Chris Stapleton caught up with Billboard's Lyndsey Havens & Tetris Kelly at the ACM Awards 2025.

00:00So nominated for six awards tonight, man, and like you've been doing this for so long.

00:04How does it feel to come and still be getting that recognition?

00:07Well, it still feels good, you know.

00:11When you start getting these things, I don't know, it still feels good.

00:19It still feels good just to be here because there's a lot of faces that I don't see hanging around.

00:24And, you know, I'm a lot older than a lot of these cats, so, you know, it feels good to be hanging out, you know.

00:32Speaking of new faces, last year you shocked us all and performed with Dua Lipa here, someone I didn't expect to see pop up.

00:38I don't think anybody did.

00:40How did it feel to pull that one off?

00:42I felt great.

00:43She was wonderful and just a great creative force and a fantastic partner to work with on making up what that was.

00:52And, you know, I can't say enough nice things about her.

00:55And then tonight to be a part of the Keith Irvin celebration.

00:57What's that like?

00:57Well, I love Keith, and he's not only a great singer and songwriter and player, he's a hell of a nice guy, too, and a wonderful person.

01:06And so to get to honor him in some small way is a real treat for me.

01:12Is there someone else?

01:13Obviously, we know what you're performing tonight.

01:15Is there someone else who's not in the country genre that you would love to sort of bring in?

01:20I don't know how to bring it.

01:22Yeah, sure.

01:22Whoever wants to come, let's go for it.

01:24The door is open.

01:25The door is open, man.

01:27Yeah.

01:27And then I want to say something that Jelly Roll just made me think about.

01:30He was talking about how the guy from Raspel's Plats doesn't do vocal warm-ups.

01:33You have one of the most distinct voices in country music.

01:36How do you prepare before you go on stage?

01:38Oh, I do a vocal warm-up.

01:39I didn't used to.

01:41A vocal warm-up used to mean a shot or something.

01:43But, you know, like I said, I'm not in no spring chicken.

01:46So, you know, I get in there and do some warm-ups.

01:49Nice.

01:50Do you have any other pre- or post-show rituals that have changed over the years?

01:55No, not necessarily.

01:57You're always kind of, you know, doing a show, whether it's this show or just a show of any kind.

02:04You've got to come down a little bit after you get done.

02:06So, you're up.

02:07Might as well hang out with some people.

02:08Yeah.

02:08And what's your closet look like?

02:10How many of these cool-ass hats do you have?

02:12Do they have their own closet?

02:13This is the only one.

02:15Really?

02:15This is it.

02:16We're from shock.

02:17Yes, we are.

02:18This is the only one.

02:19So, when this thing is gone, and it's about to fall apart, you know, when it's gone, it's gone.

02:24It's a good life.

02:25I just need to ask, because we're here celebrating 60 years, when you think back on your career in music,

02:31is there a moment that you're like, that's the one that I will remember forever?

02:35Oh, there's so many of those.

02:37I would be doing so many moments in justice for me if I picked one.

02:46So, I'm proud of all the moments I've gotten to have in music, and I'm proud of the things that I've gotten to do in music,

02:52and to get to just be in music, and get to stay working in music.

02:57I'm proud of that.
