‘Boys of the City’ is a 1940 black-and-white comedy thriller directed by Joseph H. Lewis. It is the second film in the ‘East Side Kids’ series and the first to feature Bobby Jordan, Leo Gorcey, and Ernest Morrison. The story follows the East Side Kids as they escape the summer heat and a court sentence by heading to a camp in the Adirondacks. However, their journey takes a detour when their car breaks down, leading them to stay at the mansion of Judge Malcolm Parker. The judge, under indictment for bribery, is surrounded by threats and accusations, creating a tense atmosphere. When the judge is found murdered, the boys take it upon themselves to solve the crime, uncovering secret passages, hidden motives, and a dangerous killer. 00:01:59There we go, right down the line up, on the fire, right, and there we go.
00:02:03Marshall.
00:02:04Now I'll tell you, Dice, where's my spell?
00:02:06Here we go.
00:02:07Put it into it for you.
00:02:08You see me two little deuces, babies?
00:02:09Little Jolt and Kokomo?
00:02:11Come on.
00:02:11Give him up.
00:02:12Dice.
00:02:13There it is.
00:02:14Train and ace.
00:02:14That's me, kiddies.
00:02:15Shoot two.
00:02:16Well, I'm cutting in for a penny.
00:02:17Hey, how do you get that way?
00:02:19This ain't you, Joey.
00:02:20Put it back.
00:02:20I'm living here with Molly, ain't I?
00:02:22So what?
00:02:24So I'm cutting in for every toy pass, get it?
00:02:27I don't get it and I don't like it.
00:02:29So hand over.
00:02:33Hey, you can't do that to my pass.
00:02:36Hey, who do you think you are?
00:02:45Hey!
00:02:46Hey!
00:02:46Hey!
00:02:46Get out!
00:02:47You weren't in the DA's office, Knuckles.
00:02:49I told you I don't want to talk to or see anybody.
00:02:51It's Pat O'Day.
00:02:52He's got news about your brother, Danny.
00:02:55Okay, I'll see, Pat.
00:02:57But if this is another one of your tricks to try and get me to talk, you're wasting your
00:03:01time.
00:03:01It isn't.
00:03:02Come on.
00:03:11How are you, Knuckles?
00:03:13He said you wanted to talk to me about Danny.
00:03:16Okay, Joe.
00:03:17Sit down.
00:03:22Start talking.
00:03:25Look.
00:03:27Who killed Wells?
00:03:28Lay off, will you, Pat?
00:03:30Even if I didn't bump that copper, I wouldn't squeal.
00:03:33Remember how me and Milo wake up still when you raided Tony's fruit stand?
00:03:37That was the stupid coat of a gang of kids.
00:03:40This is the electric chair.
00:03:41And it's our necks, isn't it?
00:03:42Then it was Milo way.
00:03:44You always did take his wraps.
00:03:45I didn't say that.
00:03:46Milo way is in California.
00:03:49Yeah, yeah, I know.
00:03:51And I also know you never packed a rod in your life.
00:03:53You're covering somebody and I've got to find out who.
00:03:56You know, scaring me is not going to do any good.
00:03:58I've been pushed around all my life.
00:04:00Besides, why aren't you satisfied you nabbed me?
00:04:02You got your promotion.
00:04:03And you got your headlines.
00:04:06Yeah, but what good do they do me?
00:04:07I'm in here under another name.
00:04:09And I like headlines.
00:04:10Sure.
00:04:11Any mug who thinks he's tough does.
00:04:14But what about your kid brother?
00:04:18Let him take care of himself.
00:04:20I had to.
00:04:21And look where you landed.
00:04:22How much does he know, Pat?
00:04:27He thinks you're in South America.
00:04:29He's with Molly.
00:04:31She can't keep him off the streets.
00:04:33You've got to help the kid, Pat.
00:04:35We can take care of him.
00:04:36You're the only one who can help him, Knuckles.
00:04:39Oh.
00:04:40Danny's smart.
00:04:42He knows you never had the nerve to shoot anybody.
00:04:44But if you burn as the fall guy, he'll turn against the law and take every kid in the neighborhood with him.
00:04:50We can't let that happen, Knuckles.
00:04:51Don't you see?
00:04:52You've got to tell me who did the killing.
00:04:54Cut it out, will you?
00:04:55You're a cop and you're working on me.
00:04:56But I ain't soft.
00:04:57And I ain't talking anymore, see?
00:04:58I ain't talking anymore.
00:05:00All right.
00:05:01It doesn't make any difference whether you talk or not.
00:05:03This thing is bigger than we are.
00:05:04It's bigger than the law.
00:05:05I'm going to crack this wide open and save you from the chair in spite of yourself.
00:05:09When the kid's on the street.
00:05:23Well?
00:05:24Molly, it looks like we're stymied.
00:05:26The governor says if he won't talk, he doesn't deserve sympathy.
00:05:31Pat, what can we do?
00:05:33I can't get to first base.
00:05:35The G-Men haven't a single lead on the counterfeiters yet.
00:05:39What about the people who saw the shooting?
00:05:41I've never seen so many blind witnesses.
00:05:43Not one of them noticed who was with Knuckles in the getaway.
00:05:47We can't keep Danny in the dark forever.
00:05:49Knuckles is in under a fictitious name.
00:05:51If he's electrocuted, it'll be all over the neighborhood.
00:05:54There'll be no keeping Danny from hating the law.
00:05:56Yeah, I know.
00:06:00I've got to find some way to convince him that it's easier and a whole lot more fun to play cops than it is robbers.
00:06:07That's it, Pat.
00:06:08Get them interested in something to keep them off the streets.
00:06:10Maybe you could form a club.
00:06:12They think clubs are for softies.
00:06:14Oh, but you could interest them in radio.
00:06:15You know all there is to know about it.
00:06:17I've tried that, too.
00:06:18Oh, some of the kids like it.
00:06:20Little Eric, the cripple, has got a two-way set.
00:06:22But not Danny's crowd.
00:06:23They're too worldly, too grown-up for such kid stuff.
00:06:27Don't rush me, boys.
00:06:28I'll be here all week.
00:06:29I'll fade him.
00:06:29I'll fade him.
00:06:30You got him last time, didn't you?
00:06:31Give me half, then.
00:06:32Half a cent.
00:06:33Shut up.
00:06:33Come on, come on.
00:06:34Hop on.
00:06:35Take any part of it.
00:06:36Come on, shoot.
00:06:36Come on, come on.
00:06:37Break it up.
00:06:37Break it up.
00:06:38Coppers, beat it!
00:06:42Mile away!
00:06:43Gee!
00:06:44Hey, hey, where you been?
00:06:45When did you get back?
00:06:46Hello, mile away.
00:06:48Boy, don't he look like ready money.
00:06:49Like that suit with it.
00:06:51I just put him from the coast.
00:06:53So you thought it was the law, huh?
00:06:54Maybe I better run you in.
00:06:57No, you didn't get them rags being a copper.
00:07:00You got angles.
00:07:01You tell him, kid.
00:07:03Maybe sometime I'll tell you about him.
00:07:05Molly home?
00:07:06Yeah.
00:07:07Now, won't she be glad I see you?
00:07:09Boy, are you shocked.
00:07:10Come on, look at that.
00:07:11But Molly, it takes money to start a club like that.
00:07:14Well, something's got to be done.
00:07:16The execution is less than a month away,
00:07:18and it doesn't look as though you're able to stop it.
00:07:20Hey, Molly!
00:07:21Molly!
00:07:23Hey, Molly!
00:07:24Molly, look who's here!
00:07:28A mile away.
00:07:30Well, well.
00:07:31How nice, Milton.
00:07:32Milton.
00:07:33Oh.
00:07:34I used to pull your hair for calling me that.
00:07:36I don't like mile away.
00:07:38Well, here's the new name.
00:07:40M. Franklin Harris.
00:07:42I got the Franklin off a hotel in Philly.
00:07:44New name, new suit.
00:07:49What's the racket this time?
00:07:50Now, aren't that just like a copper?
00:07:52A guy gets a new suit and right away he's in a racket.
00:07:54Don't you ever get tired of that dumb flatfoot hanging around?
00:07:56Oh, he's sort of like the furniture.
00:07:59I'll have to apologize for him.
00:08:01Now, I think you look nice.
00:08:03You don't look so bad yourself, baby.
00:08:05How about you and me stepping out sometime?
00:08:07I am nice.
00:08:08You'd better be nice, too.
00:08:10Remember, I had to chase you out of this neighborhood once.
00:08:12Oh, yeah, but that's all over now, Pat.
00:08:14From now on, I'm strictly legit.
00:08:17Huh?
00:08:18No kidding.
00:08:19Ever since I read about what happened to Knuckles...
00:08:21No, no, no, no.
00:08:21Let's sit down.
00:08:22Why don't you stand here all day?
00:08:24Here, Danny.
00:08:27Go buy yourself a cigar.
00:08:28Gee, thanks.
00:08:30Boy, I sure wish Knuckles was back in South America.
00:08:34Hey!
00:08:35You three had a gang just like Dutch Skinny and Meat, didn't you?
00:08:39Yeah, we had a gang.
00:08:41All right, come on, come on.
00:08:42Get out.
00:08:42Justine.
00:08:46Us guys are one of Milo A's angles.
00:08:48We're the smartest guy at a bunch.
00:08:50I bet he's got her older than to choke a horse.
00:08:52Whatever that is.
00:08:53Hey, dry up.
00:08:54He ain't never seen a horse.
00:08:56Shoot a dollar! Shoot a dollar!
00:08:57Oh, give me a dollar!
00:08:59What the fuck?
00:09:00Hey!
00:09:01Hey!
00:09:01Hey!
00:09:03On the level, Pat.
00:09:04I used to think you was an awful chump for taking the hard way.
00:09:07But since I see what the easy way got Knuckles, well,
00:09:10I'm beginning to get smart.
00:09:11I'm so glad to hear you talk like that, Milton.
00:09:15Our biggest worry is how Danny will take it when he hears about Knuckles.
00:09:19Pat and I were just trying to plan a figure some way of...
00:09:22Maybe I can help.
00:09:23What's the gag?
00:09:24Well, I thought maybe a boys' club.
00:09:26Turn up, Hardy.
00:09:27Hey, hey, hey.
00:09:28I'm coming!
00:09:29I what to do!
00:09:29Hey, hey, hey, hey!
00:09:29I love you, sonny!
00:09:30Hey!
00:09:30Help!
00:09:30I love you.
00:09:31Get in there.
00:09:33Oh, want this dirty...
00:09:35Hey, I want your old abuse.
00:09:36Hang in, guys.
00:09:38You think you ruin a forest?
00:09:39Not sure, you win.
00:09:43Hey, pic.
00:09:45Well, you really need it.
00:09:46That's fine.
00:09:47Let we go.
00:09:49Come on!
00:09:49Jebby.
00:09:49Come on!
00:09:50You run it, Tony!
00:09:51For sure that time, Tony, we're going to pay all the time.
00:09:53Just to my luck.
00:10:02That's no good, Molly.
00:10:03Oh, if we had plenty of money to equip a real gym
00:10:06with boxing gloves and basketballs, they might go for it.
00:10:10You're right. The kids won't go for an empty room.
00:10:13Use your head.
00:10:14There are a lot of civic-minded saps uptown
00:10:16who are always donating something or other.
00:10:18They'll be glad to throw in with you.
00:10:19Pat, that's a splendid idea.
00:10:21Yes, it does have possibilities.
00:10:24I know a lot of businessmen uptown who might be interested at that.
00:10:28Sure you do.
00:10:29You can count on me for a pair of mitts.
00:10:31I might even drop around sometime and see if you can still lick me.
00:10:34Anytime.
00:10:36You know, my, the way you always were full of clever ideas,
00:10:40it's too bad you didn't keep your schemes on the level.
00:10:42Oh, Pat, leave him alone.
00:10:44I think he's wonderful.
00:10:46Hey, you're supposed to say that about me.
00:10:49Yeah?
00:10:50Molly used to go for me in a big way.
00:10:53Remember?
00:10:53Well, let's keep talking about the club.
00:10:55I want to get started on it right away.
00:10:57Rowing machine, James McMasters.
00:10:59Boxing gloves, George Morris.
00:11:01Kitchen utensils, Mrs. Mary Borden.
00:11:03Shower bath, Leon Miller.
00:11:06You're doing a fine piece of work, Pat.
00:11:08I know the boys are going to help you all they can.
00:11:11I know.
00:11:12I was brought up in that neighborhood.
00:11:14Thanks, Captain.
00:11:15And what about the badges?
00:11:16The commissioner's sorry that he can't give it as official sanction.
00:11:22But he did suggest that you design a badge of your own with the inscription, Junior Police.
00:11:28Thanks, Captain.
00:11:29I'll get on it right away.
00:11:33Have you got any leads on those counterfeiters yet?
00:11:36No.
00:11:37They're pretty smart operators, Pat.
00:11:39By the way, they haven't passed a bill in your neighborhood yet.
00:11:43You might keep an eye out for anything that shows up.
00:11:45Don't worry.
00:11:46I will.
00:11:46Now, you don't know how to break in a boxcar.
00:11:50Who told you?
00:11:51Mylowy showed me how to break the lock.
00:11:53That's how he got started.
00:11:55We ain't going to break in any boxcar.
00:11:57You want to be like Mylowy, don't you?
00:11:59I don't want to go to reform school like he did.
00:12:02We're going after the big stuff like he's doing now.
00:12:05Yeah?
00:12:06Maybe we'll do it without you.
00:12:07Maybe he ain't got the moxie.
00:12:11Maybe he ain't got the nerve to break in a boxcar.
00:12:28Listen.
00:12:29I'm running this gang, and you're going to do anything without me.
00:12:32Get it?
00:12:34Okay.
00:12:35Okay.
00:12:37Here, you wits!
00:12:51Come out of there!
00:12:52Well, we can't make no dough sitting around here.
00:12:54I'll say we can't.
00:12:55Here comes old man Wilkes.
00:12:56I warned you about breaking the law.
00:12:58You'll answer to the police for this.
00:13:00Hello, Pat.
00:13:16All right, you kids.
00:13:17Now beat it.
00:13:18What kind of a boat is it?
00:13:28I've been to the zoo.
00:13:30I can't see none there.
00:13:30Well, maybe somebody invented it.
00:13:33Maybe something new.
00:13:34Ah, you dope.
00:13:35They only invent things you can sell.
00:13:37You couldn't sell that.
00:13:39You couldn't give it away.
00:13:43Good morning.
00:13:44Good morning.
00:13:45Good morning.
00:13:47Good morning.
00:13:48Good morning.
00:13:49Good morning.
00:13:49Come on.
00:13:52Let's drag it out.
00:13:53Wait.
00:13:54Ah, maybe it'll come if you call it.
00:13:56Here, Percy.
00:13:57Here, Percy.
00:13:59Here, Percy.
00:14:00Here, Percy.
00:14:02Here, Percy.
00:14:02Here, Percy.
00:14:02Now, Dutch?
00:14:13Yeah, now!
00:14:20You dumb ox.
00:14:23You want to join our gang?
00:14:25Make a man of you.
00:14:27I had the same kind of a gang.
00:14:30Only I had it beat into me that the hard way paid off better
00:14:32than the easy.
00:14:33Just what their parents should do.
00:14:36Most of them don't have time, or don't know,
00:14:39or don't realize until it's too late,
00:14:41until one of their kids has ended up in the death house,
00:14:43like one of my gang has now.
00:14:44Don't you see, Mr. Wilkes?
00:14:46They have no place else to go but the streets.
00:14:48I see.
00:14:49You merely want them to have some place
00:14:52to spend their idle time.
00:14:54Exactly.
00:14:55It's a deal.
00:14:56Thanks, Mr. Wilkes.
00:14:58See what you can do with the old warehouse in a year.
00:15:02You mean this one?
00:15:03Yes, sir.
00:15:04Let's tell the kids.
00:15:05Well, listen.
00:15:06Every guy in my gang's got to have a name,
00:15:08like that's Skinny and Pee-wee.
00:15:09And your name's the mouse.
00:15:11You mean you want me to be in...
00:15:13Well, I could be in your...
00:15:16The mouse.
00:15:19The mouse.
00:15:21Say, come to think of it,
00:15:22that's a rather nice name, isn't it?
00:15:24And Pat.
00:15:25Yes, sir?
00:15:26Well, say to his father.
00:15:27Come on, let's go tell him.
00:15:28Hey, what's the old man for?
00:15:30What's the matter with the girl?
00:15:31Father.
00:15:32Father.
00:15:34Don't raise your voice so.
00:15:36You know what your mother...
00:15:37I want you to meet the gang.
00:15:39I've been initiated.
00:15:40Gang, this is my father.
00:15:41I mean my old man.
00:15:43Hiya, puppy.
00:15:44Hi, fancy pants.
00:15:45I mean, pop.
00:15:45And from now on, call me the mouse.
00:15:48Not Algernon.
00:15:49All right.
00:15:58Watch out.
00:15:59Good job.
00:16:00Good job.
00:16:00Good job.
00:16:11How long did it take you?
00:16:14Oh, it took about four months
00:16:15to build this portable radio set,
00:16:17and it's a honey.
00:16:18Now listen.
00:16:20Okay, you rookie mouse.
00:16:22Call the meeting to order.
00:16:28All right.
00:16:29Now, if you fellas will find the...
00:16:31I'll pipe down your mugs
00:16:35and fall in for the meeting.
00:16:36I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
00:16:47and to the republic for which it stands,
00:16:51one nation, indivisible,
00:16:54with liberty and justice for all.
00:16:56It's wonderful, Pat, but...
00:17:05Daddy won't give it a tumble, huh?
00:17:08No, Pat.
00:17:08I talked to him.
00:17:09Sure you did, honey.
00:17:10Well, I'm going after him.
00:17:12Tell Algie to carry on for me, will you?
00:17:14Good luck.
00:17:14Oh, boy.
00:17:22Did you get a load of that?
00:17:25Forget it, Dutch.
00:17:27This is good enough for us.
00:17:28All right, all right.
00:17:30Catch, boo.
00:17:30You, you lopers.
00:17:38Hello, Tony.
00:17:39Hello, Pat.
00:17:40Oh, I want to congratulate you.
00:17:42You're sure doing a nice job with the boys.
00:17:45You know, keep them off the streets and everything.
00:17:47Thanks.
00:17:49Oh, but this bunch of here,
00:17:51they sure is tough.
00:17:53They're not tough, Tony.
00:17:55You just got to get them thinking right.
00:17:57Yeah, I've got a ball.
00:17:59Come on, come on.
00:18:00Come on, come on.
00:18:01Okay, hey, out there.
00:18:02Any second.
00:18:04Police!
00:18:05Teams!
00:18:05Police!
00:18:07Teams!
00:18:08Teams!
00:18:08Ha!
00:18:09Now I have you, you thief.
00:18:10Come on.
00:18:11Now, you thief.
00:18:12I got a peewee.
00:18:13I'll show you.
00:18:14I'll show you.
00:18:15Here, here, here.
00:18:16What's going on?
00:18:18It's him, Pat.
00:18:19He's loaning.
00:18:20Daddy didn't know.
00:18:21I mean, we just played ball, that's all.
00:18:23You thief, you steal from my car.
00:18:24I did not.
00:18:25No, it is.
00:18:26Bart Smith's lying.
00:18:27We don't want nothing to do with his old car.
00:18:28Shut up.
00:18:29Now, I saw it all, Mr. Smith.
00:18:31The kid was going after his ball.
00:18:33He didn't mean to break into your car.
00:18:34Nein.
00:18:35Nein.
00:18:36Teams, all of them.
00:18:38On this one, he winds up like his no-good brother is.
00:18:41Quiet.
00:18:44That's enough of that.
00:18:45So?
00:18:46Where are we that you beat up citizens?
00:18:49Nein, it is not so here.
00:18:51I'm sorry, Mr. Smith.
00:18:52No harm intended.
00:18:54No harm, is it?
00:18:55You stangle me.
00:18:56No harm, is it?
00:18:59He chokes me because I say you are going to the electric chair like your brother is.
00:19:04You're a liar.
00:19:07Tell him he's lying, Pat.
00:19:08Tell him not going to be in South America like you said he was.
00:19:11Look, Danny.
00:19:11Let's go home.
00:19:14Then he ain't in South America.
00:19:17Then Schmitter's right.
00:19:18Well, why didn't you tell me?
00:19:24Knuckles didn't do anything to die for.
00:19:26They'll let him finish him off.
00:19:27He didn't do anything.
00:19:28He couldn't.
00:19:28Danny, steady, Danny, steady.
00:19:30They're not going to give him the chair.
00:19:32We won't let him.
00:19:32We're going to get him out.
00:19:33I give you my word.
00:19:34Your word.
00:19:36You've been lying to me right along.
00:19:38You won't get him out.
00:19:40It's guys like you to put him in.
00:19:41You're a copper.
00:19:42I hate copper.
00:19:42I swear.
00:19:43Now, look, Danny.
00:19:44He was my pal.
00:19:45Like Dutch here is your pal.
00:19:47And I know he didn't shoot a copper.
00:19:48We're going to prove he didn't.
00:19:50You and me.
00:19:51You're going to help get him out.
00:19:53How?
00:19:54I've got a plan.
00:19:55Come on home and I'll tell you.
00:19:57I ought to choke you for this.
00:20:03Yeah.
00:20:04I am a taxpayer.
00:20:06And I am going to the commissioner.
00:20:08And then we see who gets choked.
00:20:12Pat.
00:20:13You know, I get my orders from higher ups.
00:20:16The commissioner is afraid,
00:20:18but this boy's club of future voters
00:20:20might try to run this district.
00:20:22That's crazy.
00:20:23You can't tell that to the commissioner.
00:20:25And a cop can't go around
00:20:27shoving people's faces.
00:20:28I didn't shove him in the face.
00:20:30I merely tried to stop him
00:20:31from telling Danny
00:20:32that Knuckles is in the death house.
00:20:34Now, look, Captain.
00:20:35I can't be broken now.
00:20:37How am I going to clear Knuckles
00:20:38if I'm tied down to a beat?
00:20:40There's nothing I can do about it, Pat.
00:20:43Schmidt wants to press charges again, Danny.
00:20:45So get on your uniform
00:20:46and bring him in.
00:20:47Press charges?
00:20:48I told you the kid
00:20:50was only chasing a tennis ball.
00:20:52Will you come to your senses, man?
00:20:53Yes, sir.
00:20:56That's better.
00:20:57Now get going.
00:21:00Report back here in uniform.
00:21:02All right.
00:21:02Yes, Mahoney?
00:21:08Davis and Banks just brought in
00:21:09a stolen car
00:21:10bearing a California license.
00:21:11Well?
00:21:12There was a counterfeit plate
00:21:13under a floorboard.
00:21:14What?
00:21:15A plate.
00:21:16A counterfeit plate
00:21:17for a five-dollar bill.
00:21:18Send it in.
00:21:19Yeah?
00:21:20Yeah?
00:21:21Your brains brought us
00:21:22to New York,
00:21:23but we're just as hot
00:21:24as the cops
00:21:24as we ever were.
00:21:25Get your brilliance
00:21:26working on that.
00:21:27I have.
00:21:31What do you think
00:21:31I brought this mug along for?
00:21:33The cops here
00:21:34don't know him from Adam.
00:21:36All he can do
00:21:37is talk big.
00:21:38Why he couldn't even
00:21:39give this stuff away.
00:21:41Besides,
00:21:42he's only cool
00:21:43till they see him
00:21:43with you once.
00:21:44That's just why
00:21:45we're scattering out.
00:21:46You're going uptown.
00:21:48He's moving into
00:21:48a classy place
00:21:49on the west side.
00:21:51So he can spend
00:21:52what little dough
00:21:52he's got left?
00:21:53We're going to have
00:21:54plenty of dough.
00:21:54I've got a plan.
00:21:56A knockout.
00:21:57Don't tell me.
00:21:58Let me guess.
00:21:59You're going out
00:22:00and polish off
00:22:00the first cover you see.
00:22:02I told you
00:22:03to lay off of that.
00:22:08Oh, it's you.
00:22:10Why ain't Whisper
00:22:11here with that plate?
00:22:12Well, I must have
00:22:14picked him up.
00:22:15And you'd better beat it.
00:22:17If the cops ever
00:22:18bust in here
00:22:19and find that press,
00:22:20it's curtains for me.
00:22:27They knocked over
00:22:28Martin's garage
00:22:28and got the car.
00:22:29Where were you?
00:22:30Why'd you come here?
00:22:32They didn't spot me
00:22:33mile away.
00:22:33I'm telling you.
00:22:34I even followed them
00:22:35to the precinct station.
00:22:36This matter has been
00:22:37misrepresented to me.
00:22:38I'm going to resign now.
00:22:41Sit down.
00:22:42I didn't bring you
00:22:43here to resign.
00:22:44Oh, don't be a fool
00:22:45my way.
00:22:45Let's get out of here
00:22:46and go to Florida.
00:22:47The season ain't open yet.
00:22:49I always took care
00:22:49of you, haven't I?
00:22:51Give me a chance
00:22:52to think.
00:22:52I'll figure a land
00:22:53to Florida in style.
00:22:56Well, the cop has
00:22:57finally got Danny.
00:22:59Guess that makes me
00:23:00leader of this gang.
00:23:02And this is what
00:23:02we're going to do.
00:23:04I got to hold him
00:23:04out of the way.
00:23:05We tap with him.
00:23:06Then we really go places.
00:23:07Right, Peewee?
00:23:08Sure, we'll be
00:23:09riding high
00:23:09and Daddy's in the jug.
00:23:11Ah, let him
00:23:11take care of himself.
00:23:12He ain't my worry.
00:23:13What do you ever
00:23:14do for me?
00:23:14Nothing.
00:23:15He's done plenty
00:23:15for all of us.
00:23:16Especially you.
00:23:17Say, how about
00:23:18the time he saved you
00:23:19from that reform school
00:23:20rap?
00:23:20Do you remember?
00:23:21Ah, that was nothing.
00:23:22I could have done it
00:23:23with one hand,
00:23:24with one hand.
00:23:25What's a reform school
00:23:26rap?
00:23:29You guys turn
00:23:30in salt or something?
00:23:33What's the matter
00:23:34with you guys anyway?
00:23:35Listen, Dutch.
00:23:36Danny's always been
00:23:36on the square with us.
00:23:38And if you were
00:23:38where he is,
00:23:39you know,
00:23:40he'd try to get you out.
00:23:52Well, what do you think
00:23:53we can do?
00:23:54Well, you always said
00:23:55that you were just
00:23:56as smart as Danny was.
00:23:57Yeah, go ahead
00:23:58and think up something.
00:23:59Yeah, why don't you
00:23:59use your old bean?
00:24:02If you've got one.
00:24:03I got it.
00:24:04Listen, guys.
00:24:06No, no, I said no!
00:24:09Please, Mr. Schmidt.
00:24:10We won't even
00:24:11come around no more.
00:24:12We joined a club
00:24:13and everything.
00:24:14Well, really, sir,
00:24:14you misunderstand Danny.
00:24:16All of you!
00:24:17Or you're going
00:24:18to jail with him!
00:24:19Hey, Marlowe!
00:24:20Hey, Marlowe!
00:24:21Hey, Marlowe!
00:24:23What's up, Dutch?
00:24:24They've thrown
00:24:25Danny in jail.
00:24:26Who has?
00:24:27Old Mayor Schmidt
00:24:28said Danny
00:24:29was stealing
00:24:29out of his car.
00:24:31And Pat came
00:24:31and got him.
00:24:32Why that no-good copper?
00:24:38Listen, kid,
00:24:38I'll fix it for you
00:24:39if you'll
00:24:40do a little favor
00:24:41for me.
00:24:42Sure.
00:24:43If you can spring
00:24:43Danny,
00:24:44I'll do anything.
00:24:45You know that,
00:24:45Marlowe.
00:24:46Yeah, but this is not easy.
00:24:47You can get caught.
00:24:49Uh, you think
00:24:50I'm going to get caught?
00:24:51Nah, you're a smart kid.
00:24:54You remember
00:24:54Slats, Kenny?
00:24:55That's totally sure.
00:24:57He ain't around no more.
00:24:58That's what the law thinks.
00:25:00He just pulled a job
00:25:01down the street
00:25:02and planted some evidence
00:25:02to make it look like
00:25:03I did it.
00:25:04The double-crosser.
00:25:05Yeah, and if I don't
00:25:06get the stuff back,
00:25:07I'm in for a stretch.
00:25:08Where is it?
00:25:08I'll get it.
00:25:10It's down
00:25:11at the precinct station.
00:25:13Gee.
00:25:15You think I have to
00:25:15swipe something
00:25:16right at a police station?
00:25:18What's the matter,
00:25:18you yelling?
00:25:19No.
00:25:21But how am I going to get it?
00:25:22It's a cinch, kid.
00:25:25I'll talk to Schmidt.
00:25:26We'll all go down
00:25:27to the station
00:25:27as witnesses.
00:25:29And if the stuff's still there,
00:25:30it'll be a flat package
00:25:31wrapped in brown paper.
00:25:33And what I want you to do
00:25:34is...
00:25:36I agree that it seems
00:25:39unjust, Molly.
00:25:41But if Schmidt wants
00:25:42to be technical,
00:25:43he can press a charge
00:25:44of false entry.
00:25:45What does that mean?
00:25:46Reform school,
00:25:47I'm afraid.
00:25:49And you told me
00:25:50the captain just wanted
00:25:50to lecture him.
00:25:52If I'd have known
00:25:52it was going to be like this,
00:25:53I'd have sent him away,
00:25:54hidden him or something.
00:25:56You explain it to her,
00:25:57Captain.
00:25:57I couldn't help it.
00:25:58I don't care.
00:25:59It isn't right
00:25:59to ruin the boy's life
00:26:00just because an old fool
00:26:02had a grudge
00:26:02against his brother.
00:26:03I'm just a precinct captain
00:26:05who takes and gives orders.
00:26:07Why don't you talk
00:26:08to Mr. Schmidt?
00:26:09Don't worry, I will.
00:26:10And plenty.
00:26:13Hello?
00:26:14A Mr. Schmidt, Captain.
00:26:15Some boys
00:26:16and a Mr. Harris with it.
00:26:17Send them in.
00:26:18Oh, wait.
00:26:20Uh, send Danny in, too.
00:26:29Well, hell, anyway,
00:26:30it fits better
00:26:31than that old suit.
00:26:32What are you doing here, Harris?
00:26:34Well, Captain,
00:26:35I guess I just remembered
00:26:36something my old pal
00:26:37Pat here forgot.
00:26:39I used to be a kid
00:26:39in that block myself.
00:26:41All Schmidt needed here
00:26:42was a little civil reasoning
00:26:43and a little bit of a dream.
00:26:51Oh, gee, Molly,
00:26:52it's swell of you
00:26:53to come down here.
00:26:55As I was saying, Captain,
00:26:56never mind, Harris.
00:26:57Let Schmidt speak for himself.
00:27:00Now, just what is the charge
00:27:02you've got again this boy?
00:27:04Him?
00:27:05Yes.
00:27:06Oh, no,
00:27:06you do not understand.
00:27:09He comes by my place
00:27:10and chase away the customers.
00:27:12And last time,
00:27:13a window was broken.
00:27:14And I think it is him.
00:27:15But I was wrong.
00:27:17This time,
00:27:18he jumps into my car.
00:27:19And I chase him.
00:27:21And I smack him good.
00:27:25That's enough charge for him.
00:27:26Then you mean
00:27:27the real no charge?
00:27:28No.
00:27:30The charge is for him.
00:27:33He pushes me in the face.
00:27:35He chokes me.
00:27:36He is not fit.
00:27:37You should make him
00:27:38to go from the police department.
00:27:40The mouse is in the middle.
00:27:43Yeah.
00:27:44And now he comes
00:27:45by my place in uniform.
00:27:47Yes,
00:27:47and he'll continue to do so.
00:27:50Any action that has been
00:27:51brought against Officer O'Day
00:27:53is because he has
00:27:54exceeded his duties,
00:27:55not because of the demands
00:27:56of a private citizen.
00:27:57Officer O'Day,
00:28:00the next time you see
00:28:02him hitting a boy,
00:28:03remember a charge
00:28:03called assault and battery.
00:28:05Yes, sir.
00:28:07And the next time,
00:28:07be sure you don't
00:28:08change your mind.
00:28:09There's also a charge
00:28:10called false arrest.
00:28:11Yes, sir.
00:28:13Well, I guess that adjourns
00:28:14my little court for today.
00:28:17Danny?
00:28:20You may not always get off
00:28:21so easy.
00:28:23Don't worry, Cap.
00:28:24I won't give you
00:28:25any more trouble.
00:28:25I'll see that he doesn't.
00:28:27Oh, Pat.
00:28:35Come here.
00:28:42Pat, I want you to run
00:28:43this counterfeit $5 plate
00:28:44up the Treasury Department.
00:28:45It's the first tangible
00:28:46bit of evidence
00:28:47that we've gotten.
00:28:48So be careful.
00:28:51Don't worry.
00:28:52I'm hoping this means
00:28:53more to me and Danny
00:28:54than it does
00:28:54to the Treasury Department.
00:28:57Okay, Dutch.
00:28:59You go and do
00:29:00whatever you want to do.
00:29:01But I promised Molly
00:29:03I could down
00:29:03and give the club
00:29:04the once-over
00:29:04because Pat's trying
00:29:05to spring knuckles.
00:29:06Pat's spring knuckles.
00:29:08He couldn't even
00:29:09spring you.
00:29:11If anybody can
00:29:12spring knuckles,
00:29:13it's my little way.
00:29:13He's smart.
00:29:15And he's a lot of
00:29:16sitting in his angles.
00:29:17He told me so.
00:29:18Right, Peewee?
00:29:18Right.
00:29:20Well, maybe we can
00:29:22get them both
00:29:22to help then.
00:29:23But Pat's still a coper.
00:29:24They don't get guys
00:29:25out of jail.
00:29:25They stick them in.
00:29:27Listen,
00:29:28Knuckles was Pat's pal.
00:29:30And I'm going down
00:29:31to talk to him anyway.
00:29:35So long, guys.
00:29:36Station W-2-B-R-C
00:29:48calling Vassie Junior
00:29:49Police Club.
00:29:50W-2-A-C-X
00:29:51calling W-2-A-C-X.
00:29:54Vassie Junior
00:29:55Police Station.
00:29:56Hello, Eric.
00:29:57You're coming in fine.
00:29:57Must be that new aerial.
00:30:00Yeah.
00:30:00And listen, Pat.
00:30:01I just heard
00:30:01Danny and Dutch
00:30:02talking about you
00:30:03and the club.
00:30:03They're coming over
00:30:04to see you now.
00:30:06Do you remember
00:30:07exactly what they said, Eric?
00:30:12Sure, here it is.
00:30:13I wrote it down.
00:30:14Ready?
00:30:15This is what they said.
00:30:16Okay, Dutch.
00:30:17Go on and do
00:30:18what you want to.
00:30:18But I promised Molly.
00:30:32Okay, let's get
00:30:33out of here fast.
00:30:36Here.
00:30:44Go a little easier
00:30:44on this, will you?
00:30:46Sure.
00:30:47We can't keep on
00:30:48living on this chicken feed.
00:30:50And those bills
00:30:50are getting so hot now
00:30:51they're tracing them
00:30:52the minute they hit a bank.
00:30:53That's just what
00:30:54I want them to do.
00:30:55If they hit enough banks
00:30:56at the same time
00:30:56it'll take the heat
00:30:57off of us
00:30:57till we can make
00:30:58one big haul
00:30:59and get out of this town.
00:31:00Yeah?
00:31:00How are you
00:31:02going to float
00:31:03so many?
00:31:03That's what I called
00:31:04you for.
00:31:06Now get this straight.
00:31:08The copper I know
00:31:09has a club for kids
00:31:10sponsored by a bunch
00:31:10of big businessmen.
00:31:12I've got the kids
00:31:13eating out of my hand
00:31:14but I can't go
00:31:14near the place
00:31:15because the copper
00:31:16thinks he's wise to me.
00:31:18But I've got an idea.
00:31:19What I want you to do
00:31:22Hey Pat
00:31:31we wanted to talk
00:31:32to you about something.
00:31:33Yeah I know.
00:31:35Dutch wants to work
00:31:35on one of Miloway's angles.
00:31:38He thinks clubs
00:31:38are for softies.
00:31:39Hey wait a minute
00:31:40I never said that.
00:31:42No?
00:31:44Then who said this?
00:31:46Pat Spring Knuckles?
00:31:48Well he couldn't even
00:31:49sprain you.
00:31:50If anybody can
00:31:51sprain Knuckles
00:31:51just a mile away
00:31:52he's already going
00:31:52to let us in
00:31:53on one of his angles
00:31:54he told me.
00:31:55Pat's still a copper.
00:31:56They don't get guys out
00:31:57they put them in.
00:31:59Hey.
00:32:00How'd you hear that?
00:32:02Oh just a little gadget
00:32:03we have
00:32:04that wouldn't interest
00:32:05big tough guys
00:32:06like you are.
00:32:07Well it would me.
00:32:08Hey how'd you do it
00:32:09will you show me?
00:32:11That's one of the things
00:32:12I've been trying to do.
00:32:13But Dutch is right.
00:32:15I'm only a copper.
00:32:16I can't sprain criminals.
00:32:18I just want to prove
00:32:19Knuckles innocent.
00:32:19Yeah even his lawyer
00:32:20couldn't do that.
00:32:22That's because his lawyer
00:32:23doesn't know what we know.
00:32:24Knuckles wouldn't tell him.
00:32:26Yeah?
00:32:27What?
00:32:28Knuckles never carried
00:32:29a gun in his life.
00:32:31Hey that's right.
00:32:33He said Rod carries
00:32:35with suckers.
00:32:37Well.
00:32:38Then he couldn't
00:32:38have killed that copper.
00:32:40Right.
00:32:40And it's up to us
00:32:41to find out who did.
00:32:47Officer Patrick O'Day here.
00:32:49Algie.
00:32:52Mike.
00:32:54Gee I never did like cops.
00:32:56My old man
00:32:57tried out for him
00:32:58and he was too short.
00:32:59Boy will he be short
00:32:59when he sees this.
00:33:01Look Dutch.
00:33:03They got our names
00:33:04on the back of him.
00:33:05Yeah.
00:33:06And he just felt
00:33:06mine right for once.
00:33:10Thanks Pat.
00:33:11I'm proud to be
00:33:11a policeman.
00:33:12Me too.
00:33:13Yeah this ain't so bad.
00:33:14A classy looking gentleman
00:33:15to see Officer Pat O'Day.
00:33:17Well show the classy
00:33:18looking gentleman in Pete.
00:33:20Now remember kids
00:33:21keep your eye
00:33:23on any stranger
00:33:24you see in the neighborhood
00:33:24and wherever you go
00:33:25watch out for those
00:33:26bills I described.
00:33:27Now beat it.
00:33:28Officer O'Day.
00:33:36Yes sir.
00:33:37I'm Robert Morrison.
00:33:38I've worked with boys
00:33:39for years.
00:33:40I've just heard of
00:33:41the wonderful things
00:33:41you're doing.
00:33:43I'd like to help.
00:33:44Won't you sit down?
00:33:48We're off to a
00:33:49pretty good start here
00:33:50but any assistance
00:33:51certainly would be welcome.
00:33:53Well I believe boys
00:33:54should be given
00:33:54some practical work.
00:33:56Where they can earn
00:33:57their own money
00:33:58and occupy their time
00:33:58constructively.
00:34:00Idleness makes the criminal.
00:34:02Well I agree with you
00:34:03but the way business
00:34:04has been lately
00:34:04there hasn't been
00:34:05much work of any kind.
00:34:06That's why I've come.
00:34:09Here.
00:34:09Take a look at this.
00:34:23Let's find.
00:34:24Direct advertising
00:34:25has always been my means
00:34:26of contributing
00:34:27to enterprising young men.
00:34:30Tomorrow morning
00:34:30I want those circulars
00:34:31delivered into the homes
00:34:32of 10,000 families
00:34:33in different sections
00:34:35of the city.
00:34:35And you want boys
00:34:36to do it?
00:34:37Honest boys
00:34:38who won't throw them away.
00:34:40I'll pay them well.
00:34:41Let's say
00:34:41one dollar
00:34:44for every three hundred.
00:34:45Hey, hey mister!
00:34:48I'll deliver them all
00:34:49for that kind of coin.
00:34:50Give me some too.
00:34:51Give me some.
00:34:51I'm awful fast to live earth.
00:34:53There'll be plenty
00:34:54for everybody
00:34:55and I don't want to hear
00:34:56of any of them
00:34:57being shoved down a sewer.
00:34:59Thank you, Mr. Morrison.
00:35:00That money will come in handy.
00:35:02And there'll be plenty
00:35:03to go out every week.
00:35:04Hey, be sure to give them to us.
00:35:05We're junior police.
00:35:06You can trust us.
00:35:07Me too.
00:35:07Vassie Junior Police Club.
00:35:12Yes, Captain.
00:35:13Right away.
00:35:14I'm just leaving.
00:35:15I got a rush call
00:35:16to the stations.
00:35:17That's perfectly all right.
00:35:19You run right along.
00:35:20I suppose I can discuss
00:35:21the business with the boys?
00:35:22Yes, sir.
00:35:23Just tell Danny
00:35:24when and where you want
00:35:25the letters picked up
00:35:26and he'll be on the job.
00:35:27Now remember, rookies,
00:35:28keep your eyes open.
00:35:29We'll be alright, Captain.
00:35:31You'll have to get started
00:35:32by 6 a.m.
00:35:33So you better pick up
00:35:33the circulars by 5.30.
00:35:35I'll write the address for you.
00:35:37That plate was for
00:35:40an almost perfect $5 bill.
00:35:42I looked at it
00:35:42just half an hour
00:35:43before you left.
00:35:44That may be.
00:35:45I didn't see it.
00:35:46But the package I took
00:35:47to the Federal Building
00:35:47never left my hands
00:35:49until it was delivered.
00:35:50Then how was it
00:35:50a $5 plate when it left here
00:35:52and a blank plate
00:35:53when they opened the package?
00:35:55Maybe the Depression got it.
00:35:56Losing valuable evidence
00:35:58is serious
00:35:58for a man
00:35:59who's just been demoted.
00:36:00Look, Captain.
00:36:01I'm proud to be a member
00:36:03of the force,
00:36:03in uniform or out.
00:36:05But if that plate
00:36:05was substituted,
00:36:06it was done either
00:36:07before I got it
00:36:08or after it was delivered.
00:36:09I didn't do it.
00:36:11That's all.
00:36:13You may go now.
00:36:15Yes, sir.
00:36:16Do you think he was
00:36:25burned up enough
00:36:25over his demotion
00:36:26to let his old mob
00:36:28get next to him?
00:36:30I didn't think so
00:36:31before now.
00:36:33There's something
00:36:34crazy going on.
00:36:39I thought I knew
00:36:40why he was so interested
00:36:41in that plate.
00:36:42Is this all I'm going to get?
00:36:45Yeah, I can use more, too.
00:36:46That's all you can handle.
00:36:47Get going.
00:36:48And remember,
00:36:48none of these in the sewers.
00:36:49I'm out of here.
00:37:19I don't know.
00:37:49Leave an address where you can be reached.
00:37:59Circulars.
00:38:02Mailboxes.
00:38:03They all tell the same story.
00:38:08It's funny, Joe.
00:38:10There's none of that stuff been passed in the 68th Precinct.
00:38:15You better get up there and keep your eye out on all those apartment house mailboxes.
00:38:19Yes.
00:38:19They're all out turning the whole town upside down for them phony fires the kids spread.
00:38:27Didn't I tell you they heated me off us?
00:38:29Magnificent, Harris.
00:38:30Now we can start floating the 20s.
00:38:32And we'll be looking for them.
00:38:33We'd better hurry up, though, where they will be.
00:38:35We're lambing out tonight with a real bankroll.
00:38:37So get going.
00:38:38We'll meet at Cornwall's at 4 o'clock.
00:38:40What do you want me to do?
00:38:43Go step that press.
00:38:45Then get upstairs and keep a lookout for them floaters of mine from the west side.
00:38:48Look, Joe, what's wrong?
00:38:55I didn't do nothing.
00:38:56It says I want to find out.
00:38:57Oh, Finn.
00:39:05Now where do you suppose that came from?
00:39:06Yeah, that's who we all want to know.
00:39:08Well, listen.
00:39:08You can tell the captain.
00:39:09Come along.
00:39:10I didn't have nothing to do with that.
00:39:11Gee, you coppers don't even give a guy a chance to make an honest living.
00:39:14What's the trouble, Skinny?
00:39:16Well, I was working delivering those letters.
00:39:18I didn't know there was any hot dough in them.
00:39:20Working?
00:39:20That's fine.
00:39:22Who are you working for?
00:39:23A fellow by the name of Morrison.
00:39:24He gave the letters to Pat, and Pat gave the rest of the kids at the club.
00:39:27You can ask him.
00:39:34He's a good kid, Joe.
00:39:35Let him go.
00:39:37Okay, kid.
00:39:37Beat it.
00:39:39Thanks.
00:39:42Well, Captain?
00:39:44You were right, Joe.
00:39:47I had to be shown that a man could sink so low that he'd make criminals out of kids he's pretending to help.
00:39:53But he won't do it while I'm around.
00:39:56Follow Skinny.
00:39:57He may be going to pick up some more of that stuff.
00:40:00And by the way, pick up the trailer of any of Pat's kids, you see.
00:40:05Right.
00:40:14It's one o'clock.
00:40:31I got to get back on the beat.
00:40:32Thanks for the swell lunch.
00:40:33I'll have you over at my house for a snack sometime.
00:40:36Snack?
00:40:36You don't sound so easy to please.
00:40:38Well, anyway, I promise not to cry my woes on your shoulder like I have today after we're married.
00:40:42Mmm.
00:40:43Is this a proposal?
00:40:44It is not.
00:40:46Cad?
00:40:46Beat?
00:40:47Someday I'll make you eat those words, gal.
00:40:50After all this mess is cleared up and I'm back on my regular pay.
00:40:53I hope.
00:40:54Oh, Pat, don't worry about it.
00:40:56Captain is bound to learn about his mistakes.
00:40:58He doesn't make mistakes like that.
00:41:00Either that plate was substituted before we got there or while we were there.
00:41:05Molly, try and recall exactly what happened in the office.
00:41:13Well, Danny was alongside of me all the time.
00:41:16Dutch and Skinny could have taken the plate and are afraid to return it.
00:41:19But you suspect Miloway.
00:41:21If he took it, he's mixed up with a gang of counterfeiters.
00:41:24And Knuckles is covering him as he always has.
00:41:26But Miloway was in California when Knuckles was arrested.
00:41:29That's what he says.
00:41:34They met me, Pat.
00:41:39What?
00:41:39Well, as soon as the captain let me go, I got it as fast as I could.
00:41:41I think they're after you.
00:41:42They're after me?
00:41:43What are you talking about?
00:41:44What do you mean?
00:41:44Well, you didn't tell me there was a phony fit in those letters.
00:41:46So I told him I got it from you.
00:41:48And now they're all over town.
00:41:50What does he mean?
00:41:51He means that I'm in a jam for delivering counterfeit $5 bills all over town.
00:41:56Now I know it was Miloway who stole that plate.
00:41:58No one but he could think of a dirty trick like this to play on a bunch of innocent kids.
00:42:01But why would he give the counterfeit away?
00:42:02That's what I've got to find out.
00:42:04Look, Skinny, this is our chance to help Knuckles.
00:42:06You've got to tell me the truth.
00:42:07Why did Miloway come with you to the station?
00:42:09Well, he wasn't a pawn shop.
00:42:11Then he come out and bought Schmidt out for pinching Danny.
00:42:14Then he whispered something to him.
00:42:16He whispered?
00:42:18Yeah.
00:42:19He whispered he could use you kids.
00:42:22That means that Schmidt and Miloway are working together.
00:42:25And Morrison, too.
00:42:26But I don't get it.
00:42:27What's it all about?
00:42:28So you see, I'm the one that's hot now.
00:42:35And it's up to you kids to cover me up for a while.
00:42:37Well, I'll do anything to get that Miloway now.
00:42:39Okay.
00:42:40Go to Eric's and keep broadcasting anything you hear.
00:42:42I'll pick it up some way.
00:42:43Just be careful what you say over the air.
00:42:45Okay.
00:42:46But aren't you going to wait and explain to the captain?
00:42:48And let Miloway lamb out of town leaving me holding the bag?
00:42:52And trying to explain from a jail cell?
00:42:54I am not.
00:42:54I'm going after him.
00:42:56Pat, please be careful.
00:42:57Now, don't worry.
00:42:58Keep a stiff upper lip.
00:43:00No, don't keep a stiff upper lip.
00:43:01Relax and smile.
00:43:03That's better.
00:43:04There's the captain now.
00:43:05Stone him.
00:43:14Where's Pat, Molly?
00:43:15He isn't here.
00:43:16He isn't here.
00:43:24You shouldn't have done that, Molly.
00:43:31I'm going to radio away every car in town to be on the lookout for a disgrace to the force
00:43:36by the name of Pat O'Day.
00:43:38Come along, Molly.
00:43:39All right, kid.
00:44:05Hi.
00:44:06Where are you going?
00:44:06Back to the club to deliver some more circulars?
00:44:08I'm working.
00:44:09Yeah, I know.
00:44:10I just saw Dutch and he said that it was all gone.
00:44:13But you can make a couple of bucks doing a job from me.
00:44:16Oh, you don't have to pay me a mile away.
00:44:18I ain't forgot you sprung me.
00:44:20Ah, forget it, Danny.
00:44:21You know the Warwick Apartments on 126th Street?
00:44:24Yeah, it's about six parts from the subway, Ed.
00:44:26That's right.
00:44:27I want you to run this suitcase up there.

00:44:48Over the maze with that stuff.
00:44:50There's a law across the street.
00:44:51What?
00:44:52Don't worry.
00:44:53He might just be standing there.
00:44:54But I ain't taking no chances.
00:44:56Yeah, but the kid.
00:44:57He's got his badge on.
00:44:59Cops won't stop him.
00:45:00They're tailing him.
00:45:13You can't do anything now.
00:45:15I get to get up the maze.
00:45:16They must have found out about those kids spreading that stuff.
00:45:19Well, why don't they arrest the kid?
00:45:20They want to find out where that suitcase is going.
00:45:24Get a hold of Cornwall and Whisper.
00:45:26Tell him to be ready to leave when I get through.
00:45:28Let's go.
00:45:36Hey!

00:46:35Well, give it to me and scram.
00:46:43All right, May.

00:47:06Not so fast, copper.
00:47:07Shut up.
00:47:08Pick up that stuff.

00:47:12I say pick that up.
00:47:15I'm getting out of here.
00:47:16I don't want no part of this.

00:48:04They'll be out looking for the kid.
00:48:06I was a mile away.
00:48:07Yeah, and someday you won't be.
00:48:09You're too quick on that trigger.
00:48:11Yeah.
00:48:12Yeah.
00:48:12You didn't have to bump that copper any more than the one Knuckles was going to the chair for.
00:48:16Got it.

00:48:19Pat told me there was counterfeiters mixed up in this.

00:50:33Have you heard from Danny and Peewee?
00:50:34No, but Pat told me to come over here and broadcast anything we got.
00:50:37He's going to try to pick up on Eric's radio.
