00:00I think we've talked a bit about the marijuana growing operation and the boundary and the eastern band of the Cherokee.
00:09Well, I'm trying to actually.
00:12So first off, in full disclosure, the whole the whole patchwork of state laws around legal marijuana, medical marijuana, it's very confusing.
00:23I think it's out of control. And ultimately, I believe the United States, the federal government needs to set boundaries.
00:31It's pretty clear to me that most states are going to legalize it at some level.
00:36So this is not intended to be an anti a message about the future of marijuana, but it's about the present of marijuana.
00:42And in the state of North Carolina, I have the eastern band of the Cherokee who have made it legal to sell and dispense marijuana inside the boundary.
00:53But they're an island around states where everything is illegal.
00:57So one thing I'd like to show you is this is a marijuana growing operation in western North Carolina.
01:03It is outside of the boundary.
01:07And so unless they're using teleportation, it's not clear to me how they can grow it here and sell it in the boundary without having gone through an illy territory that's illegal.
01:22I mean, I just don't get it.
01:24And so we sent a letter last year, March 24th, asking a lot of questions about the legality of it, the sustainability of it, the fact that previously some of them, some of the marijuana had ranges of potency, but there was no consistent testing.
01:41We also have the other challenge that people are buying it there, but unless you're forcing them to empty out their pockets and test the fact they don't have any, they're transporting it across state lines.
01:55And they're getting actually some people are getting arrested.
01:58It's not a sustainable situation.
01:59So more broadly, when you're confirmed, I believe you will be confirmed, can I get your commitment to look through the mechanics of this operation and give me a definitive answers to questions that have been outstanding for a year now?
02:17Yes, sir.
02:19Yeah, my commitment.
02:22And I think the other question, some general questions I have there in the letter, but at what point would moving massive amounts of marijuana through an illegal jurisdiction to another place that admittedly is only a mile or so down the road, but at what point would that constitute trafficking?
02:42You know, when you're talking about volumes, you got any opinion on that?
02:46I would have to consult with the U.S. Attorney's Office and Chief Counsel at DEA if confirmed to see how we could address those issues.
02:55Yes, sir.
02:55Okay.
