00:00I was on the cover of Us Weekly in its first iteration, like in its first year.
00:06I think I was like on the cover, like the, I'd have to go back and look, but it was like the fourth cover.
00:12It was when Perfect came out.
00:14But, yes, I've been on.
00:17I'll have to have you back for another one.
00:18Say again?
00:18I'll have to have you back for another cover.
00:22Please, we would love it.
00:24We would love it.
00:24And I'm so excited for this new project with Nicole Kidman.
00:27I feel like this is the dream team that we've been waiting for for so long.
00:30Well, it's the sisters you didn't know you needed to watch.
00:35We've had a great time.
00:36We've had a fantastic time.
00:39Nicole, the book series, it's not, I mean, they're individual books, but Patricia Cornwell has been writing about a medical examiner named Dr. K. Scarpetta for over 30 years.
00:51And I can't even tell you how many millions of people have bought these books.
00:55And Nicole is going to play Dr. K. Scarpetta.
00:59And when I was producing the show and I heard that Nicole was interested in playing, had always wanted to play Scarpetta, when they were trying to make movies out of it, when I met her, we met by accident at the Oscars one year.
01:15She actually introduced herself to me and we exchanged hellos and a little bit of chick bonding.
01:21But then she walked away and I was like, okay, wow, that was crazy.
01:26And then six months later, she heard that we were making Scarpetta, a show that I was producing.
01:31And she, you know, basically said, I want to be Scarpetta.
01:35And then when I went, okay, great.
01:37And she said, but you're going to be in it with me, right?
01:41And then it was that moment of like, yes, Nicole Kidman.
01:47Yes, I am going to be in a show with you.
01:52Like I had no, I was going to be a producer.
01:55And at that moment, it was decided that I was going to act in the show.
02:00Amazing.
02:00Do you feel at this stage in your career, you're very particular and about the projects that you wanted to sign on to?
02:08I think if you look back at my filmography or my TVography, I'm not that particular.
02:15You know what I mean?
02:16Usually if a part comes to me, there's a reason.
02:20Like it's not random.
02:22I don't believe you'll be seeing me playing Lady Macbeth.
02:27I don't think you're going to see Lady Macbeth in my filmography.
02:31Right.
02:32I think you're going to.
02:33So if you look at it, you know, I pretty much do the work that comes to me.
02:37Yeah, but I'm sure it all excites you in different ways now too.
02:40You know what?
02:41I'm excited to be here with you.
02:42I love my life.
02:44I just love the fact that I get to be me, that I get to do what I do,
02:49that I get to do art and be a part of the art form, that I get to be part of entertainment.
02:55I love the combo platter of show business.
03:01I'm a marketing guru.
03:02I'm like, love marketing.
03:05And I just love the process of living a creative life.
03:09So I got no complaints about that.
03:12Definitely.
03:13And obviously I know so many people have asked you about Freaky Friday,
03:15and everybody's so excited.
03:17But how nice is it to see this arc that Lindsay has gone through over the past few years as well?
03:24Well, first of all, being a child in the movies is very, very, very, very, very, very, very,
03:31times another thousand very is difficult.
03:36It's just difficult.
03:39And it's been glorious to watch her become the mom she is and really loving her work.
03:50You know, she took time off because she said it wasn't fun anymore.
03:55She wasn't enjoying it.
03:56she went weirdly enough to Dubai because it was the one place she could go where it didn't feel
04:03she wasn't bombarded weirdly enough it was a very friendly country that left her alone
04:10and she spent if I'm not mistaken like five years there and it was her starting to miss
04:20the creative work that brought her back and she met her husband but by the way I always
04:26thought her husband brought her there she lives there and it wasn't she met him right at the end
04:32of her time there like on a blind date good for her I know but so it's been a real pleasure for me
04:38to see her develop as a beautiful woman and and smart and gorgeous I mean it's it's cray cray
04:53she looks stunning great quick I'm very happy for her at this stage in her life she looks fantastic
05:00yes luckily I do not have to compete with her or Nicole like when now when we do press tours I do
05:08not have to I do not have to I get to just do this absolutely fantastic I know what I'm saying I just
05:15I get to do this and nobody cares you know I think I read recently or you said recently that your marriage
05:21your over four decade marriage is one of the most proudest things that you've accomplished yeah no
05:25definitely it's a huge accomplishment I mean what would you say I'm sure you get this question like
05:28what your secret is but how did the two of you overcome challenges together we just don't leave
05:33you know it's really it's the it's the oldest story in the book it's it's a it's like a punchline to a joke
05:41I've heard it said by many people before me the secret to a long marriage is don't leave it
05:47and then you wake up one day and you're married a long time and that's you know we're human life is
05:54hard for everybody but you know it's also gratifying to know that he's there
06:01as simple as that don't leave right yeah don't leave back for this upcoming season of the bear
06:07am I I don't know if I am it hasn't aired yet it hasn't aired yet yeah I don't know if I am
06:17I mean I in a way her arc is sort of perfect right she was able to suit up and show up for her daughter
06:24so I will tell you that when when I stop all of this I that will probably loom and it was like
06:42two days I mean it was so fast but it was such an extraordinary well it's not true the ice chips
06:49birthing episode was yeah I just watched a clip of it because somebody had posted
06:54the writing the writing the writing is so gorgeous that you just get to
07:05like relax into it because the writing it's it's so thrilling to have had the opportunity to have
07:16that level of writing in my life as an as a performer such a thrill to watch as well yeah far out thank
07:22you definitely phenomenal everything that you do but I mean on some level you're really only as good
07:29as the material and in that case the material was stratospheric and definitely a great moment in time
07:42great moment great moment in my life definitely a great moment in my life
