Halemaʻumaʻu crater at Kīlauea volcano in Hawaii began its 22nd eruptive episode at 5:13 a.m. local time. Lava fountains reached heights of up to 300 meters (1,000 feet) from the northern vent, following gas pistoning events and lava overflows during the early morning hours.
