“The Electric House” is a 1922 American silent short comedy film directed by Buster Keaton and Edward F. Cline. The story follows Keaton’s character, a botany student who accidentally picks up an electrical engineering degree certificate. Mistaken for an expert, he is hired to wire a millionaire’s home with modern electrical gadgets. He installs an escalator, automated dining systems, and other mechanical conveniences. However, the real electrical engineer, furious at losing the job, sabotages the wiring, leading to a series of hilarious malfunctions. The film is packed with Keaton’s signature physical comedy and inventive sight gags, including a sequence where he struggles with an out-of-control escalator. Production was delayed after Keaton broke his ankle filming a stunt, and the final version was a complete reshoot.
