01:14But with Goodman it looks like he's already pushing the pace and he wants to bring the action straight away.

01:33He had those awful false starts for the undisputed fight with the cut.

01:58He's sharp and having watched his previous fights, Varga, he doesn't just come and brawl.

02:16And he's doing all of that in the early stages here against the high quality Sam Goodman.

28:32Maybe he needs to lift the intensity. And he strides out to meet Australia's Sam Goodman,
28:42still ranked number one in the world with the IBF, and very eager for something big
28:49to follow on the back of the victory he is chasing here tonight. And the Mad Bunch get
29:00behind their man. They wanted to support him in Tokyo in December or January, as it turns
29:07out, as he takes a really strong shot there with a left hand. Varga's had his moment.
29:14Sam Goodman felt that one. Cesar Varga, the Mexican. He's got some pop, this Mexican.
29:20A surprise shot. It got through. Down goes Goodman. Well, it's called a slip, that one.
29:30But Cesar Varga has his moment now. There's damage around the eye. I think it might be
29:40underneath that same eye for Goodman. But worse than that, he was hurt by that shot.
29:49Now he's slipping and sliding as well. And this will take something in terms of composure
29:57and presence of mind and experience from Goodman. Because Cesar Varga has had the moment he's
30:05been chasing, and he wants more of it. Goodman responds well there. Jabbing. Varga just trying
30:18to walk through him now, as blood trickles down the face of Goodman. Defends well to
30:27that, as Goodman. But the confidence of Varga will have improved dramatically. And he gets
30:35caught. Good shot from Goodman. Nice right hand over the top from Sam Goodman. And he
30:44jabs too, as Varga just tries to stalk and walk him down. And for the first time in the
30:50fight, it's Goodman going backwards. When you feel that feeling of seeing your opponent
30:58cut, especially from a punch, and you got him on the retrieve, it's a different momentum
31:05feeling for Cesar Varga to capitalize on this. Well, the complexion of this fight is completely
31:12bust. But Goodman, he rips into the body with his left hand. Here goes the right-handed
31:19Varga, who's on the chase. Good fight now. Goodman comes back, and this is entertaining
31:25stuff. But still worrying stuff, as the heads come together. For the Goodman Cam. Some troubling
31:38rounds for Goodman. Reaches its end. So, the cut is right underneath that eye. That
31:54same eye, the problematic one. And this is what caused it. Oh, that's a good shot. He's
32:05ducking down and away, and that is a really good shot from Varga. Sam blinking immediately.
32:20And he was hurt, no doubt. And as the action continued, he did find himself with his gloves
32:29on the canvas, but the ruling was no knockdown. It's not a bad cut. No, it's in a good position.
32:38Immediately, you'd think, once his head cleared, Sam Goodman would have thought about the damage.
32:46It could be bothering his eye. It's bruised up, and it's swelling up quite quickly. And
32:52it's that eye too. You can tell he's blinked a couple of times. Yeah, certainly the swelling
32:58is there. So, there's damage to that troublesome and problematic eye for Goodman. And we're
33:06in round number nine of ten here, against the very tough Mexican, Cesar Varga, who's
33:12given an outstanding account of himself throughout, but had a big, big round in the eighth. Goodman.
33:22Blinking, and trying to stay composed. His corner just wants to see him popping the jab
33:28away. And he is pushing Varga backwards again, which was not the case in the previous round
33:36when, oh, Goodman scores big with that right hand. Very slippery. It seems that way, they're
33:46both stepping on each other, sliding around the place a little bit. The referee has been
33:52talking about the puddle in the corner of Varga after pretty much every break between
33:59rounds. They stand at the center of the ring and trade, and there's some very nervous moments
34:06in round number eight for Goodman and his team, and his promotional outfit, and everyone
34:13else involved. Have those moments passed, though? Cesar Varga hopes not. Tries to find
34:20a left hook. A right hand gets through as well. Goodman to the body. Varga covering
34:28up, though, and the heads clash. And, well, is there damage here? No more without head.
34:34Don't move without head. Is there damage to the right eye now of Goodman? Let's keep
34:40going. There is. There's a cut for Goodman. Yeah, there is. There's a cut to the right
34:45eye, so the other eye now for Goodman. Varga, I don't think he's cut, but he's the one who's
34:52exploded like he is. Now Goodman comes back, and they do trade, and this fight is opening
35:00up the further we go. Damage to one eye for Goodman, and a cut over the other, and Cesar
35:10Varga continues to press on him. And this will take maturity and composure for the Australian,
35:22because Varga is not here to lay down, and now he knows he has his opportunities. He's
35:29in upper cuts as well, and the blood now starts to appear. Good right hand from Goodman, who
35:34follows with a left hand. Both hands score two for Varga. Wow. Both eyes. Look at the
35:47damage for Goodman. Oh, that's a bad cut too. That's a really bad cut over the other
35:55eye of Sam Goodman. And he just looks plain old disappointed about it. A sigh for Goodman.
36:18He's got three minutes. Oh, the heads hang together, and it opened up that eyebrow of
36:28Goodman. No cut for Varga. And in the corner of Goodman, they say, let him do his job,
36:42and he can have a look after. To the doctor. And you look now, and they're not going to
36:51stop this fight with three minutes to play. But the situation for plenty here at ringside
37:01who are following along, appears to be Sam Goodman needs to stay up and away, because
37:08he appears to be clear on the cards, despite a couple of rounds of real adversity that
37:16have come in the later stages. But who knows what the judges are doing, and who knows what
37:24Cesar Varga has for him as the right hand of Goodman gets through. So whatever happens,
37:40more stitches to come for Goodman. But he's going to work as hard as he can to make sure
37:49that he keeps this very tough Mexican who is just lifting all the time at bay.

40:24But, gee, he had a bit to handle out there, did Sam Goodman?
40:28Yeah, but you know what? He boxed very well.
40:32Used his distance, used the control. I think he did a great job.
40:38He certainly did. Built a strong lead before the trouble came.
40:46You can see, even just looking at Goodman,
40:49as we have a look at some of the highlights of this bout,
40:52you can just see, Tim, the disappointment that he has in his face
40:55that he's cut again and he's got damage to contend with.
40:59It's boxing. You can't exploit what else can you expect.
41:06And you know what? He wasn't getting hit much.
41:09There was one round where he got hit, but besides that round,
41:13he was making it nice and clean.
41:21What did you like about what Sam was able to do most in this fight, Tim?
41:26I just thought the way he made a very good boxer look average.
41:30That's what impressed me the most.
41:32Because this guy, Cesar Vaca, I watched him before,
41:36and he's a talent. And the way he moved around,
41:39his explosiveness, he's very good.
41:43And what Sammy did today was use the jab, controlled him,
