00:00Pro-West independent candidate Nicu Sordane staged a dramatic comeback on Sunday to win the Romanian presidential elections, with a firm 54% of the votes.
00:30Don's hard-right contender George Simeon received 46% of the votes in the unprecedented political thriller, which transfixed and polarized the Eastern European country.
01:30România's choice brings a sigh of relief for the EU, Ukraine, and the Republic of Moldova at a crucial time for all.
01:38But the deep divisions in fractured Romanian society, represented by the small difference in the votes,
01:43mean that future President Dan faces a massive challenge to reunite the country and address the looming economic turmoil gripping Romania.
01:51More than 10 million voters were called this Sunday to choose the 230 members of the Portuguese parliament.
02:05The centre-right AD coalition won again, reinforcing its result of a year ago, although without a majority.
02:12The big surprise of the night was the Socialist Party, which obtained its worst result in 38 years.
02:22Pedro Nuno Santos resigned and guaranteed that he would not run for the Socialist leadership again.
02:30Despite getting more votes, the PS won the same number of seats as Chega, 58.
02:36The liberal initiative surpassed last year's result by electing its ninth MP,
02:41followed by LIFE, which doubled its parliamentary representation.
02:47Another surprise on election night was Juntos pelo povo, which was elected to the National Parliament for the first time.
02:53Com apenas 89 mandatos, a AD não tem condições para formar maioria,
02:59nem com um possível entendimento com a iniciativa liberal, nem com os votos da imigração.
03:04Luís Montenegro terá novamente a vida dificultada,
03:08ficando refém do PS e do Chega para aprovar o próximo programa de governo e futuros orçamentos.
03:16Joana Marão Carvalho, para a Euronews, em Lisboa.

03:30citing a need to enable the expansion of intense fighting.
03:33Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his cabinet was acting at the recommendation of the IDF
03:41to prevent a hunger crisis, which they say would endanger their newest ground offensive.
03:46A leading authority on the severity of hunger crisis said nearly 500,000 Palestinians in Gaza
04:09are already living in catastrophic levels of hunger and face possible starvation.
04:14Food security experts warned last week that Gaza would likely fall into famine
04:20if Israel doesn't lift its blockade and stop its military campaign.
04:26Brussels and London on Monday agreed to new deals on fishing, energy, youth mobility and defence
04:33following marathon talks that concluded hours before the first ever EU-UK summit.
04:39The new deal includes a 12-year agreement allowing EU fishing boats in UK waters
04:45and a new security and defence partnership.
04:49The UK government held the deal, saying it is good for jobs, good for bills and good for the borders.
04:55A joint statement on the agreement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer,
04:59EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Council Chief Antonio Costa
05:04is expected to show common ground on key geopolitical challenges.
05:09For both sides, the summit was initially aimed at showcasing alignment on key global issues
05:15at a time when the post-war multilateral world order is rapidly changing.
05:20Tens of thousands of red-clad protesters marched through the Hague on Sunday
05:29to demand government action to seek a hold to Israel's campaign in Gaza.
05:34Organisers called it the country's biggest demonstration in two decades,
05:39with human rights groups and aid agencies estimating the peaceful crowd at more than 100,000 people.
05:45Protesters walked a five-kilometer loop around the city center of the Hague
05:50to symbolically create the red line they say the government has failed to set.
06:22The march went past the Peace Palace,
06:24where last year judges at the International Court of Justice
06:28ordered Israel to do all it can to prevent death, destruction,
06:32and any acts of genocide in Gaza.

06:52and have said the cancer cells have spread to the bone.
06:55Biden's office added that treatment options are being reviewed with his physicians.
07:00Many political leaders sent Biden their wishes for his recovery,
07:06including former President Barack Obama.
07:09Meanwhile, President Donald Trump posted on social media
07:13that he was saddened by the news and he wishes Joe a fast and successful recovery.
07:18Pope Leo XIV offered a message of love and unity
07:28during his inaugural mass in St. Peter's Square.
07:33During the celebration, he received the Fisherman's Ring
07:37bearing the image of St. Peter, as well as the Papal Palium.
07:41The event, attended by an estimated 200,000 pilgrims, presidents and princes,
07:49marks the beginning of a pontificate which opens with an urgent appeal for global peace.
07:54Non possiamo dimenticare i fratelli e le sorelle che soffrono a causa delle guerre.
08:05A Gaza, i bambini, le famiglie, gli anziani sopravvissuti sono ridotti alla fame.
08:13After Mass, the Pope greeted delegations present inside the Basilica.
08:41He also received Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
08:47Living close to the front line means more than surviving the constant threat of an attack.
08:53It's also a daily battle for basic needs, like medical care.
08:59In war-torn Ukraine, one organization named Dignitas Ukraine is stepping in where clinics
09:06no longer exist.
09:08Now this is where residents live in, in the community of Biskvitne, once a Russian-occupied
09:14area of the Kharkiv region, come for care.
09:18The organization offers medical and psychological support to those, often the elderly or disabled,
09:25who by choice or not have remained.
09:27Co-founder Anna says one of the most important parts of their visit is showing locals they
09:33have not been forgotten.
09:53With limited access to transport and financial resources, Yevina relies on the mobile clinic
09:59to visit her home and help take care of her severely disabled son.

10:10But if another occupation came, the 77-year-old and mother of 13 said she would not leave,
10:16as it takes too much of a toll on her son.
10:44Despite the dangers which include drone attacks, mined roads and extreme weather conditions,
10:51the team works seven days a week, covering 27 communities in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.
10:58Tatiana is one of the volunteer doctors and she says she will work no matter the conditions.
11:05You are used to help people, this is your profession, this is your duty, this is not great words,
11:13this is how it is.
11:14You don't pay attention to the environment, you don't pay attention to their social level.
11:22You have to perform properly, you have to do it. You do it.
11:29Daily bombings have destroyed homes, hospitals and vital infrastructure, leaving residents in a critical humanitarian situation.
11:38But during our time with the volunteers, it was clear that resilience was their only way forward.
11:44Literally?
