00:00Glasgow is to be used as a set for a top-secret movie production in June.
00:04Famed Hollywood director J.J. Abrams, known for working on Mission Impossible 3, Super 8 and
00:09the Star Trek reboot, is embarking on his first new project since 2019's Star Wars release,
00:15with Glasgow set to provide the backdrop. The film will feature rising stars including Glenn Powell,
00:20Janet Ortega, Samuel L. Jackson and Emma Mackay, so you may spot these actors roaming around the
00:26city over the next month. No plot details have been revealed for the ultra-secretive project,
00:31though the Hot Mike podcast did state that Abrams' film will be an 80s throwback,
00:35loosely inspired by The Last Starfighter. The story is set to tackle an author of popular fantasy novels
00:42who reveals that the mythical world he's known for creating is actually real, sending Powell's
00:47character on a quest. J.J. Abrams did visit Glasgow earlier in the year to scout potential filming
00:53locations for the shoot. The film, which is currently untitled, has moved into production
00:58for Warner Bros with a principal base at Leavesden Studios in Watford. Filming will take place in
01:04Glasgow from the 15th to the 22nd of June in a major production involving city centre locations,
01:11including St Vincent Street, Carrigan Street, Pitt Street, Blysewood Square, the whole of John Street
01:16and Bothwell Street. This will result in prohibited vehicle movement in these areas.
