00:00Arsenal 1, Newcastle United 0 here at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
00:05A tough one to take for Newcastle United, that one who will feel they were the better team for large spells of that game.
00:12Newcastle United bossed that first half, lots of chances.
00:16David Rhea, the Arsenal goalkeepers, ended up making five scenes inside the opening 20 minutes.
00:21So Newcastle had lots of chances, but it was just a lapse of concentration, a slow start to the second half.
00:28I'd say out of all that game, Newcastle only played bad and really in 10 minutes.
00:33And yeah, it was that 10 minutes about the start of the second half.
00:35Arsenal took the lead, fantastic strike from Declan Rice, take nothing away from that.
00:39But Anthony Gordon, give them the ball away and the build-up to the goal.
00:43So very fine margins here at the Emirates, but Newcastle find themselves on the losing side.
00:48But they can take confidence from that performance.
00:51They were out Alexander Isaac this afternoon, so Callum Wilson led the line.
00:55Callum Wilson, good in the first half an hour, but really faded off that with a suede that game on midway through the second half.
01:01But news on Alexander Isaac felt pain in his cough after training has gone for a scan as a precaution.
01:08And he was unsure if he will be back in time for Everton next week.
01:14Alexander Isaac has been nursing a groin problem for the majority of the season, really.
01:19Obviously missed the Liverpool game in February, has played every game since then, but has been nursing that and just couldn't quite play today.
01:26But will be assessed ahead of next week.
01:27And they need him because Newcastle's right, OK, it's not a big margin or a big group of games to judge.
01:33But four games a season, only one goal scored, no wins.
01:37And that goal score was for Anthony Gordon's opponent against Manchester City.
01:39So they could really do, with their top goal scorer, back 27 goals he scored this season, so they could really do him back against Everton.
01:45They get themselves over the line because, look, they've lost yet a day, but the job very much remains the same.
01:51And they know what they'll have to do.
01:52They beat Everton, it's changed in as part next week.
01:54They'll return to the Champions League, qualify for the Champions League for the second time in three seasons.
01:58So it's still in their own hands.
02:01Win today, they would have gone up to second.
02:02But I think talk like that would have been brilliant for Newcastle to go and do that.
02:05But the only thing that matters is that they go and finish in those top five places and they've got a job to do next week.
02:13Yeah, injuries have started to hit Newcastle at sort of the wrong time.
02:16But Everton at home, tough.
02:20It's not an easy game.
02:21It's the type of game that Newcastle can't struggle in.
02:24Teams like Everton can't frustrate Newcastle.
02:27But the incentive is so big.
02:29And, yeah, they go there and they go back to St. James' Park next week.
02:33Atmosphere, I'd expect, would be bouncing and hopefully Newcastle can get over the line.
02:38But it would have been nice if they could have done it a day, moved up to second, had that to play for.
02:42But they couldn't do that.
02:43Tough place to come this evening at the best of times.
02:46So the job remains at hand, beat Everton, and they're in the Champions League.
