00:00Hi, I'm Mark and I'm a vicar in the Church of England in Middlesbrough.
00:10The Bible tells us that the night Jesus was arrested, before he was executed the next day,
00:14he was deserted and left alone by his friends.
00:17Among those friends was Peter, someone who could claim to be Jesus' closest and dearest friend.
00:21And yet in the 24 hours before the crucifixion, he completely betrayed Jesus.
00:26You have to wonder how Peter would have felt when he saw Jesus after his resurrection.
00:31Afraid? Ashamed? Worry about what Jesus would say?
00:35If someone had betrayed me that badly, I would at least expect to hold it over them for a while.
00:39That's the kind of thing you could milk for years.
00:41But there's nothing like that from Jesus.
00:44The Bible tells us that Jesus' first words to his friends weren't words of condemnation or judgment.
00:49It wasn't a ticking off or a laying of the guilt.
00:52His words were, peace be with you.
00:54He was telling them that whatever they had done, he had come to make it right and to make peace with them.
00:59This is at the heart of the Easter message.
01:02Easter is a celebration of Jesus' new life, but also his promise to others of a new life.
01:07A new start for everyone, whatever they passed.
