State Department Official Says US Is Involved 'At Multiple Levels' With India And Pakistan Amid Tensions

During a press briefing on Tuesday, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce spoke about ongoing diplomatic conversations between the United States and India and Pakistan amid rising tensions in the Kashmir region.

00:03Yesterday, there was a meeting of United Nations Security Council where all the permanent

00:07and non-permanent members were there, including U.S.

00:10That meeting was on the Pakistan-India tensions, and all the members were of the view that

00:16the only way to resolve Pakistan-India tensions is to resolve the Kashmir issue.

00:21And –

00:22Is – I'm sorry.

00:23To do what?

00:24The Kashmir issue should be –

00:25The Kashmir issue.

00:26Yes, of course.

00:27Through U.N. Security Council resolution, which were adopted and approved.

00:31Like many decades ago, U.S. also approved it.

00:33So just wondering if you want to say about something about any position.

00:37Well, what – you know, there's – as we know, this is a dynamic, serious issue.

00:45So I'll repeat some of what I've said before, but as you know, I'm limited here.

00:51It remains an evolving situation.

00:52We clearly are still closely involved in monitoring.

00:56We continue to urge Pakistan and India to work towards a responsible resolution that maintains

01:02long-term peace and regional stability in South Asia.

01:05We remain in touch with the governments of both countries at multiple levels.

01:11We are not watching from afar in that regard.

01:14We are engaged.

01:16And you know, we're aware of various reports that are happening in the midst of this very

01:22delicate situation.

01:24And of course, we – I think not – without being involved, certainly in the phone calls,

01:31I do have – it's comfortable to have tremendous trust in the President and in the Secretary

01:35of State when it comes to how this is unfolding.
