Interrogée par Paris Match lors de son passage à cette 78e édition du Festival de Cannes, l’actrice Jane Fonda, égérie L’Oréal Paris, a confié la clé de son estime d’elle-même.

00:03I'm going to show you some pictures and have to talk about it.

00:07It's in 1978. You're 41 years old and you're in Cannes for the movie Coming Home.

00:13What memory do you keep from this edition?

00:15Right before I came, I worked out with a new teacher very hard.

00:22It took me 10 minutes to get into a car. I could hardly move.

00:26I remember that very well. That's all I remember.

00:28What is your most beautiful memory in Cannes?

00:31I thought that I was told that they were giving an honorary Palme d'Or to my father

00:38and I was to make a speech.

00:41And so I wrote in French a whole speech about my father

00:45and how great this was that he was getting this.

00:47But it turned out it was my, I received the honorary Palme d'Or.

00:53So I felt pretty strange. That was weird.

00:56But it was a huge, big moment for me to win that.

00:59What advice would you give to a young woman who wants to be an actress?

01:03First of all, I would say, how much do you want to be an actress?

01:06Because it is very hard.

01:08Millions of people want to be actors.

01:11Very, very few actually are able to support themselves through acting.

01:16It has to be a fire in your belly.

01:19You have to be passionate about it.

01:21This isn't just about doing a commercial.

01:24This is about, you have to learn how to enter the skin of someone else very profoundly.

01:33If that interests you, then find the best teacher that you can find.

01:39And then after you've gotten a little experience, try to get an agent.

01:44This was in 2011 in Los Angeles.

01:48You absolutely look stunning.

01:49What is your journey to self-worth?

01:52When I see this picture, I can think of two things.

01:55My dog, who I had for 17 years and she died.

01:59And my horrible hair.

02:01I do not like this photo at all.

02:03It makes me sad because of my little girl and the hen.

02:06And the genesis of self-worth, well, I certainly wouldn't feel it looking at that.

02:11Well, the real genesis is having a mother and a father that love you

02:15and that let you know that they love you.

02:17That's where it starts.

02:19Now, if you don't have that, then you have to work very hard to get self-worth.

02:24And that's my story.

02:26What drives the lights on Women's Awards mean to you?

02:29I'm very grateful to L'Oréal for doing it.

02:32It's important to encourage young women filmmakers.

02:35I think it's great.

02:37How does it feel to be reunited with your fellow global L'Oréal Paris?

02:42I like it very much, but they've all gone.

02:45My friends are not here.

02:46Well, Viola's here, but Andy left.

02:50I'm always happy to see them, but a lot of them are left already.

02:55So I'm sad.

03:02What memories do you have of France and the life you had in France?

03:07I loved living in the French countryside.

03:10You know, you read books, like at that time, I read books about Vietnam, and you would always

03:16come upon the word Hamlet.

03:17I didn't ever know what a Hamlet was, but I was living in Hamlets with peasants, French

03:24peasants.

03:25It's so great.

03:25I wish I'd known this before I made some of my movies.

03:29French farm women, you know, I made friends, and I would go to their homes, and they would

03:34go to shake hands.

03:35They would always shake like this, because their hands would be wet, you know, or full

03:40of something, flour.

03:42So I spend a lot of time with farmers.

03:48It was during the Amphar in 2014.

03:53I hate that dress.

03:54Why this evening is important for you?

03:56It wasn't.

03:57I was told to go.

04:00I did not enjoy it.

04:01Curing AIDS and being able to give people medicine that can keep them alive is absolutely critical.

04:10And Amphar is very good about that.

04:12I respect Amphar a lot.

04:14I don't especially like the evening.
