We visited Clare Luxton's new exhibition at Frameless London
Transcript
00:00Come with me to an immersive art exhibition in London.
00:02Last week I was invited to Frameless in Marble Arch to experience their immersive art galleries
00:07and specifically to see the latest addition to their artist residency program
00:10Right Before We Wake by Claire Luxton.
00:12Frameless is the largest permanent multi-sensory experience in the UK
00:16and their aim is to allow you to step inside the works of some of the world's greatest artists.
00:21Their four permanent gallery spaces invite you to interact with the art in different ways,
00:25for instance moving through pieces of abstract art
00:27and expanding landscapes to create a 3D world around you.
00:30They use classical music and movement tracking technology to heighten your experience
00:34and envelop you in the artworks.
00:36And now for some highly insightful reactions from me and my friend Declan.
00:40This is quite satisfying.
00:41This is like my ballet practice coming back in.
00:44A little bit of like a rond de jambes.
00:48Oh they do look like stupents don't they?
00:50I feel like I'm in the dressing room with Strictly.
00:51If it's all greens and blues, I'm gonna say water lilies.
00:54Yeah, back on.
00:55I knew, I knew this one.
00:58Floor's lava.
00:59Oh that's really clever.
01:04Oh my gosh.
01:05My mum said that he wanted to express curious anxiety and that's what that felt like.
01:11Oh! Subverting expectations.
01:15Frameless's blank canvas gallery across the hall is currently showing Claire Luxton's Adobe-sponsored
01:20residency show, Right Before We Wake, which explores the space between waking and sleeping
01:24using a palette of blues, greens and purples to represent relaxation, growth and introspection.
01:29The show is kind of a response to the fact that 37% of UK adults experience insomnia,
01:34with only a quarter getting the recommended eight hours a night.
01:36And in this over-connected era, we all need time for that restoration and replenishment.
01:41So there is so much like in these exhibits.
01:43They are variations on a bit of a theme.
01:45Some of them are more interactive than others.
01:47Some of them play with light in different ways.
01:48They play with music.
01:49Some of them are more abstract.
01:51Some of them have artists that you can recognise and we did get quite a lot of joy out of trying
01:54to figure out which artists we knew.
01:55So it's going to be Van Gogh's self-portrait.
01:57I know this one.
01:58It's Mondrian.
01:59Oh wait, is it Klimt?
02:00No, it's not.
02:02It is Klimt.
02:02Is it Klimt?
02:03Yeah, I don't know enough about art to say whether that's Klimt.
02:05I think it might be Klimt.
02:06Who's Klimt?
02:07Claire Luxton's installation is a really unconventional take on woods,
02:12a theme that has been founded upon throughout history.
02:14If I was going to be a dork, I'd reference Marcel Proust and his opening line of
02:18Alain Chasse du Pompierre du when he talks about that space between waking and sleeping.
02:22But I'm not going to be a dork and I'm not going to bring up Marcel Proust.
02:24Her take is different.
02:26It's slightly edgier and I think takes into account bodies more.
02:30The use of spoken word as well and colours.
02:33I think her use of colour is particularly interesting.
02:35I thoroughly enjoy the use of music throughout.
02:37There's some derriere shakers in there as well.
02:39So much to enjoy here at Frameless.
02:42After that, there was just time to whiz through the gift shop before heading home.
02:45Claire Luxton's residency is set to run until the end of June
02:48and Frameless is open 7 days a week until 6pm with some late showings available.
02:51Tickets are available at Frameless.com
