00:00I think we we think reform done very well in these elections we knew these
00:03were going to be difficult elections for us we were coming off a major high it's
00:07just one year after we got a terrible drubbing in the general election perhaps
00:11we underestimated what a mess the new Labour government would make how
00:14quickly it would lose the support of the public and that's reinforced the surge
00:18towards reform reform now have the chance at a local level not to talk
00:22about slogans but to actually try and work out what their policies are and
00:26they'll find perhaps that is harder going the mere slogans that they put out so
00:31far it was a very very disappointing night for us across the country and
00:34looking for small shards of light is very very difficult I'm perhaps because I
00:39live in Bedfordshire I focus on Cambridge of course we gained the mayoralty off
00:42Paul Brissett so he worked so so hard to make that success happen but across the
00:47country we've lost very good councillors leaders in many councils lost their seats
00:51as well it was a very difficult night for us and that's the message for that is
00:55the Conservative Party still has work to do to rebuild the trust of the British
00:59public as we gear up for future elections
