Australian Tax Office whistleblower Richard Boyle has pleaded guilty to four charges, including taping private conversations without consent. The former debt collection officer became an internal whistleblower in October 2017, when he raised concerns about operations in the tax office.

00:15Boyle was originally facing a total of 66 charges relating to the offending in 2017 and
00:212018, but several of those have been dropped over time.
00:24Boyle rose to prominence when he went public with his concerns about the Tax Office, saying
00:29his complaints internally were being ignored.
00:32At the time, he told ABC's Four Corners about the culture at the ATO, which he said included
00:37his area being instructed to use more heavy-handed tactics on taxpayers who owed the Tax Office
00:42money.
00:43Today outside court, supporter and former Senator Rex Patrick said it's been eight long years
00:48for Boyle and that today he should be proud of what he's done for all Australians.
00:52This has been a long saga that's taken a lot out of Richard Boyle.
00:57He should be wearing a big S on his chest as a superhero instead of a conviction.
01:03Boyle is due to be back in court for sentencing submissions in August.
