Doug LaMalfa Advocates For Right To Vehicle Choice, Cites Lacking EV Infrastructure, Market Demand

In remarks on the House floor on Tuesday, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) called for the right to vehicle choice.

00:00Thank you Mr. Speaker. My home state of California's vehicle sales mandate

00:07removes consumer choice. Americans are not choosing electric vehicles, they

00:12still prefer and rely on internal combustion engine-powered cars. In most

00:17states, EV sales aren't even close to the mandate. For New York, for example, is

00:22supposed to reach 35% electric vehicle sales by 2026, but they're barely at 10

00:28percent today. The Biden-Harris EPA granted these waivers after they lost the

00:32election in a clear attempt to block in California's extreme electric vehicle

00:37requirement in their environmental agenda. These mandates don't just affect

00:42California, other states copy as well. They impact every state by raising vehicle

00:46prices and limiting what Americans can buy. The policy threatens jobs across this

00:51country and forces companies to spend more to replace their fleets. Our electric

00:56grid cannot handle the surge in demand for mass EV adoption. Neighborhoods, the

01:01three or more houses are in the neighborhood, have these electric vehicle

01:05chargers and they have to replace the wires and the transformers on those poles

01:08in that neighborhood. So the infrastructure is not there, the desire by the market

01:12isn't there, yet government is trying to force this mandate on people. H.J. 88
