07:33back i'll teach you to slow down a little bit and appreciate stuff can you call us a taxi to the
07:39bus station as we're getting towards the end of the race the decisions are harder i'm trusting
07:46thomas i suppose come on let's go now he is experiencing more of life i just love being
07:54with him i love his enthusiasm i love his carefree attitude and want a little bit of that for myself
08:02to see life more through his eyes we're going tom's gamble to venture into less explored territory
08:11heading south through the thar desert we're trying to go to jodhpur we need a nice sleeve of us we'll
08:18take that one 2800 what time do we arrive at 7 billion thomas has been really throwing himself
08:24into it today finding out all we need to know we're gonna get jodhpur there i know i know it's really
08:30good halfway to the checkpoint we would be covering the biggest distance now that's incredible
08:38as carline and tom resume their race
08:45look at this view it's not even real it'd be nice being out here in the mountains 33 hours behind them
08:55finn and seanard remain paused in mcleod gang when i'm crying because i definitely will cry again
09:01i know as much as i probably want to be babied and be like oh it's okay tell me to just get a grip oh
09:08that's a bit harsh i can't really do that i do need to wise up i'm a big girl i think it'd be nice if we
09:15can now both work together it's fine for her to get overwhelmed but maybe if she can kind of push
09:19through it and make decisions with me i think we'll get a lot further there's been a lot of emotions in
09:25india i think but we are still here and i think we are getting better if you told me last year in one
09:32year you'll be every day not knowing where we're actually going to sleep tonight that's something i
09:37would have thought i would struggle with but i actually really am enjoying that you're learning new
09:41things about yourself with this it's going to be a challenge to catch up but it's not impossible
09:47i think we can do it and i think we will do it we've learned anything can happen oh my
09:53shit oh hello are they even real can i try feed oh was that far
10:08manic innit yeah it's man
10:13second to depart brian and melvin have made it to amritsar in punjab
10:18i do like the idea of going through the desert if i'm honest something i've always fancied
10:24i think we'll be in the middle of nowhere but as a crow flies that's pretty straightforward i think
10:29it'd be great we would like to get to jordpa tonight so better for you the 8pm okay
10:36okay that gets us a long way brian with their first connection south towards the great indian desert booked
10:46there's time for the brothers to explore how beautiful is that it's lovely isn't it
10:54founded in 1577 by the fourth sikh guru ram das amritsar is the holiest city in sikhism
11:04its most sacred shrine the golden temple got to wear a headscarf
11:11oh yeah i should do it just look like a twat yeah
11:19i mean it's quite an impressive building isn't it following the tradition of selfless service known
11:25as seva the temple provides 100 000 free meals a day giving amritsar the accolade the city where no one
11:33goes hungry i'm desperately in need of the lumel i've got stomach cramps if i can find a sit down
11:43toilet and then my stomach might go down it's in like in spasms at the moment okay let's go then
11:50all right yeah there is a part of me saying i don't go on a bus today brian stay in a hotel overnight if we
12:00do that we're going to be 24 hours behind everybody else we can't afford to do it we'll battle on we'll
12:07be bottom of the pile if we miss for me if i miss this bus
12:11we just come from the mountains and here it's so flat already yeah we're going so fast leaving the
12:25checkpoint four hours after brian and melvin elizabeth and leticia are also arriving in amritsar careful
12:32don't do that no it's better after two back-to-back buses they're searching for their third connection
12:39to drive them south to the pilgrimage town of pushka hello we have a bus ticket
12:46must be okay okay is this it must be i don't need to ask
12:57we should go and say hi so should i make him jump no no no wait there's the girls hey guys
13:04are you all right are you or somebody else we've had the day here you go to temple yeah it's a
13:10beautiful place but he ain't feeling very well so i've got oh even me oh jelly belly
13:16they're going into the desert then i presume oh no no no not desert oh we're going to jodhpur oh
13:21jodhpur competition we've just oh oh we gotta go right okay good luck i wouldn't even expect
13:29to see anybody we close it up kind of it's good seeing someone ahead rather than someone behind
13:37they're very smart the girls are they're smart cookies we're in competition mode we need to lie
13:42cheat and steal well not steal but lying thank you i don't think we've done anything wrong on the leg so
13:50far we managed to book a bus out tonight i don't think we could have done anything else brian and
13:55melvin are living the luxury of the exclusively luxurious life look at ours look it's got tape on
14:05the front oh gosh boys all right yeah okay wait to the girls bro yeah she's waving
14:15uh being ill in india is not fun but tom and caroline have overtaken us so we need to try and catch up
14:24and get first i would say i'm very ambitious i want to succeed i agree we both have that ability to
14:33to push ourselves haven't we yeah i don't think i've ever given up on anything i've ever tried no we don't
14:39give up it's probably the most important leg for us a lot of catching up to do so yeah the last team
14:52to depart the checkpoint finn and shawnhead needing to close the 33-hour gap on the race leaders
15:00should i do what i'm thinking yeah quickest route it's an in and out job we get to the places we need
15:05to go short stops and go again all of the teams know we're so far behind but hopefully their luck
15:12runs out now and ours kicks in well i think we need to go to places that are very well connected i
15:18know it's through big cities and i'm not gonna like that but it's probably better to stick on these
15:23well-traveled routes the couple's plan back-to-back transport along the tourist trail
15:31we want to find maybe like an overnight transport that'll get us as far as we can today that'll be
15:36that'd be best case scenario bus service whoo do buses go from chandigar to jaipur what is the
15:46furthest we can get tonight towards jaipur is there a bus tonight every year we book thank you very much
15:55yes we're moving which is a very good start we have onwards transport out we are going i think we'll
16:06catch her 850 kilometers south jodhpur called the blue city for its houses decorated by the priestly
16:18brahman caste to distinguish their social superiority
16:25on its outskirts salavas village where carline and tom have arrived
16:34namaste namaste
16:39oh wow oh thank you they will work and stay with the prajapats
16:43and the cooperative of 48 families this is so cool do you guys live here it's a home we are 21
16:51members in the house 21 members you will meet all of them this is my father turban 10 meters long
16:59and why do you wear a turban my father is the boss of the house
17:03this is very much a working village i'm very nervous to try and not break one because i can
17:15imagine they're very brittle you need to be very careful this whole village is like an arty village
17:22and all the families help to make everything like this this is a pottery family so they're making water
17:27jugs and then you've got other like carpenter families and it's just a really nice community
17:33of everyone who works together and helps each other out being a laborer on the building sites
17:40so that means you are actually hard worker i prefer being outside and working like with my hands
17:45rather than in an office or probably similar to everyone in this village we are connected with
17:51the nature more interesting and it's good for the health as well yes our body is moving for me comes
17:57in my job that's what i'm looking to find hopefully one day for generations mr prajapats family have
18:05specialized in crafting durries traditional cotton rugs once supplying the palaces of maharajas
18:13today their traditional manufacturing method prevails oh my golly thomas wow gorgeous sit this one
18:27this one and this one there oh my god you can't even get one strand wrong can you
18:32it looks so difficult can i do left oh oh i don't know if i can do that
18:52i struggle with my right hand in this work you need to be both handed must use this hand
18:59oh i i i was born with cerebral palsy that's fine um i i'd love to try and use the right i'll just
19:05do a bad job i don't want to mess it up and it's a nice carpet that's all i mean if you are doing the
19:10well in that end and then it's fine am i doing well save an idea he's very strict teacher that's good he has to be
19:22that's genuinely the first time that i've openly said that i've got terrible palsy and his reaction
19:29was so anticlimactic in such a good way he was just like oh okay and it turned out that it didn't really
19:38matter you're getting the hang of it i think so he he's a really good teacher i guess it's the start
19:44of breaking down a barrier in my own head and it's nice to to see that finally happening no i'm really
19:50enjoying it yes that's important it's great i'm loving it it was quite a revelation he actually
19:58came out and said to a total stranger i've got cerebral palsy i'm really proud of him how long
20:05does it take to know exactly how to do three to four years three to four years thomas seems to have
20:12rediscovered a driving force he seems to be more mature how lovely that he is finding his feet
20:18it's just lovely to be around him at the moment you are doing a good job i might get into carpet making
20:25at home
20:31just 19 kilometers north
20:36feeling any better brian and melvin are closing in on the blue city still a bit of stomach ache i'm more
20:44concerned with getting on to the next part of the of the journey landscapes change to green fields trees
20:55it is flat a bit like lincolnshire in the sun
21:02190 kilometers to the east
21:04the cows on a mission
21:09oh look at all the colors it's quite colorful here too elizabeth and letitia have stopped off in pushka
21:15one of india's oldest towns
21:17tomorrow we want to go to george paul i will take see like motion with four thousand five hundred
21:27four thousand five hundred can we do like three thousand five hundred no because this is the 440
21:33kilometers 3 800 and we can shake hands
21:36oh lovely you're wagging more than angels
21:43okay bye bye
21:48securing a direct transfer tomorrow
21:51look at that lake
21:54i can also just even mountains over back too yeah provides them with an opportunity to explore pushka's
22:00sacred lake i think we want to take our shoes off here gosh i haven't even painted my toenails
22:06it is said it was formed by lord brahma the hindu god of creation
22:11during a battle petals from a lotus flower fell from his hand
22:16and as they touched the ground holy water rose up
22:24every day religious ceremonies are held on the banks of the lake including puja rituals
22:30a chance to honor family and loved ones by making offerings to deities and ancestors
22:37because we come from city here to hand here oh oh no no no no no see you are born
22:47see you are born grand father fuja
22:49can't happen for job grandmother fuja
22:52grand family puja grand family puja what name letitia my mother my mother my father my father my sister
23:02my sister my brother it was nice to share a little spiritual moment
23:06my sister she tries to talk about emotions which is not my specialty and i don't like it at all
23:27a lot of things are unsaid on my part anyway
23:38namaste
23:40namaste
23:44namaste
23:46namaste
23:48namaste
23:50and i am actually very grateful i think we were always kind of there for each other
23:56yeah i feel like now but i feel like there was a moment where support wasn't present really
24:02when we lost the family house i just remember being in a car driving somewhere seeing if we can
24:10stay there you just had either one or two bags and had to part with a lot of stuff
24:19yeah i remember feeling so bad how sudden the move was for you
24:23i had some kind of inkling there was something going on i didn't think it was going to be
24:33news in the house but in 2008 with the whole economic crisis my dad went out of work in construction
24:44in 2012 we had to pack our things and see where we're going to go basically
24:51i just felt ashamed about it and embarrassed
24:57yeah i think that's what i feel like bad about i kind of run away i didn't experience the hardest
25:05times that you guys felt
25:08they went to temporary accommodation i was already over 18 so they weren't gonna you know house me
25:16so i went to italy i was only like 14 so i felt like i was just going through it by myself really
25:26i definitely needed someone to talk to for me it felt like you just suddenly left
25:32it was hard for me to hear i didn't really have anybody to talk to my reaction to hearing that is
25:40guilt but i kind of just tried to do like what i could at the moment at that time
25:48was that your decision to leave
25:51well i felt like there was no space for me anymore my space in england wasn't yeah there anymore
25:57and yeah i didn't really know how you felt anyway you know feeling like you didn't have a place when
26:05you came back oh this is probably the most i've actually
26:10i feel so good talking about this so good
26:23i've opened up emotionally today i think more than ever
26:28some weight has been lifted off my shoulders and and i do feel a lot lighter i do feel
26:32you know i'm glad we are talking about it and is is overdue really you know
26:44we are getting past the hard bit i feel like it'll be one of many conversations we'll probably have you
26:50know
27:15as three teams continue to head south through rajasthan
27:19let's get on our way
27:22oh carline and tom are the first to cross into gujarat i think i've worked out my single favorite
27:28thing to do in india what's that and it's just a wave at people making a connection in amdabad
27:35we've seen an experience possibly with some work as well that is desert lodge
27:42neither of us have ever been to a proper desert
27:48but we are
27:59he just got out and had a little prayer and then got back in the window back on our way
28:06I mean, you've got to respect it.
28:09Yeah, I do, but I've never seen it.
28:10Yeah, yeah, it's amazing.
28:12I like that.
28:17And 650 kilometres behind...
28:21I think today's aim is to get to Udaipur by bus or train,
28:27whatever's faster.
28:29Finn and Sean Ed have reached Rajasthan's capital,
28:33the pink city of Jaipur.
28:36We need to go to Udaipur.
28:3810.30.
28:39And are on the hunt for another long-distance bus
28:41to propel them forward.
28:43Double sleeper?
28:44Erm, cheapest one.
28:46When does it arrive?
28:475.30pm.
28:48Two tickets, yeah?
28:491800 to double sleeper.
28:501800, perfect.
28:52We've literally arrived and we're leaving.
29:00That one she'd like.
29:02I hope she'll like it.
29:04A little pre-bus cake date.
29:08Oh my gosh, cake.
29:11Thanks.
29:13I've been cake deprived.
29:18I love cake for breakfast.
29:20I've nearly scuffed it all down already.
29:26You good?
29:27Wow, this cake's worked.
29:29This is a magic cake, honestly.
29:30It is, isn't it?
29:33Well, Scott, are you okay?
29:34There's been many points where I've thought I could not handle India.
29:43It is already a big thing for me to just even still be here.
29:47But I think if we were able to catch up with three more teams now,
29:51it would be surprising for a lot of people.
29:55Whilst the young couple refuel...
29:58Yum.
30:00..two teams have made it to the largest desert in India.
30:05The Thar.
30:06Crikey.
30:07Some of them are big, aren't they?
30:08Absolutely ideal.
30:09I mean, the view now is absolutely beautiful.
30:10It's just beautiful.
30:12Whoa!
30:26Whoa!
30:30Stretching for 200,000 square kilometres across the subcontinent...
30:35Love.
30:37Thomas, this is amazing.
30:39It's a haven for biodiversity,
30:42including 141 species of bird
30:46and human settlements dating back tens of thousands of years.
30:52Today, with over 16 million inhabitants,
30:56it's the most densely populated desert in the world.
31:00Ah, I can see one, yeah.
31:01Yeah.
31:02Yeah, I got them there.
31:03Oh, I got them.
31:04Yeah, I got them.
31:05Amazing place.
31:07They're gorgeous animals.
31:09Oh, Thomas, that is lovely, actually, to see that in that setting.
31:13It's so silent.
31:15Within the desert, a salt marsh known as the Little Ran of Kutch,
31:21home to the critically endangered Indian wild ass.
31:25How many do they think are left?
31:30About 3,000 animals.
31:31Is that true?
31:32Yeah.
31:33But you will not see this animal anywhere in the world.
31:39They can go over 70 kilometres an hour.
31:43Oh, my God!
31:44They're extremely fast, much faster than a horse.
31:47Yes!
31:48A special moment.
31:49Magical.
31:50To think they're just truly, truly wild.
31:51And here we are in their life.
31:52And it's just beautiful.
31:53Hello.
31:55Are you beautiful?
31:56It's an amazing sight, isn't it?
31:57Hello.
31:58430 kilometres north of them, in the desert village of Rajpura.
32:03You don't get it any fresher than that, mate, do you?
32:04Brian and Melvin are on hand at a camel dairy farm.
32:06Mmm.
32:07Oh, look.
32:08Oh, look.
32:09I think it's a nice pie.
32:10Oh, look.
32:11Oh, look in the forest.
32:12We're going to have a close peak we'll have at a close peak,
32:13to go home with the little bird and trees.
32:14Oh.
32:15Let's see.
32:16You won't get away from the cat.
32:17I think it's a super good mouse.
32:18Oh, look!
32:19Hell, look.
32:20Oh, look.
32:21For a long time, you didn't get away.
32:22Oh, my, look!
32:23How beautiful.
32:24Go ahead, Matt.
32:25Oh, my, look.
32:26Oh, my, look.
32:27I'm a little bit more.
32:28Oh, my, look.
32:29What's all good?
32:30My, look.
32:31Can you take a bit more...
32:33Oh, my, look, look.
32:34Oh, that's lovely!
32:41Pull, squeeze, pull, squeeze, yeah? Pull, squeeze.
32:45Squeeze, pull. No, pull, squeeze, I think.
32:50I think you're getting me now.
32:51I'm not. I'm getting something in the pond.
32:53I'm not doing it as well as the other gentlemen, but we're getting some.
32:57The region is home to a community of rikers,
33:00nomadic herders who have been shepherding camels for centuries.
33:04A duty believed to have been assigned to them by the Hindu god, Lord Shiva.
33:09I'll show you how to do it properly.
33:11Go on, then. Not as easy as it looks, isn't it?
33:13Ah, it's easy. Look at this.
33:15Come on, come on.
33:18There you go. Look, this is technique.
33:21I got twice as much as you did.
33:22Well, I don't think you did.
33:27That's a big term.
33:29Thank you, my friend.
33:32That's good.
33:33I'm going to make it up.
33:34That's good.
33:37These camel herders, they are hard to keep up with.
33:40Some of them are probably older than us.
33:42They do look well-weathered.
33:44They're very fit.
33:45It's a very simplistic life, isn't it?
33:49However, they all have mobile phones.
33:50I noticed that.
33:53We need to catch them up, Mel.
33:54I know.
33:55We're coming.
33:56Coming.
33:56With a flock of 150 camels, each with unique footprints,
34:03the Rikers can recognise their own animals
34:05from just the marks left in the sand.
34:08Yeah, brother.
34:10Come on.
34:11You probably didn't listen to you, brother.
34:12Well, they're moving, aren't they?
34:14Come on, then.
34:15I've been poorly, and doing the race when you're ill
34:20is even tougher.
34:22You have to keep on going.
34:24Come on.
34:26This adventure has been the most uncomfortable adventure
34:30of my life.
34:31but it has been
34:33the most rewarding
34:36in that I'm still here
34:38and I'm still talking about it
34:40because many a times
34:41I want to give up and go home
34:44but I haven't.
34:46Right, guys.
34:47We're moving.
34:49Come on.
34:50Come on.
34:53Come on, girls.
34:57When we were kids,
34:58we did promise ourselves an invention,
35:00yeah, and it's probably happened
35:01a little bit later
35:02than we anticipated
35:04but just because you're a little bit older
35:06it doesn't mean you can't do
35:08these sort of things.
35:09I'm on statins.
35:11I take something from a prostate
35:13but it's what it is, isn't it?
35:16I'm still here.
35:17Look what I've got to enjoy.
35:19Yo!
35:20Click, click, click, click, click.
35:23Go for it, guys.
35:25It'll be a lot easier to sit on one.
35:29Growing old, it does worry me.
35:31When I look in the mirror
35:32and I look at myself,
35:33I don't actually recognise me.
35:36I still think I'm 14, 15, 16.
35:40I still think I've got a full head of hair.
35:45There you go.
35:45Right, that's how you do it.
35:47Don't leave none behind.
35:49Good job.
35:49I think there might be the odd one or two adventures
36:03that Melvin and I will do again.
36:04I mean, you know, I'm actually thinking
36:08that I'd want to share a nursing home with my brother.
36:12It'd probably cause a bit of mayhem.
36:14Yeah.
36:16Yeah, we'd probably do silly things
36:18because we could get away with it.
36:19We're going that way.
36:32That way.
36:33I'll be a little.
36:34Okay, great.
36:36So long.
36:36Thank you very much.
36:36So long.
36:37See you long.
36:38Thank you all.
36:40Thank you all.
36:40Bye, camels.
36:43Journey starts all over again.
36:45It does.
36:45We know that other teams are pretty close to us.
36:50Melvin and I aren't runners,
36:52so we need to try and maintain touching distance of everyone.
36:56As Brian and Melvin resume their journey...
37:00Racing across the world.
37:02150 kilometres from the brothers,
37:05Elizabeth and Leticia are continuing their march south.
37:09Started in China.
37:12I definitely feel like there's a change.
37:14There's like a shift and I feel like we're very much more open
37:18and it's just easier just travelling actually together.
37:22We've come a long way.
37:24I'm loving it.
37:25Eddie, she's not thinking.
37:28On a bus.
37:33Having left Jaipur...
37:35I want a shower to brush my teeth.
37:38Finn and Sean Ed are making swift progress
37:41by taking the third long-distance bus in two days.
37:45Aiming for Udaipur, the white city.
37:49I'm feeling absolutely disgusting.
37:52I feel so salty.
37:55I changed my underwear.
37:57Be honest.
37:59Yesterday, before the bus.
38:01Three days ago.
38:02The whole outfit, I'm wearing it for three days.
38:05Yeah.
38:05Not my underwear.
38:07Not that gross.
38:08I don't think we could have done it any quicker.
38:15Two 10-hour buses in 24 hours.
38:18We've just been go, go, go.
38:21I think we're very tired.
38:22We've seen a homestay.
38:24It's on the way.
38:25But we work for a reduced rate at the ranch.
38:28Ready then to restart tomorrow
38:31and do the final push towards Chadwick.
38:35Still in the little ran of Kutch...
38:42Oh, I'm going to take my feet off.
38:45Oh, nice.
38:47Caroline and Tom...
38:49It's absolutely just like another planet.
38:53Once part of the Arabian Sea,
38:55until it became isolated following a series of earthquakes,
38:58it is now one of the largest salt deserts in the world.
39:05Every year, it floods with the monsoon
39:09before drying out to leave an expanse of salty, cracked earth.
39:14There is families who are producing salt here.
39:18OK.
39:19In return for discounted accommodation,
39:22Caroline and Tom are kept busy.
39:24The whole pan needs to be done.
39:26What?
39:27Yes.
39:27So, could you not have a machine that does it?
39:35Machinery kills labour.
39:37People need jobs.
39:39The local Agaria people
39:41use a process of compressing the ground
39:43to minimise water and release the salt.
39:48They say you do it very well.
39:50Can he give 100 kilos of salt to your son and keep you, please?
39:54LAUGHTER
39:55That's the second marriage proposal I've had since I've been out here.
40:01It has a therapeutic quality about it.
40:05I'm just in my own little world here, yet in the most enormous expanse,
40:10and it just brings you back to how unimportant we really are.
40:13Nature will win every time.
40:14I'm feeling conflicted because, on one hand, I'm worried that we're taking a long time to get to the checkpoints,
40:24and on the other hand, I'm really enjoying what rural India is showing us.
40:30I'm slowly falling in love with this.
40:32It's just as important that you enjoy the journey as much as you enjoy the destination.
40:38I'm enjoying the experiences enormously,
40:44and I'm allowing myself to enjoy them more than I thought I would.
40:47I think I'm being quite different from the person I am at home,
40:51more emotional, generally a lot happier,
40:55easygoing, which isn't like me at all.
40:58Does it make you question your competitive side?
41:01In an answer, no.
41:02I'm afraid my competitive side is still at the fore,
41:05so I actually want to combine the two.
41:07I would have thought by this point you were probably pulling your own hair out.
41:10Wanting to race?
41:11Yeah, yeah.
41:12I would be a really selfish person to not want to do this with you.
41:16Yes, yeah, of course.
41:17Because these are just the most special memories we're making.
41:21But then equally, I'd be selfish to try and take away your competitive side,
41:25because that's what makes you tick.
41:26Hey, we're finding a balance.
41:29Thomas, don't fall over.
41:30I'll start slow first.
41:31Five kilometres outside of Udaipur.
42:00It's hard work.
42:01Finn and Sean Ed are working at Krishna Ranch
42:04as make way towards last night's accommodation.
42:08Steal some, quick.
42:09Take some.
42:10Quick.
42:11Oh, shit.
42:12Whew.
42:13These are the times where I'm like, wow,
42:15I'm really, really grateful for being in India, really.
42:18Yeah.
42:18Woo.
42:20Although we have just prioritised speed,
42:22I'm finding this leg very, very enjoyable.
42:24I'm absolutely loving it.
42:26Just an absolutely beautiful place.
42:27I genuinely would not want to be anywhere else right now.
42:30There's chipmunks, there's horses, there's cows, there's chickens just running around, there's birds.
42:36There's some food.
42:38Come on in, heading.
42:40Good girl.
42:41Please be good.
42:42Oh, shit, you're strong.
42:44Oh, shit.
42:45It's been very important for me to have Finn with me in India because he manages to keep things a bit more positive and keep the boat floating, really.
42:58He's the most resilient person I know.
43:00I don't think he understands, like, how much he has actually gone through.
43:06Hello.
43:10Look.
43:12There are bits in India where I do find it hard, but I think Kishnod finds it hard.
43:17I just try and stay positive, and I do definitely think I'm a little bit more resilient.
43:22I think just growing up, for me, I've realised, like, I mean, life isn't perfect and things happen.
43:30When I was 11, I would think I was on the sofa.
43:34I just wasn't really moving.
43:37My mum was like, oh, OK, something's wrong.
43:39She just thought, right, I'm taking you to the doctors.
43:43And it's good that she did.
43:45Yeah, good that she did.
43:47It was top one diabetes.
43:49It was a week in intensive care, then it was a week in just children's ward.
43:58Quite a lot for 11, I think.
44:01Being diabetic, there's a lot of complications that can come with it, you know, in your eyes.
44:05And I think my eyes are already going a little bit.
44:09Obviously, only being 18, it's not something you really want to think about, I don't think.
44:17But it's something you've got to think about.
44:22About two years after, I had a tumour in my head.
44:27And I had surgery then, in my head, because they found out what it was.
44:30But that was horrific.
44:32Being rushed up to a bigger hospital, this is not good.
44:36Obviously, you think you're going to die.
44:38OK, I'm fine now.
44:42Um...
44:43Look, this is the cutest little horse ever.
44:58Now, I don't take anything for granted.
45:04And this race is hard, but I'm just trying to enjoy it, really.
45:07And so far, I am, because it is something I look back to and think I'm...
45:11I'm so proud that I did that.
45:15Which I am.
45:19And someone else agrees.
45:21Goodbye.
45:21Bye-bye.
45:23We've got to sleep, so hopefully we can just sleep all night, wake up and be in Rajkot.
45:49That's the plan.
45:52As Finn and Sean Ed get back on the road,
45:55two teams are gaining ground.
46:00It's really important that we try and get there today, because I pick the food.
46:04Looking on the map, it is another 300 kilometres.
46:09Making a beeline for the checkpoint.
46:12I'm going to find you on the way to the checkpoint,
46:14because I feel like it was a long time coming.
46:16This is where, you know, we need to be.
46:19Go, go, go.
46:21This is our longest journey.
46:24How long is it?
46:2515 to 16 hours.
46:29At their homestay in the rural village of Zainabad...
46:33How far away is Sassangir from here?
46:34300 kilometres, I think.
46:37Caroline and Tom weigh up their next move.
46:40Where's the closest place that we could get to tonight?
46:43Junagod.
46:43Let's just get a taxi there now.
46:45If you can help us, that would be great.
46:47Yeah, this is India.
46:48Anything can happen.
46:49Absolutely anything.
46:51I am a little bit concerned that our position might have dropped.
46:54We've idled for quite a few hours.
46:56And just think at the back of my mind, we're standing still.
46:59And I think the other teams might be moving on and overtaking us.
47:03I do actually still need to race.
47:06Vehicle arrives in 10, 15 minutes.
47:08And it is about 7,200 rupees.
47:13Obviously a bit expensive for us, but...
47:14Is there a bus available?
47:16There is one directly to Junagod.
47:18Do you know what time it gets in?
47:19Six, seven hours.
47:21You don't know roughly how much the bus is?
47:24Maximum 150 rupees.
47:26Oh, we're such a dilemma.
47:27It's up to you.
47:28What do you want to do?
47:28We have both options available.
47:33Back at you.
47:35I've told you, I'd rather get a taxi, I think.
47:36But I need your opinion.
47:38So I don't mind?
47:38That's not good enough.
47:39I'm sorry.
47:40You need to be able to make a decision.
47:41We do have the budget.
47:42Well, go with it then.
47:43If that's what you want, just go with that.
47:45Okay.
47:47It's all just about saving time.
47:49But when I ask Mum, she puts all the pressure on me.
47:51Mum's saying she's feeling all liberated.
47:54She needs to be able to make a decision.
47:55Because that's part of racing.
47:58It's a lot of money to spend.
47:59But it might well be worth it.
48:01But I really don't want to take responsibility.
48:04And I will try my hardest not to say, I told you so, if it all goes wrong.
48:11It's here.
48:13Thank you so much.
48:14One day we'll go to Weatherspoons together.
48:17Oh, I love it.
48:18All four teams have made it to Gujarat.
48:41As Brian and Melvin take a 5am bus for the final 40km to Checkpoint...
48:50There's nobody else on the bus from the race, so it could be good news.
48:56The adrenaline's building, isn't it?
48:59How much?
49:00How much?
49:012,500.
49:03We need to...
49:04We're in a race.
49:05We need to...
49:06Caroline and Tom opt for another private taxi.
49:10This car.
49:11Lovely.
49:12Having arrived overnight from Jodhpur...
49:15One way.
49:16From here, Sasanguil and stop.
49:184,500.
49:20Yeah, yeah.
49:20Elizabeth and Letitia secure their final transfer.
49:24How much would it be to get a Sasanguil?
49:26Thank you very much.
49:29Whilst Finn and Seanid continue to keep their pace.
49:32Very expensive.
49:33Very expensive.
49:33Very expensive.
49:35But we need to save as much time as we can.
49:37My head's on the roof.
49:40After Sasanguil.
49:42I'd be pretty gutted to find out that we haven't gamed any time.
49:46If we haven't, it's probably game over.
49:49My heart's going like bubble, bubble, bubble.
49:51This is when the nerve starts kicking.
49:55I still can't help feeling we've dropped a couple of places.
49:57We go fast, fast, fast.
50:02Yeah.
50:03I'm going to get one lion.
50:05Lion.
50:07I am hoping we're not going to be running alongside a lion.
50:11That will make us run to the table.
50:12We're down the door.
50:22Sitting on the boundary to Geyer National Park,
50:24the village is home to the Maldari and Sidi communities,
50:29who live side by side with free-roaming lions,
50:33crocodiles,
50:34and hyenas.
50:37Oh, wow.
50:39This could be actually pretty bloody cool.
50:48Oh, dear.
50:51My friend, thank you so much.
50:54Here we go.
51:00Find the main road and travel one kilometre by foot.
51:05Or by Chak-do.
51:08Chak-do.
51:09Chak-do.
51:10Chick-a-do.
51:10To the Hiran River Bridge.
51:19We have to find the main road.
51:20It's either that way or that way.
51:22We can either go left,
51:23main road,
51:24left,
51:24left.
51:26Left or right?
51:28Keep looking,
51:28it's almost...
51:29Oh, gosh.
51:32Oh, there's the main road.
51:33The main road there.
51:33Love it.
51:34Let's go straight.
51:35What's he called?
51:35A Chak-do.
51:37Chak-do?
51:38Chak-do?
51:39Chak-do?
51:39Chak-do?
51:40Oh, this might be a Chak-do,
51:42whatever it's called.
51:44Must be another name for a rickshaw.
51:46Is this a Chak-do?
51:48Is this a Chak-do?
51:49Are you a Chak-do?
51:51Oogie Oogie, yes.
51:52Is this this?
51:53What, this is?
51:53Yes.
51:54Do you want to give it a go?
51:55All right.
51:55It's going to be quicker than walking.
51:57Oh, I thought chip-chicks weren't very secure,
51:59but this is something else.
52:01Haran River Bridge.
52:02How much?
52:0350.
52:03Ah, good.
52:0440.
52:05We're in a race.
52:06Get on.
52:06Thank you, 40.
52:07I guess so.
52:08Just climb in.
52:08Take the bag off first.
52:09I can't.
52:12Now we know on a Chak-do, is there, no?
52:14It's a cross between a Harley-Davidson and a Chak-do.
52:19Woo!
52:20Chak-a-doo, chak-a-doo, chak-a-doo, go, go.
52:22Chak-a-doo, chak-a-doo, chak-a-doo, go, go, go.
52:24This is awesome.
52:26You're in a Chak-do.
52:27In the island country.
52:30This is so much fun.
52:32Heerland Bridge.
52:33Watch out for wildlife.
52:38To the bridge, please, yeah.
52:41Look for crocodiles as you go over the river.
52:43Continue on foot across the bridge.
52:52And find the Chak-1 hotel.
52:54The Fern Gear Forest Resort.
52:56Okay.
52:59Ready?
53:00Go.
53:00Let's go.
53:04Oh, Kevin Lyons crossing.
53:06So cool.
53:08One of us crocodiles in the lake.
53:12I've got a wet bum sitting in that Chak-a-bang.
53:14Mine's a bit damp.
53:16Oh, beautiful.
53:17Oh, look at this, Mel.
53:18It won't be far, Mel.
53:19Ton of swamp.
53:24Okay, okay, okay.
53:26Oh, gosh.
53:27I can see it on the left, Mel.
53:30Fern Gear Forest Resort.
53:32Oh, Mum, we're nearly there.
53:33I've got a funny feeling we're going to be bloody last, you know.
53:36Aye, aye, aye, aye, aye, aye.
53:37Aye, aye, aye, aye, aye.
54:07That's the third time, I think, we've been first.
54:09We figured we wanted to keep pace with Tom and Caroline.
54:14And we've actually leapfrogged them, which is great.
54:16Oh, wait.
54:18Hello.
54:19Okay.
54:19Ready?
54:20Oh, my God, I'm shaking.
54:23Oh, my God, I'm shaking.
54:26It's so much better than I thought.
54:28We've only dropped two hours, and that is a big relief to us
54:31because we had a fantastic leg with wonderful experiences.
54:35That's a good sigh of relief.
54:36It's nice to know that we had amazing experiences
54:39without sacrificing too much, and it's all paid off.
54:43Hello.
54:45Namaskar.
54:45Welcome to the Fern Gear Forest Resort.
54:48Ready?
54:50Oh!
54:51Good?
54:54Oh, that's good.
54:56That's good.
54:57That's good.
54:57Oh, wow.
55:00Feeling great.
55:03Got two legs to go so we can catch up.
55:06Yeah.
55:06Because we're actually closer.
55:08Five hours from Brian and Melvin.
55:10Wow.
55:11That's crazy.
55:12Let's go.
55:16She's running.
55:20There it is.
55:21Oh, no.
55:22Oh, no.
55:23Very nervous to open this book.
55:26Oh, wow.
55:29Oh, hello.
55:30Namaste.
55:31Namaskar.
55:32Are you ready?
55:33Yeah.
55:34Oh, please.
55:36Congratulations.
55:37You've successfully reached your sixth checkpoint.
55:40Please sign in over, Leif.
55:41Oh, my gosh.
55:46Oh, wow.
55:47We're an hour behind.
55:49Oh, my God.
55:51Well done, Tommy.
55:53Well done.
55:55How have we done that?
55:56Don't think I've ever been that excited to be last,
55:58because we've caught up the time.
55:59Oh, that's amazing.
56:00That's absolutely amazing.
56:02We've caught up with Tom and Caroline,
56:03who were first by 26 hours.
56:05We've caught up 26 hours.
56:07Only six hours from first.
56:09That's, like, easily doable now for the next leg
56:11to come first or second.
56:13That one leg has saved us.
56:15It's going to be a closer now, definitely.
56:17For the first time since leaving the Great Wall of China,
56:21all teams are within seven hours of each other
56:24as they head into the penultimate leg.
56:27But whilst the time gap tightens,
56:29the budget divide grows,
56:31as Finn and Sean Ed trail behind
56:33with only 21% of their funds remaining.
56:37Wow.
56:37So if we can do what we just did, then, next leg.
56:40Do it again, and again.
56:41And then we win.
56:42Winners.
56:45So I can't scramble with this slot.
56:48Oh, well, fuck it.
56:48Let's go.
56:50This is a totally different side to Ingrid.
56:52So different.
56:54The closer to the finale,
56:55the more competitive I'm getting.
56:57Like, there's no room for error.
