00:43Then we have joshua dirksen became the first podium finisher for paraguay here last year
00:47He's alongside kush mining who had his lap time deleted for bringing out the red flag roman stanek is a winner here in formula
00:533 back in 2022
00:55He's alongside pepe marty who came from 11th to a win at bahrain
00:59Then we have dino beganovich will be on the front row tomorrow alongside sebastian montoya
01:04Victor martin's missed out on that pole position by seven thousandths of a second
01:08Leo fornaroli took a podium in formula 3 here last year
01:12Then it is alex dung going very well this season two podiums a podium and a top step for arvid limblad as well
01:19Two drivers in search of their first formula 2 win
01:21Can they do it luke browning and ollie girtha who was one here before in formula 3 and then we come to the front row
01:28Jack crawford for dams lucas oil eighth in the championship
01:32He just missed out on victory at jeddah on the final lap from richard for sure
01:36And then we have ritomo miyata who hasn't been in the top eight as alex said so hasn't got a point to his name
01:43a big challenge ahead of them and
01:46Probably the biggest challenge alex is going into the unknown with those soft tires around this circuit
01:50Yeah tire degradation is an issue. It's also a really long run down to tamburello over
01:56550 meters the run down towards the first time they'll hit the brake pedal
02:01So that gives drivers a lot of jostling to do to try to maintain position
02:06It's a difficult racetrack to overtake on after that. So expect a feisty first two or three corners
02:13for these formula 2 drivers
02:15It certainly will be a really great fight out the front ritomo miyata has a really tough task on his hands to
02:22Hold off the likes of jack crawford to hold off the likes of
02:26Girtha browning limblad who's been on the top step of the podium as has alex done as well
02:31We've got 25 laps of action coming up and on the front of it a driver who's in search for his first formula 2 win
02:38Ritomo miyata and we caught up with him after qualifying yesterday
02:45Yeah
02:47Yeah to be honest
02:48uh
02:49Very long time ago my start from pole position in my career, maybe five years ago
02:55so long time see, um pole position, so
02:59I really
03:00looking forward to fight good position because um
03:03last year I only
03:05Two times the top three from start the
03:09I know only one time the abu dhabi
03:11But anyway, you know I can start from good position so
03:15I will be enjoy and uh, let's fight to winning or you know podium
03:22Ritomo miyata, I think knows that there's a big task on his hands
03:25We're gonna have drs just down towards tamburello, uh, alex after the first laps complete
03:30That's going to be a key part of this race staying within it or escaping it single drs zone here definitely
03:36Prevents overtaking a little bit and we've also got potential for rain in the air
03:4220 at the moment teams are going to be keeping half an eye on that
03:46But miyata must think he has a huge opportunity here
03:49It's one of the tougher venues to get past throughout the whole year the main danger for him
03:53Down towards turn one and then of course as we always see drivers do he'll be working on getting that critical one second gap
04:01To prevent drivers behind him picking up the drs great opportunity as well for redemption for jack crawford the american express looking for his first
04:10race victory
04:11Of the year and it's been a difficult start to the season for dams
04:15This is a great opportunity both. He and mining was strong mining, of course losing that lap
04:21To bringing out the red flag, but they've had much more pace here in imola than at previous races
04:26Dino knows his day is going to come tomorrow. He is going to be starting there on 10th though
04:31But we'll still want to move forward. We've got the toyota back driver
04:35Of retoma miyata and aston martin's jack crawford alongside him on the front row
04:40Primer racing ready to watch on can they see the likes of sebastian montoya and gabriele mini move forward?
04:48He's starting down in p15 montoya p9
04:51It looks like we are set for 25 laps of racing here at imola for round two of the fia formula 2
04:58Championship to the left of screen is jack crawford to the right of screen retoma miyata
05:04We are go and the race to tamburello begins and it looks like an even start
05:08Off the front row of the grid jack crawford will feel he has the opportunity to take the lead away from miyata
05:14And that's exactly what he's done crawford into the lead of the race
05:18And it looks like limblad is taking positions as well
05:21The red bull jr has gone into third place and then comes the williams back driver of browning as they make their way
05:28Down towards vilna for the first time. It's limblad forward. It's girth of backwards. He's really struggling
05:33Look, there he is being challenged by the mclaren jr and shoveled wide by dunn through the mid corner of vilna
05:39We got contact further back as well. One of the alpines is off there and a red bull jr going with them
05:44So out of tows as we go, we know it's crawford leading from miyata
05:48Then it's limblad then it's browning then it's martin's the two williams back drivers
05:52And gabriele mini is the driver that's in trouble sammy megatunif likewise
05:57So a disaster start for the italian megatunif hasn't got off the line
06:00He's being pushed back into the pit lane as we speak and as the field make their way through aguaminarale
06:06But it is crawford who's made his way to the lead
06:08There's megatunif trundling to the end of the pit lane after a disastrous start having to have the car fired back up
06:15Winner here in formula 3 last year and a disaster start for sammy megatunif
06:19All he can hope for is a safety car in this race now as moves being made further back pepe marty
06:26On a bit of a recovery job. He was the red bull jr
06:29I think in a little bit of trouble there and he's now trying to recover in this race
06:33Now making contact through the exit of the bilnov chicane trying to pick out
06:36Uh richard bashoor who's made his way up to at least 15th place
06:42At the beginning of this one and still trying to make his way forward as they scream across the line the first time
06:47It is going to be limblad who's under pressure from browning down towards tamburello browning having a think about a move down the inside
06:53Of his countryman arvid limblad out of tamburello we go and now down towards vilna
06:58This a great fight crawford trying to break drs. It is enabled now next time they head down to tamburello
07:05We will have drs enabled and you have to be within a second to use it championship lead up in his mp
07:1116th it is that bashoor managed to climb his way up to from 19th on the grid a disastrous qualifying session
07:17Stopped early as a result of the red flag browning still having a look down the outside of piratella
07:23It'll be a brave move there around the outside
07:25He goes but limblad just hustling to hustling him to the outside of the circuit and this has opened an opportunity for victor martins
07:33As they head down to aquaminerale all of this allowing the top two to escape them to junior williams drivers linus turn
07:42With regards to overtaking there's just not enough width of track down into aquaminerale
07:48Both clamber all over the curbs in the mid corner and it looks like luke browning's safe for now
07:53Down towards rivazza. We go and here we can see browning now under pressure
07:59He was once the one attacking limblad
08:01He's now going to have to be aware as drs comes open here down to tamburello that he's got victor martins just behind then it is
08:08Alex dunn leo fornaroli next last of the point scorers at this stage would be joshua dirksen as they fire past the pitbull 0.956
08:17The gap between miata and crawford at the front so crawford's not been able to escape the drs
08:22in the early stage of this race miata
08:25Clinging with his art to the rear of the american and keeping himself in the action here looking over the rear wing of limblad
08:32This is the battle we've seen browning behind and the williams junior liveried machine of victor martins who thought he could be on pole
08:40Yesterday if it wasn't for the red flag
08:42He really believed that he had the qualifying performance and will be looking to move forward into the top three positions today
08:48Looking back at the race start then it was a relatively even start out front
08:52They're the stall from sammy megatune of causing him to be pushed
08:56Back behind the barrier returning to the front of the field bit of wheel spin for miata
09:00There it is a shimmy of the tail and that's what would cost him on his way down to tamburello
09:05Crawford comes to the inside and just claims the road on his way in limblad's the driver
09:11Making his way around the outside of luke browning there in a fantastic start from fifth on the grid and then a little bit further
09:18Down we saw contact here's alex dunne mclaren junior driver blocked path a little bit on his way in
09:25He's going around the outside of girth today. He makes contact look a little bit with the rear of victor martin's car
09:32This was then the run into villeneuve
09:34And this is where we saw pepe marty getting to a little bit of trouble on the exit the second of the red bull juniors
09:40side by side
09:43We're getting together
09:48So, uh, you are on board
09:51with uh
09:53gabriele mini
09:55There we go. And uh the the car that we just heard the radio from is to our left hand side and slightly behind
10:01So pepe marty feeling like he's been run out of road there on the outside of the villeneuve chicane
10:06And that means the top two in the championship are 16th and 17th championship leader ahead of second
10:12In the championship not what we expected
10:15But that is the unpredictability of formula two and there they are in shop orange mp leading red bull jr. Dodging a safety car though
10:22um from all of those little incidents in the early stages of the race miyata just now falling outside drs of
10:30Crawford which put him in contention for the drs of linvlad and potentially vulnerable
10:36To linvlad but this now going to be a race of who can manage the tire best it was around
10:43I'm going to play that off here
10:45It was around 18 or 20 laps where the tire really started to fall away throughout free practice the circuit
10:52Around the same temperature 33 degrees on track falling all the time with this little bit of cloud cover
10:58So they'll be expecting a similar longevity to the tire perhaps even more
11:03Because the racetrack is slightly more rubbing in now than it was in the early stages of the weekend
11:08And you can get the benefit of drs here
11:10So I guess it's a case of just managing your tires through the rest of the lap and just making sure you're within that one
11:16Second here
11:16We see sebastian montoya trying to pick up a place and get towards that top eight where the points are being handed
11:23sebastian montoya all over the back of oliver
11:26One of the beneficiaries of the red flag in qualifying said he lost out to the red flag in jeddah
11:32So feels uh entirely
11:34Entirely happy that he picked up positions as a result of the red flag yesterday
11:38It was a really good lap for montoya
11:40He's looking down the outside of the veal nerve chicane not enough overlap to be able to make the position on his way in
11:46i'm quite able to get through pepe marty in the red bull junior in the red bull livery under pressure now from
11:52John bennett as well. It is very congested in the field as they fire out at oza and make the climb uphill
12:00Towards ferritella
12:02Sebastian montoya trying to go forwards and there we see behind the likes of villa gomez
12:07He's putting max esteson under pressure in the orange of black van emerson
12:11Marty mini been noted for causing a collision on on the exit of the veal nerve chicane
12:17So we'll see it on the graphics and on the time which means if anything comes of that
12:23All relatively stable some drivers playing the waiting game throughout this phase
12:28Able to just stick and now just creep back in
12:31To the drs of crawford the team at dams may well be on the phone to crawford
12:35Just letting him know that that's playing out
12:38So if there is management going on right at the front of the field
12:41Let's try and eke out that a little bit more of a gap to not allow miata to
12:46Use the drs to manage the tire and still keep himself in the action
12:51And and thus gain a march on the american towards the end of the race
12:55Someone who hasn't been waiting around is joshua dirksen. We saw the
12:58Graphic to the left of who had been gaining and losing positions beside the drivers and josh dirksen is up six places
13:06Now in this race here there we see the gap between himself and beganovich. He's probably wondering how on earth he's behind
13:14Joshua dirksen. He's got leo fornaroli next up the road
13:17So joshua dirksen who got his first formula 2 podium here last year climbing himself up the order 14th from the grid this time around
13:24for aix joshua dirksen
13:28Very good start indeed, wasn't it?
13:31Dirksen sitting just behind that car
13:33On the airbox of dina beganovich as he plunges down towards aqua minerali
13:40Really have to back out of it
13:46Talking about straight line speed of the car ahead and beganovich
13:51then
13:52saying
13:54Not able perhaps bemoaning the inability to be able to make a move down that front straight really the only overtaking opportunity here
14:02Down towards tamburello unless the driver ahead of you makes a mistake
14:05Miata has managed to get himself back inside the drs. So a key moment here with crawford being unable
14:13To to escape from the two behind there. You can see the two drs flaps open
14:16So they're keeping themselves in the action and in turn miata towing linvlad up to the leader
14:22Yeah, it was very close wasn't it it was about five hundreds away
14:26From miata losing drs and that would become a critical point of the race
14:31Because the gap has gone from nine tenths to six tenths of a second just like that had that not happened
14:37He would be under huge pressure from this driver here. I'll admit
14:40About three or four tenths down the front straight. The last thing those two want to do is start fighting between themselves and lose ground

14:50Waiting game being played sitting on board with arvid linvlad
14:54Let's watch that right front through piratella. See if he's
14:58Just managing it. See how he's limiting the amount of steering he's putting into the car to try to keep the tires
15:05Underneath it i'm saying a few moments ago how much kickback there is through the steering wheel for these formula 2 drivers
15:10They bounce over the kerbs
15:13Down into agua minerale drivers working hard suspension hardly working it seems on the way
15:19into that famous section of track
15:22Campos racing very relaxed their driver arvid linvlad in third. There could be an argument that they're half they're
15:28Quite pleased that miata is probably staying within that drs
15:31But now and if they're going to play the long game in this race
15:34They just want things to stay close as they are until we start to get deeper in the race
15:38It's a case of being unable to follow as well
15:41Even though they're not the fastest corners, uh through that middle sector of the lap
15:47another time by
15:48lap eight
15:50Of 25 the drs train running all the way back into the mid teams here
15:55And it's b it was one of the closest, uh qualifying sessions i've ever seen for the for the pole
16:02position spot in formula 2 a bit truncated
16:06By the red flag some drivers feeling they were on a better lap and they lost out such as the nature
16:12Of these sessions. That's why drivers do a banker lap in the early phases of qualifying but a bit of a mixed up grid
16:19On a race weekend where it is tough
16:22To make the moves a narrow track a bumpy track and you do stand to lose a nose or damage a little bit of suspension
16:29If you uh, if you head
16:32Down the inside of a driver who's not seen you here
16:35Marty and minnie will be investigated after the race for that little bit of turn one contact
16:41So that one will be one to keep your eyes across the sofas for yeah
16:45Understandable given their position. I mean
16:48We've had now four pole sitters in four races four different
16:52Five different winners in five races and we've got our two championship leaders 16th and 17th
16:57And there is your championship leader right up for you on screen
17:00I guess is this showing just how?
17:03Competitive unpredictable this formula team season is turning out. I know we're only on race one around four, but
17:10There's no clear driver running away with this title in the early stages different cars and teams certainly
17:15Being able to perform at different rounds. I think richard for sure will really chalk this one up
17:21As a weekend, we just hasn't had the pace so far
17:25Of course, there are pit stops to play with throughout the feature race, but wasn't there in practice wasn't there in qualifying?
17:31And he's still not really able to charge through the field in the race despite having a decent start. So
17:38It's a shame for sure and it's an opportunity for his competitors that he looks extremely unlikely to score today
17:45And and barring an excellent strategy in the feature race tomorrow. It's going to be difficult as well
17:52Part of a triple header though. Is that going to have a knock-on effect?
17:56Do you have a bad round here?
17:57Can I have a knock-on effect going into the likes of monaco and barcelona?
18:00Because they come very quickly monaco's its own animal monaco's its own animal special for these formula 2 drivers to be able to race there
18:07so
18:09Trust me
18:10The bumps and curbs of piratella will be forgotten when they're replaced with the walls and armpits of tobacco
18:16And it's a special duel in the crown of the series battle between uh, the red bull jr
18:21On pollock girth and kushmani brought out the red flag in qualifying is what we're checking in on
18:29Just outside the point
18:33It is and we ride up on with kushmani now who will feel a little bit disappointed
18:37He's not sat on the front row today and battling with his teammate jack crawford, but he's recovering
18:43Today kushmani just outside the top 10 and proved yesterday. He's got the pace
18:48Let's see if he can move forward in this one
18:50Meanwhile, joshua dirksen is under threats coming under threat a little bit more now in that silver high tech
18:56That is ferrari backed dino biganovich this you feel is the closest he's been now for a while and it's starting to look like joshua
19:03Dirksen, he's just beginning to fall away from leo fornaroli. This could be
19:07a battle emerging here between these two
19:10long run down there not a huge opportunity for the ferrari junior who
19:15will
19:17Definitely have noticed the amount of red in the stand this weekend on his way in
19:22To the racetrack on his way out of the racetrack the support from the devote to vote to here as in monza is absolutely massive
19:30Closest battle on the track. I think for the key position is going to be miata versus limblad crawford escaping ever
19:36So slightly limblad's looked feisty brilliant start from him up from fifth
19:41To run third on the road in his campus
19:44He's escaped browning which will give him a little bit more focus forwards and only half a second now can sit there
19:50In the dirty air of miata as they clamber over the valley anti-alta this time around and that's the opportunity potentially for him
19:59Back to the rear wing of miney looking back at girth
20:02Who was probably the biggest loser in the starting process started third on the grid?
20:07Dropped all the way down to 12th position in what was really an opportunity lost in the early laps
20:14While we go through the revat section and now miata will not have drs. So this is the opportunity
20:21Arvid limblad is lining up the art driver. Can he make his move in towards tamburello?
20:26We go it's going to be down the inside there from arvid limblad on the brakes
20:31Miata is brave around the outside and just holds on but now it's the rundown to vilna
20:35Ah, not quite the overlap for arvid limblad miata manages to hold on to it around the outside and limblad will now have to wait
20:42One lap more before the opportunity again
20:45But the more they battle the more miata will slip it into reverse away from jack crawford and the better the opportunity
20:53It's going to be for limblad looking again at this midfield battle over the rear wing of miney
20:58Are we going to see a mistake for the dams driver alpine jr down to aguaminarale?
21:04Not a huge one, but that could easily damage a tire for later on in the race unloaded inside front locks up and
21:11Miney ever so slightly wide
21:13But it is going to be that battle for a second position on the road
21:17Which is going to be the thrilling one john bennett felt he lost out in qualifying
21:20He's lost out again through the mid corner of ravazza with a big lock up there having to learn this circuit this weekend john bennett
21:28It's going to be a pattern for him throughout the season. Well miata
21:32No drs limblad will feel he has to get this move done quickly as alex said because that gap will just continue to grow
21:38Otherwise and browning now begins to move closer as well
21:42He's got the fastest lap in this race down to tamburello
21:45We go is this going to be the moment we see the change for second half and four tenths a very close gap
21:51Limblad a little bit closer this time than he was last lap around
21:54Are we going to see arvid limblad move into second place here? He finds a gap on the inside
22:00He goes down it and that is going to be second place game for arvid limblad
22:04About 75 percent of a move last time round turns into a hundred percent this time for arvid limblad
22:09Nothing, we'll have to do about that. We're side by side through tamburello at the back end of the points
22:15That's sebastian montoya looking at uh, we're looking at but it's uh girtha who went through on miney
22:21Olly girtha with a great move there down the inside
22:25To go by kush miney and sebastian montoya next to try and get through so great overtaking
22:31From olly girtha. He's gone well around here in the past
22:35Limblad now threw up the road though, but the gap 2.1 seconds
22:39So he's had to sacrifice six tenths of a second to the leader and making that move
22:43Next to try and make the move is the driver. We're looking at williams back driver luke brown
22:47It is all in the move though. You can see it there in the first sector
22:51The amount of time that limblad lost so let's see what kind of pace he's got now if he can home towards crawford
22:59Uh in these in the second phase of this race
23:02It'd be really interesting to see now miata gonna be under pressure from luke browning in the high tech
23:08He's really beginning to struggle ritomo miata. All the place is just beginning to grow. It's uh,
23:13Possibly a mixture of both here as they come out of the final corner now out of rivazza, too
23:19And down to tamburello and luke browning should go sailing by here
23:23He's right on the back of ritomo miata luke browning looking to get himself into the podium positions
23:29He makes his way to the outside on the brakes
23:32He goes to ritomo miata, but miata with that drs to limblad is just able to hold his position for now
23:38Hung on to it by a thousandth of a second as montoya looks the inside on miney
23:42He looks to be struggling slightly, uh with the tire a thousandth of a second was a different
23:47Um to to pick up the drs from miata kept him out of trouble, uh down towards turn one
23:52But if you look to the left of your screen on the interval, uh, he's just dropped out of it
23:56So it should be an easier move next time around, uh for the williams jr
24:01In the high tech and miata perhaps suffering a bit from having to run
24:06Or trying to stay with jack crawford in the early laps of the race burning up
24:10Maybe a little bit too much tire in doing so dino
24:13Biganovich has been putting pressure on joshua dirksen for a long time
24:18And now dirksen has lost drs to fornaroli up the road alex dunn has lost drs
24:25Did so a few laps ago to the leading pack if we can call it that the chasing pack
24:30Uh being led by arvid limblad. So, uh, alex dunn under pressure from the likes of fornaroli
24:35Then this group always dino biganovich runs wide and he's going to lose a place
24:39Uh, well all his hard work becomes undone
24:41He was looking like he was about to get a move done on joshua dirksen and now he goes backwards
24:46Uh going back
24:47behind roman stanek
24:49Messy moment for tomorrow's pole sitter
24:51Is that the beginning of the tire starting to fall away from these cars? They were in the 30s
24:58To begin this race and there we go. Then this is the move
25:01This is browning making his way around the outside of miata luke browning gets the move done on ritomo miata
25:07And that is third place for the high-tech driver
25:11Broke him down over the course of a few laps there
25:14And ritomo miata eventually losing the drs and luke browning was able to execute that move around the outside
25:20And on the brakes to get himself into the podium places
25:23However, another williams driver is now going to be in the fight and looking for a podium place
25:29His name is victor martins and there he is
25:32We look at him now as we make the climb to piratella they're queuing up and taking a ticket now
25:37And victor martin's ticket will say, uh will say third place on it. Let's have a look what happened to the ganovich
25:43this is the uh, grubby moment through the exit of uh, turn
25:48Of the valianti alta just gets himself a little bit too wide picks up the throttle
25:54And drives it with pure understeer
25:57out onto the
25:58outside gravel
26:00Losing the place then to roman stanek
26:03Yeah, real shame there for dino beganovic but roman stanek now has the chance to fight for points
26:09That's the last point available, which joshua dirksen currently has okay down to ravazza. We go
26:16We are looking at victor martins versus ritomo miata
26:19They may be in different liveries, but they are the artgrand prix teammates
26:24They're going to come around the corner now and to tamburello and ritomo miata has lost drs. Did he just hang on to it?
26:30I think he did but victor martins is right behind him down to tamburello
26:34We go are we going to see a move for victor martins this time?
26:37There he goes down the inside now and victor martins looking to get this move done and he's done it
26:43The frenchman is up to fourth place text, but brave stuff on the brakes
26:47from martin's miata very fair with him there thought he might hang on to it as a result of
26:52Keeping the drs to browning ahead at the overspeed but victor martin's just too great and miata
26:58On the limit of falling of looking like this is a slide through the field now
27:03Having taken the best out of those tires early on dunn will be the next up and trying to pick up fifth position
27:10Great move from victor martins. He's up to fourth, but he's lost
27:141.1 seconds now to browning. That's the gap. He has to try and chase down dunn did say he's going to play the long game
27:20Remember he lost he was two seconds back from this queue
27:24And all of a sudden that gap is evaporating he's only eight tenths back from these guys now is this
27:31a sign of that
27:33Dunn's patience paying off here. I think we're starting to see him come back into this fight for the podium
27:38Drivers in these long drs trains get locked in to the performance of the cars around them. Let's have a look at what's going on
27:46between montoya
27:49and the alpine junior have
27:52Uh
27:53Miney as they head down towards tamburello. That's the move then
27:57Uh made by montoya. He was uh, he's back
28:02Behind. No, he's not. He's made his way through on the gps graphics. We need the time screen to update montoya with that move done
28:11We need to up the pace a bit if we can do
28:14Seven
28:15Looking at the long game out front. I'll be bling black has just taken a couple of tenths out of corkwood last time around
28:22That's why browning is getting a hurry up browning with a 31 7. It was a 31 2
28:27For limb black last time around who caught crawford by two tenths
28:32It's uh, it's not exactly bridging the gulf
