07:00the gateway to the underworld.

07:02Back in the day,

07:03there used to be giant fangs here.

07:04What happened to them?

07:06They fell off.

07:07That seems logical.

07:25was a cave which Mayans believed humans emerged from.

07:28The Maya believed that humanity came from a cave.

07:31Deep inside of there is what they call the Tree of Life.

07:34And they believed that all of us spawned

07:35from this very majestic, beautiful tree deep in this cave.

07:38It's so sacred that we're gonna do a ceremony

07:40to ask for permission to the spirits of the cave.

07:42If I was a betting man,

07:43I'd say the spirits are gonna reject Nolan.

07:46And as we entered the caves...

07:49This definitely looks sacred.

07:51We were met with the ritual our guide spoke of.

07:57And it's here where we would seek the approval of the gods.

11:13So we headed to our new camp to turn in.

11:15Because not only were we going to need our energy

11:17for the seventh wonder of the world,

11:19but for day four,

11:20I wanted to know what the Mayans did for fun.

11:22Starting with the first ever team-based game

11:25to use a ball.

11:26Over 3,000 years ago,

11:27the Mayans invented the game of pits,

11:29where you score by shooting a ball

11:31through a small hoop,

11:32kind of like basketball.

11:33Only you can't use your hands or your feet.

11:35But remember what we said

11:36all the way back in day two.

11:38The losing captain's head would get cut off.

11:41The head?

11:47Oh, this is hard.

11:48I'd say we're going to get the hang of it.

11:50And although we started to get a handle on the ball,

11:52it's safe to say we were still far from scoring.

11:55So I even brought in our camera guys to help out.

11:57But even then, failure after failure

12:00only brought us countless more failures.

12:08But in ancient times,

12:09giving up meant literally losing your head.

12:13And so failure after failure continued until...

12:25And after a long day of this brutal sport,

12:28the surviving players might have celebrated

12:30by heading down a sinkhole

12:31for a relaxing dip in the natural pools.

12:33And while I'm not cutting any heads off,

12:35Nolan did lose at pits.

12:40You know, it's kind of refreshing.

14:42is a temple so sacred to the locals

14:44that no one is allowed up there,

14:52and all the people who hold this very sacred,

14:54we are not going to touch the temple.
