00:03They swept the Pittsburgh Pirates during rivalry weekend.

00:05They head to Colorado this week for a four-game set.

00:09They win all four of those.

00:11A sweep of the Rockies.

00:132-0 yesterday in the finale.

00:16Ranger Suarez, sensational in Denver.

00:20A couple of RBIs that they needed, including from Bryce Harper and Max Kepler.

00:252-0, the victory for the Phils.

00:27In what was the lowest-scoring game of this four-game set.

00:30But, Donnie, outside of the Phils winning seven straight

00:34and expanding their lead atop the National League East,

00:37I think the main storyline is actually the team that saw another loss.

00:42The Colorado Rockies are now 8-42.

00:46You see it there.

00:46Sell the team.

00:47The paper bags already out in 50 games.

00:508-42 through their first 50 games this year.

00:54That is the worst record in the modern era of Major League Baseball.

00:59Since 1901 for a team in their first 50 games of a season.

01:04Yeah, baseball doesn't work in Colorado.

01:06It's not the players' fault.

01:06It's not the fans' fault.

01:07They come out and show up.

01:08It's a beautiful ballpark.

01:09It's in a great setting at this point.

01:11You just can't play baseball at that altitude.

01:12And baseball whiffs.

01:13And I know they've been there since the early 1990s.

01:16They had some good seasons.

01:17But the bottom completely is falling out.

01:19And also understand this as well.

01:20You're not in a division.

01:21Maybe they can move Colorado to a central division.

01:23Like, hey, we can have low payrolls and still try to compete.

01:26You are in an arms race out there in the NL West that you're probably not going to be able to compete at.

01:30And you might have money to spend.

01:32But once again, you see Herman Marquez on the mound?

01:351-7 on the season with a 7.66 ERA.

01:38Hey, guys.

01:38Money is fantastic.

01:39Come here.

01:40You will be an embarrassment when you retire on your ERA and your wins.

01:44Because we don't have a good organization.

01:46No matter how well you pitch, you can't pitch below a 4 ERA.

01:49It's darn near impossible.

01:50And if you're an average pitcher, you end up around 6.

01:53Sit around the campfire with all your buddies when you're 50 years old and retire and say,

01:57Hey, man, let's tell some war stories.

01:58What was your winning record?

01:59Oh, it was 300 and, you know, 222.

02:02And then, hey, how'd the Colorado guy throw?

02:03Hey, I made a lot of money.

02:05100 games under 500 and a high ERA.

02:07But it was worth it all the while.

02:08It just doesn't work there in Major League Baseball to have it at elevation.

02:12And this is proof.

02:13Like, this is one of the worst teams you will ever see in baseball.

02:15Well, granted, they'll win some games as they go out.

02:18But if you're on a pace to be the worst team of all time, two things aren't working.

02:22Baseball and elevation and your team.

02:24And also, Ben, understand this.

02:25You're a high-ranking pitcher coming out of college baseball.

02:29Let's say Colorado's the number one overall pick.

02:30Hey, congratulations.

02:31You were drafted by Colorado.

02:33You might as well just go, I'm going to pull my name out and do like J.D. Drew did back in the 90s.

02:37I'll go play in the Northern League for a year until I have to get back into baseball.

02:40And hopefully, Colorado, don't you ever pick me again.

02:44J.D., Drew, what a throwback and a great name right there, DRS.

02:48In the Colorado Rockies, I believe the MLB draft now has a lottery.

02:52So there's no guarantee that even if they have a historically bad record this year,

02:56they get that number one overall pick.

02:59Again, we are seeing bad baseball the last few seasons.

03:02The White Sox last year, 41-121.

03:06The worst record ever in the modern era of MLB.

03:10Again, that's since 1901.

03:12It's funny calling it the modern era.

03:14For the NFL, that's 1970.

03:16For the NBA, that's like 1972.

03:19In Major League Baseball, it's 1901.

03:22And we are on track to even outdo how awful the Southsiders were a season ago.

03:298-42 through 50 games.

03:32Donnie, I read a really fascinating article earlier this week about where teams are in

03:37the early going of this MLB season.

03:39And although the Rockies are not great, at least often, even if they're not winning a

03:45ton of games, at Coors Field, they have a good offense.

03:49If you put their home offense up against everybody else because they play at Coors and at

03:54altitude, their run scoring production is top 10, top 5 most years.

03:59Doesn't mean they win every game because the road team can score a ton, and then the Rockies

04:03have to play their other 81 games away from Coors Field.

04:07But they often rank inside the top 10.

04:09This year, they're not even top 15 or top 20 to begin the season, and they were planked

04:14yesterday by Ranger Suarez and the rest of that field staff.

04:17That's the brutal part about it.

04:19You're supposed to at least go out there and have some fun and lose 8-7 every game.

04:22You're just non-competitive on a day-to-day basis.

04:24And I do bring this up because, again, it's not the ownership group to me, per se, and

04:29it's not the fan base.

04:30Like, ah, we're just apathetic.

04:31We don't like baseball here in Denver.

04:32They will show up if they have a winner.

04:34But now you're taking a look at even free agents.

04:36It's just such a quirky environment.

04:38You're not going to get the best town who wants to go there.

04:40That's strike one.

04:41But also now you're looking at agents saying, don't you pick my pitcher because we don't

04:46want him pitching in Colorado.

04:48No other team has to go.

04:49Yeah, people get upset you have to go to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

04:51But at least if you're Paul Skeens, you're like, again, imagine if Paul Skeens went to

04:55Colorado.

04:55He's like, not only do we snake, but my ERA is sick.

04:58Like, I can't even be like rookie of the year.

05:00I can't be up for any Cy Young whatsoever because no matter what I do, I'm at a huge disadvantage.

05:06That's the only sport and the only team that has to go through that.
