00:00Good evening. Hope you're having a great Saturday night. Welcome back to My View. In 2018,
00:06President Donald J. Trump did what Washington said was impossible. He broke through decades
00:11of political gridlock and signed the First Step Act into law, the most significant federal
00:17criminal justice reform in a generation. It was a landmark bipartisan moment, proving what we
00:24already knew. When this president says he'll fight for the forgotten men and women of this country,
00:29he means it. Fast forward just a few years later, and the same justice system
00:34that President Trump once reformed was weaponized against him. It was twisted to punish political
00:40opponents. And yet, rather than walk away from the issue, President Trump is doubling down.
00:46The president is appealing his conviction, but some have put it bluntly. Donald Trump could run
00:52for president, but under current laws, he couldn't sell real estate or serve a drink.
00:58So if the American people believe he deserves a second chance, shouldn't we extend the same
01:03opportunity to thousands of ex-offenders trying to rebuild their lives? President Trump gets it.
01:09And that's why, in a second term, he's ready to finish what he started. He's expanding on the
01:15First Step Act's success. The more than 44,000 people released with a recidivism rate that's just
01:21a fraction of what we see in the broader prison population. Thousands of retroactive sentencing
01:26reductions, compassionate releases, and elderly transfers to home confinement. Real lives changed
01:33and real communities made safer. The president still has his work cut out for him. Outdated probation
01:40rules are trapping low-risk people in government red tape, while the left allowed real threats to go
01:46unchecked. But Donald Trump is tough on crime. And tough enough to fix a broken system.
01:53It's about protecting victims, punishing offenders, and giving those who've paid their debt
01:59a shot at redemption. That's the America we're fighting for.
02:03And that's the justice legacy President Trump is ready to finish.
