During his press briefing on Thursday, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) answered questions about his support to ban lawmakers' stock trading.

00:00Leader Jeffries, you recently came out and endorsed legislation to ban lawmakers from trading individual stocks.

00:07This idea has been out there for years. I'm wondering why you decided to come out in favor of it now,

00:12and since you're effectively the only leader of either party endorsing the ban,

00:17have you talked to your counterparts and leadership about moving forward with this?

00:21I have not had a conversation with my counterparts and leadership on this,

00:24but it is something that I've long supported, including previously as House Democratic leader

00:29and prior to that as chair of the House Democratic caucus.

00:32So this has been a consistent position of mine for years, and I support the efforts led by Representative Ocasio-Cortez,

00:41Seth Magaziner, and others in the House Democratic caucus to try to get this done.
