00:00Kicking off this summer season in Newcastle is The Hoppins, returning to the Tawmoor in late June.
00:07Known as Europe's largest travelling fun fair, it features over 100 rides and attractions,
00:12including bumper cars, roller coasters and classic carnival treats, perfect for a fun-filled family day out.
00:19Later in the season, Lost Mines Festival and the nostalgic 90s festival promised Beats and Throwbacks,
00:26Exhibition Park and Leases Park respectively.
00:28But the summer isn't just about the music.
00:32Newcastle is championing free, family-friendly entertainment throughout the city,
00:37both here on the Quayside and at Old Eldon Square.
00:40I caught up with Kitty from N.E. Warner to find out more.
00:44So summer in the city is basically a collection of events and activities that take place over the six weeks holidays in the summer.
00:50So starting from the 21st of July and running up till the 31st of August,
00:53we're running a range of sessions including fitness classes, crafts, yoga sessions, run clubs, storytelling as well,
01:03just all sorts of both adults and children to keep them entertained over the summer.
01:07So we've got loads of returning faces coming this year that were really popular last year.
01:11So we're working with Lululemon again to run some fitness classes and some run clubs.
01:16We're also working with Let's Party again who run kids clubs.
01:19So they're actually bringing a tune takeover to the Quayside.
01:21So if the little one loves football, it's perfect for them.
01:25We're also running storytelling sessions and we're also running kayaking as well right on the tine here.
01:30So they were really popular last year.
01:32So if it's something that you're interested in getting involved in, make sure you put your tickets straight away.
01:36We're also running some new activities as well.
01:39So we're working with little Beethoven's music school to run some classes for kids and learning how to play the ukulele, keyboard,
01:45things like that, which is really fun.
01:47And then we're also working with Bakes by Bess, who is going to be doing some bento box cake decorating as well,
01:53which is a new fun activity for the Quayside as well.
01:55So we've got loads of weekend events as well happening to to complement the weekday events that we've got going on.
02:01So one of them is Dog of the Time.
02:03So last year was the first year that we ran that event and it was hugely popular.
02:07Basically, we had hundreds and hundreds of dogs come over onto the Quayside and take over the area.
02:12So we ran things like dog yoga, which was really cute to watch.
02:15We had market stalls.
02:17We had dog agility and all sorts.
02:19And what we're planning to do this year is actually grow the event.
02:21So we're doing more yoga, more stalls.
02:24And we're also introducing some educational talks as well.
02:26So we'll be bringing in some local experts to talk about grooming tips, training tips, all sorts.
02:30So it's a really fun day.
02:32Even if you don't have a dog, it's a really nice day to come along to and just take in the atmosphere.
02:36So whether it's you want to pop out and do a bit of exercise on your lunch break,
02:40you're trying to keep the kids entertained in the summer, or if you're looking to get your friends together
02:44and just come out and do a fun activity in the evening, there's something for literally everyone this year.
02:49So all the sessions are bookable this year, but everything is completely free to attend.
02:53So if you just head over to our website, which is anywonsummerinthecity.claw.uk,
02:57you'll find all of our events listed there once they're released.
