00:00We just found what we think is a duck egg, just sitting here on its own.
00:06Should I take it home and try to hatch it?
00:09I think I might buy an incubator and just give it a go.
00:15The egg is in its life support vessel, and now we wait.
00:19Day five, I'm going to have a look and see.
00:25Oh my God. Oh my God.
00:30Oh, it's like so alive.
00:33It's moving. It's moving.
00:34My groveries were twitching.
00:36Oh my God. There's an eye. There's an eye. Do you see the dark dot?
00:41It was torture stopping myself from helping it break out of the egg.
00:45Doing that could be fatal.
00:47I eventually passed out.
00:48Then, 29 hours after the pipping began, this happened.
00:54Oh, wow.
00:57Wow. Hello, baby. Nice to meet you.
01:01Oh my God.
01:03I think I'm going to call him Spike.
01:05Spike. Oh, he's responding to it.
01:07My gorgeous one-day-old rescue duckling is finally ready to leave the incubator,
01:12so I'm going to make the most epic duck digs that ever were.
01:15I'm calling it Duckingham Palace.
01:18My son will not only survive, but he shall thrive.
01:21Number one, mirrors.
01:23Just like the online reports, he started to interact with his sibling.
01:28Two, the surrogate teddy duck.
01:30He looks, learns, and then tries it for himself.
01:33Yes.
01:34My child is a genius.
01:36And three, having some quack.
01:40Mixing in the duck whistle and also ducky sounds on my laptop.
01:44He just felt right at home.
01:46And with his first full belly, it was a hop and a skip to his royal four-poster bed,
01:51and nap time commenced.
01:52My heart is full, and my brain continues to absorb an insane amount of duck information.
01:58There's only so much I can do for him.
02:01He's foraging with me.
02:02He's swimming with me.
02:03But he's not socializing with his own kind.
02:06When he's about eight, nine weeks, he's going to go to the most amazing rehabilitation place
02:11to integrate into a flock, learn how to properly be a duck.
02:17It'll be heartbreaking that we humans are just here to kind of help him along,
02:24but ultimately, he's the master of his own destiny.
02:27He's the master of his own destiny.
02:30He's the master of his own destiny.
02:31He's the master of his own destiny.
