What the hell was I thinking, having hair like that?
00:03
I'm going to show you some pictures and have to talk about it.
00:07
It's in 1978. You're 41 years old and you're in Cannes for the movie Coming Home.
00:13
What memory do you keep from this edition?
00:15
Right before I came, I worked out with a new teacher very hard.
00:22
It took me 10 minutes to get into a car. I could hardly move.
00:26
I remember that very well. That's all I remember.
00:28
What is your most beautiful memory in Cannes?
00:31
I thought that I was told that they were giving an honorary Palme d'Or to my father
00:38
and I was to make a speech.
00:41
And so I wrote in French a whole speech about my father
00:45
and how great this was that he was getting this.
00:47
But it turned out it was my, I received the honorary Palme d'Or.
00:53
So I felt pretty strange. That was weird.
00:56
But it was a huge, big moment for me to win that.
00:59
What advice would you give to a young woman who wants to be an actress?
01:03
First of all, I would say, how much do you want to be an actress?
01:06
Because it is very hard.
01:08
Millions of people want to be actors.
01:11
Very, very few actually are able to support themselves through acting.
01:16
It has to be a fire in your belly.
01:19
You have to be passionate about it.
01:21
This isn't just about doing a commercial.
01:24
This is about, you have to learn how to enter the skin of someone else very profoundly.
01:33
If that interests you, then find the best teacher that you can find.
01:39
And then after you've gotten a little experience, try to get an agent.
01:44
This was in 2011 in Los Angeles.
01:48
You absolutely look stunning.
01:49
What is your journey to self-worth?
01:52
When I see this picture, I can think of two things.
01:55
My dog, who I had for 17 years and she died.
01:59
And my horrible hair.
02:01
I do not like this photo at all.
02:03
It makes me sad because of my little girl and the hen.
02:06
And the genesis of self-worth, well, I certainly wouldn't feel it looking at that.
02:11
Well, the real genesis is having a mother and a father that love you
02:15
and that let you know that they love you.
02:17
That's where it starts.
02:19
Now, if you don't have that, then you have to work very hard to get self-worth.
02:24
And that's my story.
02:26
What drives the lights on Women's Awards mean to you?
02:29
I'm very grateful to L'Oréal for doing it.
02:32
It's important to encourage young women filmmakers.
02:35
I think it's great.
02:37
How does it feel to be reunited with your fellow global L'Oréal Paris?
02:42
I like it very much, but they've all gone.
02:45
My friends are not here.
02:46
Well, Viola's here, but Andy left.
02:50
I'm always happy to see them, but a lot of them are left already.
02:55
So I'm sad.
02:58
It was in La Fontaine-Rouchard.
03:00
Oui, oui.
03:01
Yes, you're all look at the dogs.
03:02
What memories do you have of France and the life you had in France?
03:07
I loved living in the French countryside.
03:10
You know, you read books, like at that time, I read books about Vietnam, and you would always
03:16
come upon the word Hamlet.
03:17
I didn't ever know what a Hamlet was, but I was living in Hamlets with peasants, French
03:24
peasants.
03:25
It's so great.
03:25
I wish I'd known this before I made some of my movies.
03:29
French farm women, you know, I made friends, and I would go to their homes, and they would
03:34
go to shake hands.
03:35
They would always shake like this, because their hands would be wet, you know, or full
03:40
of something, flour.
03:42
So I spend a lot of time with farmers.
03:48
It was during the Amphar in 2014.
03:53
I hate that dress.
03:54
Why this evening is important for you?
03:56
It wasn't.
03:57
I was told to go.
04:00
I did not enjoy it.
04:01
Curing AIDS and being able to give people medicine that can keep them alive is absolutely critical.
04:10
And Amphar is very good about that.
04:12
I respect Amphar a lot.
04:14
I don't especially like the evening.
04:16
Thank you.
04:17
Thank you.
04:18
Well, that was fun.
