and, you know, he helped me, and my parents helped me.
13:23And everything looks bright for me.
13:26And, you know, I think the future holds, hopefully, the best for me.
13:31You know, I just, you know, I felt that it would be better for me to start now, while I'm young.
13:38Although Michael left school early, he would fulfill his graduate requirements the following year.
13:44More immediately, he was about to become the cornerstone of a rebuilding Chicago franchise.
13:49The Chicago Bulls picked Michael Jordan from the University of North Carolina.
13:57In preparation for the Los Angeles Olympics,
14:01Jordan led Team USA to a 9-0 record in a series of exhibitions against NBA talent.
14:07Here's the break, Jordan, back it.
14:12Named team co-captain by Bobby Knight,
14:15Michael made it clear he would have no problems with the fiery coach.
14:19And he wants the best for his players, and, you know, really, that's somewhat similar to Coach Smith,
14:24except for the language, but, you know, I can get up with that.
14:32When the moment arrived, Michael was all business.
14:39The 23rd Olympiad would provide the forum.
14:49The glory of a gold medal was paramount.
14:53And playing against the rest of the basketball world,
14:56Michael would tower above the competition.
14:59The United States had a team deep in talent.
15:02But Jordan would emerge as the undisputable driving force.
15:07With Michael leading the team in scoring,
15:09the Olympic squad rounded the opposition by an average margin of 33 points,
15:14en route to a stellar 8-0 record.
15:17The gold medal game versus Spain was no different.
15:21Spearheading the blowout was the skinny kid from Wilmington,
15:24whose Olympic brilliance will always be remembered.
15:26That was a special moment for me because I guess I can go back to his childhood days,
15:40and he always said to me,
15:42one day I'll be an Olympian, and I said, yeah, sure.
15:45And then to win the gold medal, I mean, it was so thrilling.
15:52It was one of my special moments, and I always remember.
15:55When he put it around my neck, that was a special bond that I guess
16:00would be with me in memories that no one would take away from him.
16:05It was in this house in Wilmington, North Carolina,
16:08where Michael's parents taught him the values of hard work
16:11and how to set goals to achieve his dreams.
16:15But it was his daily battles in the backyard
16:17with his older brother Larry that fueled his competitive drive.
16:20...again Sanders, ahead to Paxson.
16:23Pax with a lap for Jordan.
16:24Woo-hoo!
16:26It goes Michael Jordan on the drive, five seconds.
16:29Jordan on the drive, right in the lane, 18-footer.
16:32Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
16:35We used to play an awful lot, you know.
16:37We would play every day.
16:38And I always normally beat him.
16:42The thing that always drove Michael crazy
16:45was that Larry was beat up on him so much.
16:48And I think that he really got competitive, playing his own brother.
16:52He really helped me create some determination in myself to beat him.
16:57If I could beat him, I thought I could beat anybody.
17:00And finally, when I started to grow
17:02and my skills started to catch up with my height,
17:05I started to beat him convincingly.
17:08These days, Jordan stands at six-foot-six.
17:11And brother Larry and the entire NBA find him difficult to contain.
17:17But Jordan's height remains a phenomenon open to all sorts of interpretation.
17:21I've thought about that often, and I've come to one conclusion.
17:28Occasionally, you'll meet people that you look at
17:30and you just know that they were born to do one thing.
17:34And God looked at Michael and knew that this kid would starve if he had to work.
17:38So he says, I better make an athlete out of it.
17:41So is it true Mr. Jordan would find Michael hanging from his chin-up bar,
17:45stretching himself in an attempt to grow taller?
17:49I'd try to do that.
17:50I always wanted to be seven feet.
17:52And I'd never forget that tall.
17:54I tried it a few times.
17:55I saw it on TV a few times on the Brady Bunch or something like that,
17:59that I saw that, and I tried to do it.
18:02And it didn't...
18:03I don't think it worked, but I'm tall, so it may have.
18:07And your dad's reaction when he found out?
18:09He thought I was nuts.
18:11And that's exactly what he drove NBA defenses.
18:15Oh!
18:16No.
18:17By Sparrow.
18:18Lazy.
18:18Look out.
18:20He freaks it up.
18:22Fifty seconds remaining.
18:23George with a seam.
18:24What a jam!
18:27Often unbelievable in running the floor.
18:29Here's George down the middle.
18:30All the way!
18:31He was virtually unstoppable in the air.
18:39Air Jordan had landed,
18:41and the NBA would never be the same.
18:44Quickly becoming Chicago's leader,
18:47he sparked the Bulls with his contagious intensity.
18:50Oh, Michael Jordan with the move of the night.
18:54He was an impact player who boldly commanded attention
18:57and quickly achieved legendary status.
19:00They have outscored the Bucs, nine to nothing here.
19:03Oh!
19:03Oh!
19:04Oh!
19:05Here comes Mr. Jordan is right.
19:08Everyone wanted to catch a glimpse
19:10of the league's most death-defying high-wire act.
19:15And he sent no one home disappointed.
19:17Not since the likes of Wilt Chamberlain had there been such a show-stopping rookie
19:23or dominating force.
19:30And like his predecessor,
19:32he too would make his brash assault on the record books.
19:35Chicago was his.
19:45The Bulls were a hot ticket.
19:50And Michael was heir apparent to the title of NBA's premier ambassador.
19:55In only a year's time,
20:00he'd journeyed from Chapel Hill
20:02to Olympic stardom.
20:10With a schedule so hectic,
20:12he had to wait for a Bulls West Coast road trip
20:14to pick up the College Player of the Year award,
20:18which fit nicely alongside his next trophy,
20:20the NBA Rookie of the Year.
20:26Injury.
20:29An athlete's worst nightmare.
20:32Not even the NBA's most celebrated performer
20:35could escape its wrath.
20:38In only the third game of his second professional season,
20:42Michael would hobble to the bench in great pain.
20:46But no one could foresee
20:47that almost an entire season would be lost.
20:50Trying to adjust was not an easy task.
20:56Mentally, it was very hard for me to deal with
20:58because I wanted to get out and play.
21:00I was so used to playing whenever I wanted to play.
21:03And here I couldn't play because of my injury.
21:07At first,
21:08the four-week prognosis was something
21:10Michael could deal with.
21:12But as the weeks turned into months,
21:14his frustration mounted with each passing game.
21:18The unfamiliar role of bystander
21:20had Michael at wit's end,
21:22and he needed to find a way to lessen the pain.
21:24Seeking comfort,
21:27the legendary Tar Heel returned to Chapel Hill.
21:30It was in this gym
21:31where the rehabilitation process would begin.
21:37Michael renewed his fervor for the game
21:39as his foot continued to get stronger.
21:41Once I got that confidence
21:43and the feeling in the foot was getting stronger
21:46as I continued to play,
21:48there wasn't nothing anyone could have said
21:49that could stop me.
21:51But concerned about re-injury,
21:53the Bulls wanted to delay his return.
21:56A rigorous training regiment
21:58was implemented to secure full recovery.
22:00Patiently, Michael waited for his day to come.
22:07Checking into the game for the Bulls.
22:09He's back!
22:11Number 23,
22:12Michael Jordan!
22:14Everybody told me,
22:16you're a fool for playing.
22:17You should go home and relax
22:18and come back next season
22:20and see what happens.
22:21There's the double.
22:22Jordan!
22:23Jack!
22:24Michael!
22:24Once I got that opportunity to play,
22:28I felt I had to prove to people
22:30that I knew what I was doing.
22:32I was a competent individual.
22:33I wasn't doing anything
22:34to jeopardize my career.
22:36I really felt that I was healthy.
22:38I was back.
22:39And I wanted to make the playoffs.
22:41I always said that once I'm in Chicago,
22:43if I have anything to do with it,
22:45I can make the playoffs each year.
22:50Dateline, the playoffs.
22:52Mighty Boston sought
22:53their 16th World Championship.
22:56And for one afternoon,
22:57the time-honored legacy of Celtic pride
22:59would be confronted
23:00by the wave of the future.
23:03Time restraints were lifted.
23:10And Michael would make the most
23:12of his opportunity.
23:17A constant presence
23:18at both ends of the floor,
23:20he single-handedly dismantled
23:23the Celtic attack.
23:26Rendered helpless
23:26by his offensive onslaught,
23:28the core of the Celtics
23:29all tried their hands
23:31at stopping him,
23:32but without success.
23:38Even the most legendary
23:39of them all
23:40was helpless
23:41as Michael continued
23:42to score
23:42at a frantic pace.
23:46Absent for 62 games,
23:48Jordan sought retribution
23:49for lost time.
23:55On the verge of shattering
23:57a single-game scoring record,
23:58there was nothing
23:59that would stand
24:00in his way.
24:02Michael on the drive
24:03across the lane,
24:04turnaround shot,
24:05got it!
24:0563 for Jordan!
24:07A new NBA record
24:08has been set
24:09in the Boston Garden.
24:10When I'm on my game,
24:11when I'm really on
24:13like I was in Boston,
24:14I don't think
24:15there's too many people
24:15that can stop me.
24:16I don't think
24:16there's anybody
24:17that can stop me.
24:18And once I got off
24:18to a good start,
24:19I just felt like
24:21I couldn't stop.
24:22You know,
24:22I could run for days.
24:24This historic feat
24:25secured a place
24:26in basketball annals,
24:27but for others,
24:28the entire experience
24:30since Michael's return
24:31was unsettling.
24:33But the first few games,
24:34obviously,
24:35I was on the edge
24:35of my seat most of the time
24:37because, you know,
24:38God forbid,
24:38something would have happened.
24:40And I'll feel
24:40much more comfortable
24:41this summer
24:42because Michael's
24:43going to play
24:43a lot of golf
24:44and very little basketball.
24:48Come on, baby.
24:49Come on.
24:50Yeah!
24:51Woo-hoo-hoo!
24:53Yes, sir.
24:54We'll take her.
24:55We'll take her.
24:55Well publicized
24:56is Michael's passion
24:57for golf
24:58and the quiet surroundings
24:59it affords.
25:01I mean, it's peaceful.
25:02You're out here
25:03on the course
25:03where you can't get
25:04any phone calls.
25:05You know,
25:06people can't bow to you.
25:07It's really
25:07a relaxing situation.
25:11No, that's short.
25:12Yeah, that's there.
25:14That's short.
25:15You don't compete
25:16against the next guy
25:17who's playing with you.
25:18You compete against
25:18the course.
25:20One day you can shoot
25:2274,
25:23the next day
25:23you can shoot 84.
25:25That's the game of golf.
25:26You know,
25:27you never really
25:27can conquer it.
25:28You can only
25:28contain it
25:30and hold it
25:30for a little while
25:31and then it just goes.
25:33The mind comes
25:33into this game so much.
25:35It comes
25:36into basketball too
25:37but sometimes
25:38your skills
25:38can overcome
25:40the mind a little bit
25:41but in golf
25:43if your mind's
25:44not in it
25:44you can forget it.
25:47The free throw situation
25:48you know,
25:49it's similar.
25:49Putting and free throw
25:50is the same
25:51and consistency
25:52and the skill
25:53of going through
25:54the same motion
25:55every time.
26:01I take that.
26:02That's the ticket?
26:03That's it?
26:04That's the ticket?
26:05Woo!
26:06I have played golf
26:07with Michael before
26:08and it's probably
26:10the only time
26:10that he keeps
26:11his tongue
26:11in his mouth
26:13other than
26:14when he's wagging it
26:15telling me
26:16how good he is.
26:17Other than that
26:18I just really enjoy
26:20taking money from him.
26:21Smart money says
26:22it doesn't happen
26:23too often.
26:26Woo!
26:27Woo!
26:36In the home.
26:38I take it.
26:40Perhaps a career
26:41after basketball
26:43is in the making.
26:45That's a jump shot.
26:46That's a jump shot.
26:48But for Michael Jordan
26:52the future is now.
26:54He lives and plays
26:56with style and charisma.
27:01And just may be
27:03the most identifiable
27:04athlete in all of sports.
27:07First, his attire
27:09baggy shorts
27:10and the wristband
27:11on the forearm.
27:13And then there is
27:14the ever-present tongue.
27:16As far as I can remember
27:17it originated
27:18from my granddad.
27:19My granddad
27:20stuck his tongue out
27:23and if I'm working
27:24on my car
27:25or something around
27:25the house
27:26I find myself
27:26going.
27:28You know,
27:28really concentrating.
27:30Like father,
27:31like son.
27:40Michael's distinct
27:41on-court fashion
27:42has even caught
27:43the eye
27:43of the world
27:44of modeling.
27:44With his striking
27:47good looks
27:48and his charming
27:49demeanor
27:49the megastar
27:50is a natural.
27:51oczywiście.
27:52Córdia
27:55I find the way
27:56to bring
27:56together
27:57it

28:47In the realm of sports, Michael has been tortured by innumerable product lines and in the process has become one of the hottest commodities in the advertising industry. With his exposure at an all-time high, Michael can go nowhere without attracting attention.
29:17But fame and fortune have truly not changed Michael.
29:22Tear it up. Y'all have a nice summer, Chicago.
29:33The drive makes right, right bangs into Jordan, fish off inside, tipped away by Pippen, Horace Grant, the steal, up court, Paxson.
29:39Although Jordan spends a good deal of time in the air, his values are firmly down-to-earth.
29:45I was taught right from wrong. I was always involved in the boys' club when I was smaller.
29:51So I was able to step up and be an outspoken person against things that I didn't want to be involved in.
30:00So don't blow it. Don't do drugs. If you're doing it, stop it. Get some help.
30:05McDonald's wants you to give yourself a chance. A chance to find out all the wonderful things you really can be. And so do I.
30:14I could have easily had parents that didn't care and let me hang out late nights and, you know, hang out with the wrong crowd.
30:21But I wasn't brought up that way and it was easy for me to distinguish away from the environment that I wanted to be with and the environment that I didn't want to be with.
30:30Michael is like a Pied Piper for fans of all ages. And fortunately, he leads them in only positive directions.
30:43I was always taught never forget where you came from. My parents, if I changed as a person, they would be the first ones to tell me that.
30:53And they haven't told me yet, so I'm doing well. But I always wanted to be an easygoing guy.
30:59My personality is that I'm outgoing. I love people. I love being around people. I love kids.
31:05So if I didn't have the personality to do it, it would be tough. But my personality fits this mold very easily.
31:13You know, I don't want to be isolated from people. I think when you isolate yourself from people, then you feel that you're better than people.
31:20I don't feel that I'm better than you or the next person. But I think in society, sometimes they view you to be better than the next person.
31:26I don't think that's fair. But there's a lot of things in society that it's not fair. You just have to live by it.
31:32And I wish everybody could be viewed equal. But I don't think it's ever going to be that way.
31:38No sight inspires more fear and would-be defenders than this offensive juggernaut.
32:00If I get the ball, you have mercy of whatever I want to do.
32:07There's nothing that you can say or do about it if I'm on my game.
32:11The feeling is you own the ball, you own the game, you own the guy who's guarding you.
32:19You can actually play him like a puppet.
32:22Few puppet masters apply their trade as skillfully as Michael.
32:30He simply takes over a game whenever he chooses.
32:34When I'm playing really good, that's the feeling that I have.
32:39An unparalleled shot maker, his offensive repertoire is limitless.
32:43Regarded as the prolific scorer in the new era, his peerless athleticism makes him the most formidable weapon on the court today.
32:57Jordan attacks the basket as though possessed.
32:59And he lights up NBA scoreboards at a dizzying pace.
33:09And he lights up NBA scoreboards at a dizzying pace.
35:09With 200 steals and 100 blocks, for the second straight season, he was named 1988's Defensive Player of the Year, as well as its most valuable player.
35:21Here's Jordan, a steal from Newbars, takes it in for the gun.
35:29In the 1989 season, Jordan would shoulder yet another burden.
35:44He would become a point guard.
35:51And of course, he was nothing short of breathtaking.
35:55Still, his team's most potent weapon, he was now also its general.
36:07Adding still another dimension to his game, Jordan marshalled the Bulls' charge into the first round of the playoffs.
36:16Once there, he was unstoppable.
36:24The inbounds pass comes into Jordan.
36:29Here's Michael at the foul line.
36:30A shot on Elo.
36:31Good!
36:32The Bulls win it!
36:33We win it!
36:34Set the Cleveland Cavaliers!
36:37Michael Jordan hits it at the foul line!
36:39Whoa!
36:40I don't know, we just, we try and try, but it is just hard to stop that guy.
36:45I mean, I don't know what to do.
36:47We tried and tried and tried and tried.
36:50The Atlantic Division champion New York Knicks were next to attempt to halt the Jordan juggernaut.
36:58They would not succeed.
36:59Reliving Cleveland's nightmare, they could only stand by and watch as Jordan simply took over at both ends of the court.
37:15Rudely shattering their playoff dreams.
37:21In the conference finals, the Detroit Pistons awaited it.
37:24And though they would go on to take the championship trophy, the playoffs' most dramatic curtain call belonged to Jordan.
37:32Jordan begins Rodman, down the lane to the right, shoots off the glass, first it is!
37:35Yeah!
37:36Woo!
37:47People ask me, you really think you can fly?
37:50I say, yeah, for a little while.
37:51It may be a split second, but it's flying.
37:54And I think people are amazed by that, because they wish they could do it.
38:11And it makes me continue to work hard to keep making these people dream and enjoy their dreams.
38:16Michael's Airborne Ballet is very much about dreams.
38:32Dreams of unearthly grace.
38:34Dreams of unrestrained freedom.
38:43Of majestic power.
38:56Dreams of flight.
38:57Dreams of flight.
38:58Dreams of flight.
38:59From Michael and his fans, basketball is a way of sharing a fantasy.
39:16Like a small group of aerial voyagers, Michael evokes images of the stratosphere.
39:33The visions which dreams are made of.
39:39From home.
39:40These books will être inhabited by the permanent space.
39:42And we've gotten ourselves out of.
39:45By South Angeles or Arizona.
39:47nurses.
39:47In my mind.
39:48Like a small государ très peligros.
39:48I think that it's a小oseducation at only.
39:50My fiance is again.
39:50Iinte.
39:53In my life.
39:53The distance.
39:54In my mind.
39:56The best side of life.
39:58These books they've just been searched.
39:59Hey, all they've seen a new page.
40:00They sightseeing on the mountain.
40:00On a hill with the quilt.
40:01After all those pictures.
40:03This thing is interesting.
40:04Hey, worm's ever.
40:04They're out of elない.
40:05I think we've got the new jobittens.
40:05My head of a house,
40:06I've been to go through.
40:07Michael may be able to achieve the unbelievable on the basketball team, but to those who look
40:23up to him, he is a very real person who possesses the rare gift to both capture their imagination
40:29and touch their hearts.
40:32He's just, if I must say, again, I'm proud of him.
40:35He is my son, but he is a good person.
41:06Entrancing to watch, his performances capture the gamut of emotions.
41:12No one in the stands is more moved than his family.
41:25When he comes home, I talk to him just like he's one of my boys, and I can't get in my
41:31mind that he's any different.
41:33But when I walk into the stadium and 18,000 people are standing there hollering and screaming,
41:38sometimes you want to cry, you break out with goosebumps, and you just get all of these
41:42eerie feelings.
41:43And naturally, you have to be very, very proud.
41:45The Jordans have learned to share their pride because Michael is a one-of-a-kind performer
41:53whom a whole nation has adopted.
41:59Almost as much as his unparalleled ability, it is the irrepressible joy with which he plays
42:06that makes him special to his fans, Michael is a weaver of basketball lore, a master storyteller
42:23whose endings are always happy ones.
42:28At the end, I cannot wait for you.
