00:00The daughter-in-law of senior NCP leader Rajendra Tukaram Hagwane was found dead in
00:04Maharashtra's Mulshi Taluka. 24-year-old Vaishnavi Shashank Hagwane was discovered
00:09on 16 May 2025 at her in-laws' residence. While her in-laws claimed it was a case of
00:15suicide, Vaishnavi's family grew suspicious after noticing ligature marks on her body
00:19and demanded a post-mortem. The hospital report revealed that Vaishnavi died due to
00:23ligature compression of the neck pointing towards strangulation. Doctors also noted
00:28multiple blunt injuries for the strengthening suspicion of foul play. Her parents alleged
00:32that they had given 51 tolas, 5.95 grams of gold, silver and an SUV at the time of her marriage.
00:39Despite this, the Hagwane family allegedly continued harassing her, demanding 2 crore rupees to
00:44purchase land. Following the incident, Rajendra Hagwane and his son, Sushil Vaishnavi's brother-in-law,
00:50were absconding. Amid political backlash, the NCP expelled both Rajendra and Sushil Hagwane
00:55from the party, days after the controversy surrounding the alleged dowry death erupted.
01:00Vaishnavi's husband Shashank Hagwane, mother-in-law Lata Hagwane and sister-in-law Karishma Hagwane
01:05were arrested and produced in court. They were remanded to police custody till 21 May 2025
01:10and police are thoroughly investigating the murder angle.
