00:00Because Harry has been on the airwaves. Prince Harry has made several incredibly newsworthy and remarkable interventions.
00:11First of all, he's sort of putting the blame on the strain of the relationship on the king.
00:17He says, my father won't speak to me, which, I mean, is a, I mean, talk about getting it slightly wrong.
00:25Well, the reason the king doesn't speak to Harry is because he won't speak to him, is he can't speak to him.
00:31Because Harry is suing the king's ministers in the king's courts.
00:36And the king is what they call the fountain of justice. He's the head of the judiciary.
00:41If Harry had a conversation with him about his case, about his security, and now we know that Harry does have a tendency to immediately repeat conversations,
00:50whether in TV interviews or in books or in documentaries, that would completely undermine the case.
00:56I mean, it's what's called legal jeopardy.
00:59When you've got the king's son suing the government, he's said he's now no longer going to pursue it through the courts.
01:05He's talking about an establishment stitch-up, but he's still lobbying the Home Secretary to get her on site.
01:11The king just can't go anywhere near this.
01:13I mean, this is sort of toxic territory for a constitutional monarchy who's head of the judiciary.
01:18So he can't talk to his son.
01:19Even now that the legal side of things has wrapped up, I mean, does that open a door?
01:25Well, has it wrapped up? Because he says he's writing to the Home Secretary.
01:28He wants the government to reopen this.
01:31The time in the courts has wrapped up, which would be the biggest point of view.
01:34Well, we think it has.
01:36I mean, it's hard to tell because, I mean, in the earlier part of his interview, he talked about how,
01:42I realise I'm not going to get anywhere through the courts.
01:45I wish someone had told me that.
01:46Well, I mean, clearly his lawyers would have told him that.
01:48He's effectively sort of thrown his lawyers under the bus saying, well, he didn't tell me I might lose.
01:52So I think we still don't really know where this is going.
01:56But quite apart from the legal angle, and that is the hard constitutional position when it comes to relations between Harry and his father,
02:05who, by the way, of course would love a reconciliation with his son.
02:08I mean, it goes without saying.
02:09But aside from that, you've got the trust issue.
02:13Any conversation could be a second edition of a book.
02:16Well, not only that, but, I mean, is it going to be an accurate reflection of a conversation?
02:22Because, I mean, Harry's book, which is an extraordinary memoir.
02:24I mean, it's a hell of a read.
02:25It's the most extraordinary memoir I've ever read, I think.
02:29But also within it, it's got conversations completely muddled up, events that happened that didn't happen.
02:37I mean, so there is this issue.
02:40A thrilling work of fiction, I think, is what I want to describe it.
02:41I think if Harry could say, yes.
02:43Well, I mean, to be fair to you, I mean, it's very moving.
02:46It's very powerful in parts.
02:48You know, Harry suffered a great deal.
02:49There's no question about that.
02:51But when you have things like where he paints this picture of how when the Queen Mother dies, he's told this sad news by a flunky and he's alone at school and it's all rather miserable.
03:01You think, no, you were with your father on a skiing holiday in Switzerland.
03:05I mean, it's completely, completely wrong.
03:08Interesting.
03:08I think if you can just lose, you know, drop all the litigation, you know, get through that stuff and stop regaling the rest of us and fascinated, though we all are, obviously, with what's going on between the family, then I think you can start to rebuild some sort of bridge.
03:29Now, one final point, of course, is some extraordinary words that I think must have taken a lot of people aback when they heard it, which was Prince Harry said he wasn't sure how much time his father had left.
03:45I mean, what a thing to say.
03:46Yeah, I think that was remarkably, well, I just, like so much when Harry does his interviews, I just don't think it's thought through.
03:55I mean, you know, clearly there hasn't been a great deal of communication, but I think just to sort of throw that out there, yes, I mean, people will think, oh, golly, that's insensitive.
04:06I just think it's just rather, he's just been all prepared.
04:10I mean, you could tell he was very emotional in that interview.
04:12There was a lot of, this was initially, it sort of starts out as quite a legalistic interview.
04:18It's all about a sort of court ruling and then suddenly it's sort of conflated with lots of other issues.
04:21So, yeah, I just, I think looking back on the interview, I suspect that that was something he wishes he had not said.
