00:08At sixteen, I began having the same dream.

01:13Behind them, something waits.
01:16On my left, my friends and family sit in complete silence, their faces blank, unmoving.
01:23The rug beneath them is dusted in white powder, like chalk or ash.
01:30None of them look at me.
01:32To my right, only shadows.
01:35A suffocating dark I try not to acknowledge.
01:39But even in my dream, I know something stares back.
01:42The silence is broken by bells.
01:47Small, dainty, like those tied to a child's toy or a ritual garment.
01:53The heavy front doors creak open.
01:55She steps in.
01:57A tall, beautiful woman in an open white robe.
02:00Beneath it, nothing.
02:02Her skin glows unnaturally.
02:04A hood shadows her face.
02:07In her arms, limp as a ragdoll is a corpse.

02:24Then sits across from me, mirroring my position.
02:27Then, she speaks not with her mouth, but with her presence.

02:37She gently lifts my right hand and places it on the corpse's belly, just above the navel.
02:43It feels warm.
02:45Then, I sink in.
02:48My hand melts into the dead flesh as if it were water.
02:52But it's not liquid.
02:54It's resistance.
02:55My hand is swallowed.
02:58And from within the belly, something stirs.
03:01A black substance, gooey, living, slithers up my arm.
03:06It burns and tingles like a thousand ants, biting at once.
03:10I try to pull away, but I'm frozen.
03:12The corpse begins to laugh.
03:14Dry, hollow, echoing laughter.
03:17Its lips part, revealing blackened gums and teeth like shattered obsidian.
03:22The woman across from me begins to cry.
03:24Silent, endless tears.
03:27And I, screaming, am stuck between them.
03:30Half-swallowed by something neither alive nor dead.
03:33The corpse's belly erupts in fire like a furnace tearing through rotted skin.
03:44I see flames licking the walls, illuminating everyone's faces, but I feel nothing.
03:52I don't burn.
03:53When it ends, I remove my arm.
03:56The black goo is now hardened, fused to my skin like volcanic glass.
04:00My hand, up to the elbow, is pitch black.
04:04Carbonized, cursed.
04:06No one moves.
04:08No one speaks.
04:08She reaches beneath her robe and produces two chalazes.
04:14Ornate, golden cups, old and engraved with symbols I can't recognize.
04:20Without hesitation, she cuts her left palm, deep across the lifeline.
04:26Blood streams into one of the cups.
04:28Then, she does the same to me, dragging her finger across my left hand.
04:34I barely feel it.
04:35Blood seeps out, slow, dark, metallic, into the second cup it flows.
04:41We lift our cups simultaneously and drink.
04:44The blood is warm, thick, strangely sweet.
04:48There's no disgust, no hesitation, only a feeling of completion.
04:53Behind her, something steps out of the darkness.
05:00Hooved feet, muscular arms.
05:03A goat-like head crowned with horns wrapped in blackened vines.
05:08It moves closer, looming over me, breath hot like a furnace.
05:13Then it marks me, with a glowing plus sign pressed into my forehead.
05:18My skin sears, but I don't flinch.
05:20You are one of us now, it says, the voice reverberating inside my bones.
05:27The woman bows.
05:29The corpse is gone.
05:30My family and friends dissolve into smoke, and I awaken.
05:35I always wake up the same way, gasping, slick with sweat.
05:41The room smells scorched, like something charred in the night.
05:45I've checked my sheets, my skin, everything.
05:48But once, I looked in the mirror, and I swear for just a second,
05:54I saw the faint outline of a cross on my forehead, glowing like a brand before fading.
06:00Was it a dream?
