People on the street: Should workers be encouraged to get back into the office?

We went out into Manchester to ask people on the street about working from home and whether there was an argument that work should now move back into the offices.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson-Betz and today I'm going out onto the

00:03streets of Manchester to ask people about office working and that's because working from home has

00:08had a big rise in popularity since the Covid pandemic and while it suits a lot of people

00:12and saves them money in travel, it can mean that some people feel a bit isolated and struggle to

00:16make friendships at work. We want to know if people think that people should be forced to

00:19go into the office a couple of times a week and where the balance should be struck. I think being

00:23in office once a week is all right but I think if it's about job performance I think it's where

00:29ever, wherever someone feels comfortable. I've always preferred it from home, a lot of the

00:32jobs I've done, outside of going out that I had to do some reporting jobs, I think a lot of it has

00:38just been, you can just do it on a laptop and you don't need to go into a big office space to do

00:43that, especially with all the added costs of travel. There's not always that social aspect to it

00:48sometimes, it depends what the, yeah, what work it is. I mean I've done lots of bars and restaurants,

00:54yeah they're very sociable obviously but then there's others like office jobs where it's less so.
