00:00Welcome back to Ireland in View. When you're rushing around Ireland trying to see everything,
00:07you sometimes miss the things in plain sight you shouldn't ignore. Let's try and show you what we
00:12mean. How would you like to see our eight best small and not so well-known towns in Ireland
00:17that you should visit? A few of these locations are hidden gems. Come with us to this beautiful
00:22spot on the causeway coast, a sleepy little town with one of the best two-mile-long surfing beaches
00:28in Ireland, Port Stewart. It has one of the best links golf courses on the north coast and on the
00:35promenade, the famous Morelli's ice cream parlor, which has served generations with cozy pubs like
00:41the Anchorage complex. Entry to the two-mile strand by car costs eight euro in summer and four in
00:49winter. It's a surfer's paradise owned by Britain's National Trust. Number two on the list is Porta
00:56Ferry in County Down. Just under 3,000 people live here. Access it by Strangford Ferry from the
01:02South or by a scenic drive down the Strangford Lough coastline. The Porta Ferry Hotel with a great
01:08history overlooks the Lough. Visit the fabulous Explorers Aquarium and Mount Stewart Gardens.
01:14Strangford is the small friendly town across the water. From there, you can drop over to walk at the
01:20Spelga Dam in the Mourne Mountains or visit Warren Point, which has some fabulous restaurants.
01:25Ramy's Seafood and Grill is highly recommended, as is the Whistledown Hotel right on Warren Point
01:30Seafront. Next, we cross the border into the Republic of Ireland, and half an hour's drive
01:35off the M1 motorway is Carlingford. This small gem has been missed by so many people. It's a favorite
01:42place for a Sunday drive for northerners the rest of the week. Visitors have it to themselves.
01:47Quaint narrow streets with a tea room walled gardens, small cozy pubs, and live entertainment in
01:54Mawbakers is a must-do. Kayaking, sailing, and fishing in abundance. By the way, we have Irish

02:13part of Ireland, so you are sure to find something useful. Leaving Carlingford just over an hour and a
02:20half's drive, Dublin is calling. But beyond Dublin is Hoth, a commercial fishing town where boating
02:26plays a huge part of life. Superb award-winning restaurants dedicated to food from the sea.
02:32You will be spoiled for choice. There are two golf courses and a hill park with views over the Irish
02:38coast and the famous Bailey Lighthouse. What better place to relax and soak the tranquility? A hiker's
02:45paradise. Cozy pubs like the Abbey Tavern where parts of the building date back to
02:50the 16th century. Day trips are organized by Big Bus in Dublin and the Dart also gets you there.
02:57Links as always in the description. Next on our travels is Dalkey. Sitting close to the Kalini
03:02Hill walking trails is a well-preserved heritage town with a 14th century townhouse castle where
03:09professional actors in costume entertain. Booking is advised. Dalkey is the home of the stars like Bono,
03:15Van Morrison and Enya. Many actors and musicians have made their home here over the years. You may bump
03:22into them anywhere on this quaint town's narrow streets. Some very good pubs and restaurants and
03:27beautifully presented shops. On a beautiful day there are people sitting in the sun enjoying the
03:33atmosphere. For Walker's Kalini Hill nearby has some spectacular views from the Oblast over the Irish
03:39Sea and the Hinterland. Fitzpatrick's Castle Hotel is the place to stay and you can get there by the dark
03:46train on the Wicklow line. In the harbour on Colomore Road boat trips are organized to Dalkey Island a small
03:53uninhabited island off the coast. Leaving Dublin and Dalkey we are heading to the southwest but on the way
04:00two places worth visiting. One is a small town or more aptly a village close to Kilkenny called Inishtig
04:07nestling in the Noor River Valley. The Woodstock Arms is the place to stay and the Woodstock estate
04:13and the room with a view in the Woodstock hiking trail. As a walker you will enjoy. For breathtaking scenery
04:20and friendly locals it's a place to visit. Woodstock house sadly burnt down in 1922 during the Irish
04:26Civil War though still standing and there is now a large garden and horticulturals display in the
04:33surrounding grounds. Leaving Inishti we drive south to the town of Cashel and stop off in the Rock of
04:39Cashel. Once the home of the High Kings of Munster dating to the fourth century. High crosses and a
04:45well-preserved round tower are testament to the Office of Public Works who manage the site. A site worth
04:51stopping at on your journey south. From here let's go to our favorite counties of all. Cork,
04:56and Kerry. The small fishing port of Kinsale has a beauty all of its own where food and culture come
05:02together to make a small town like no other. You are spoiled for choice with restaurants and small
05:07craft shops. Charles Fort built by the British Army to protect the coast against the French in the 1800s
05:12overlooks the bay. Sailing is a big part of Kinsale as is commercial fishing. Just outside the town is
05:19one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The Kinsale Hotel and Spa. The Blue Haven is great for food and
05:25sitting in the sun outside watching the world go by. A lot of visitors enjoy. Kinsale is a 30-minute
05:31drive from Cork Airport and within easy reach of Shannon Airport. Our next small town nestled at the
05:38bottom of the Ring of Kerry has to be visited. As a base to explore the Ring of Kerry can't be beaten.
05:44The Ring of Kerry is more than a road trip. It has unique places along the way like Car Daniel and
05:50Derenane Beach that beg you to stay longer. Only one day driving it gives only a superficial view.
05:56It needs way more time. Kenmare itself has some small craft shops, beautiful restaurants and the
06:02pubs are so much fun. Peter Crowley's we recommend. Lots of places to stay from the park hotel to small
06:09bed and breakfasts and Airbnb. Finally we reach Dingle. Dingle has to be on every visitor's bucket list.
06:16It's friendly people, restaurants and quaint old world pubs and historic sites everyone wants to
06:22visit. Sleahead Road is a breathtaking vista and the beehive homes like those found on Skellig Michael
06:28really are worth seeing. We can recommend a great Airbnb, a short walk close to the town. Links as
06:35always in the description. That's it for our pick of the best scenic small towns in Ireland. We hope
